While the question of Fenris' popularity is still fresh, I'll post what I personally found attractive about him.

Yes, the looks are part of that. I thought he had a good piece of concept art, and two awesome screenshots. But what initially hooked me was not ZOMGHAWT (because let's face it, pretty much every character revealed has been good looking) or ZOMGELF - I've seen a few too many pretty elves before to be attracted to every one that floats onto my computer screen - it was those damn lyrium markings.

I wanted to know what the hell they were. Once I found out, I wanted to know exactly how he got them - when he got them, how it was done, why it was done, if he even remembers it happening. I wanted - and still want - to know what exactly he's used as a weapon for. As someone with a moderate interest in the human (elven?) psyche, I want to know how his mind works after all that. Also, his little character blurb on the DA2 site is one of the shorter ones, and reveals little about his actual personality traits compared to the others. We haven't heard his voice yet, either, so I've been pondering about that. I also have no desire to play a Hawke that would 'fix' him as a person, though I understand why some would.

His story's just interesting to me, and it would be whether he was human or dwarven, too. It's that interest, mixed with some pixel-physical attractiveness, that's made me a fan.

This.
This is precisely what attracted me to this character more than the others.
All of what Poison stated.
(Though I do love elves.)

I think he caught word of his popularity among us fangirls, and Aveline is enforcing a bit of tough love.

Fenris: I can't be a LI. They'll rip me apart!

Aveline: It is your destiny, Fenris...you must

XDDD maybe.. But he doesn't want to eat his veggies! he has batteplans to discuss!

Fenris: Not now, women! There are forces marching to destroy us tomorrow!

Aveline: All the more reason to eat it! Build up your strength!

Fenris: No! They taste like dirt!

Aveline: And how do you know what dirt tastes like?

Fenris: I was curious.. shut up!

 *Just caught up*

Wow... I thought I didn't have a life...

...

*Sniff* I wish I could be here all day too!

And... sexy slow-mo...

Madame Crimsynn: Approves (+100)

And this is definitely not a prompt response, just a dialogue I imagined from a joke/prank that my friend keeps doing to basically anyone that will stand still long enough for her to do it:

Fem!Hawke, Fenris, Isabela and Carver are walking back to Kirkwall

Hawke: Hey, Fenris.

Fenris: (annoyed) Yes, Hawke?

Hawke: I need your help.

Fenris: (Sighs) Shouldn't we be focusing on getting back?

Hawke: Oh, it's nothing big, but I need your help practicing something.

Fenris: Fine.

(Hawke gets several steps ahead and starts walking backwards)

Hawke: OK, so when I hold up my left hand (holds up just her left hand), say "Calm down". When I hold up my right hand (holds up just her right hand), say "Take a deep breath". And when I hold up both hands ( she holds up both hands), say "Come with me".

Fenris: Alright.

Hawke: (Acting scared and hysterical) OH MAKER! THE BUILDING'S GOING TO COLLAPSE! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE! (holds up just her left hand)

Fenris: (slightly irritated) Calm down.

Hawke: (Still acting scared and hysterical) HOW CAN YOU TELL ME TO CALM DOWN?! THE FLOOR IS GOING TO FALL OUT FROM BENEATH US! (holds up just her right hand)

Fenris: Take a deep breath.

Hawke: (in a tiny, scared voice) I can't die like this Fenris; I'm still a virgin... (she grins evilly and holds up both hands)

(Isabela starts laughing; Carver looks shocked, and is about to say something when Isabela covers his mouth)

Fenris: (highly confused) Come with... me...? Wait a minute...

Not surprising I think alot of us  are attracted to his mystery , the fact that he's somewhat attractive is just an added bonus and he just so happens to be an elf. Not personally my deciding factor when I like a character but still I think this whole "Oh he's an elf that's why he's popular" thing is stretching it a bit.  The only reason Fenris and Merril have the popular threads atm is because we know next to nothing about them, especially Merril so people are going to be more inclined to inquire, speculate, fangirl etc about them then say Varric or Isabella since we kinda know the gist of their characters already. I think Sebastian's reception would've been alot stronger if his summary wasn't basically  "Oh you killed my family now I'm gonna take my revenge" . There may be more to him then that sure but based off that alone we've seen it already in the Cousland storyline and Nathaniel's to an extent.

Oh, hey, cool! ;)

I seriously hope there is no achievement for that thing. It's too...weird...

*OHOOOO! YOU LAID THE ELF! CONGRATS! That's bigger than killing the boss.*

I agree my butt off on this point. What I would really hope for is that they have an achievement for finishing the game with a certain romance! That's a far more impressive achievement than just boinking somebody.

There should also be an achievement for staying single through a playthrough. That would be something I'd probably never be able to do, romance junkie that I am.

Alright Fenris, we've gotten Varric his quiver on enchanted bolts,

on your head?

Fenris: It's a Fez. I wear a Fez now. Fezes are cool.

Hawke: (sighs) I thought that we left all of those silly hats back in Ferelden.

I forgot to say earlier how much I love this one!

I felt strangely attracted to
Zevran's personality... that almost made me think i'm bisexual, but I've
never been attracted to any man. We're talking about being attracted to
video game characters -_-

So his past appeals to the "fixer" in you women huh? I wonder if him being Elven has anything to do with it.

Women & girls, what do you think of the attractiveness of MaleHawke?

I know exactly how you feel! I mean, Silk Fox in Jade Empire... it made me feel like, "That would be so awesome, to find someone and have a relationship like that... it's so cool and so romantic."

I mean, when you love a personality, and you think the appearance attached to it is so gorgeous, and you feel really in sync with them, it seems like it would be a short step to more. The crappy part is, IRL, unless you're bi and just never knew before, in many cases you come to realize that when it comes down to it, you can't just wish yourself into wanting to be romantic with someone who doesn't fit you that way. Though I considered the possibility that I was bi, I came to realize that my complete lack of fantasies about women probably meant it just wouldn't work. I mean, I wonder sometimes if it's that way for lesbians/gay guys--just that feeling of, "as awesome as I think that person is, trying to do them in real life rather than in theory would be like trying to do my sibling!" Plus, I just like male equipment too much, and going without that would be like swearing to never play a video game again. It just ain't gonna happen no matter how much I might try.

So for me, there's a lot of respect and interest, but no actual curiosity to try things out with another girl myself (although I do wonder sometimes about how other orientations do it, just because I'm curious open-minded *grr, stupid honest streak* pervy by nature.) And yet it does sort of fascinate me, the way that people fall in love and feel attracted and have sex. Though the differences are small in some ways, there are differences, and those intrigue me no end. They're beautiful to me. Love, peace, solace, and passion between people, whether stemming from friendship or romance... those things and the details attached to them are beautiful. Everyone has their own personal love story to find; dorky as it sounds, it's how I feel. And all of them are amazing.

So anyway, I understand your feeling, absolutely. I can appreciate the appeal, and I actually know a straight guy who found himself tickled pink by Zevran. And I don't think that's a bad thing--on the contrary, the world needs more people who are secure in who they are and can come to understand others' points of view. So in other words, I think it's very cool of you to admit that. It's hard thing to do sometimes, for fear of being teased or misunderstood, more so if you're male than female. Kudos. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

It's cool at least that games like this allow a person to explore those other points of view. When you strip away all the actual physical elements, it's so much easier to realize that love is simply love. That much is somehow clearer in a game, assuming the relationship is well-written.

As to Garrett Hawke--hmm. Actual!GH is kinda meh. Fun, interesting but not hot. Trailer!GH, however, is pure sex. I love what they did with his face and the shape of his beard there.

Blacklash93 wrote...

Does Fenris hate eye contact or something? If he's so furious you think he would stare Aveline down.

Yeah, that's why I think that he's not actually angry with Aveline herself. He's angry at the realities of the situation. If he were pissed at her, if she'd done something personal, he'd be glaring. He's just frustrated, knows it's not her fault, wants things to be different than they are, so he pounds the table out of frustration, and his anger isn't directed at her personally. That's my impression.

Anarya wrote...

And regarding Garrett Hawke's
attractiveness....rawr. I'm almost sad he's so attractive because he's
the PC. I'd romance the hell out of that if he was a companion. Plus,
dat voice. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/heart.png[/smilie]
He needs to trim up that beard of his though, and his appearance in the
CGI trailer I find more attractive than his in-game model. But yum all
the same.

*lol* So true. It's like that signature banner: "HAWKE FOR LI!<3...OH, WAIT..."

I'm gonna give my Garrett Hawke to Aveline and one of my Lady Hawkes to Isabela. I want him with a nice, strong, sensitive woman, and I want my own female butt-kicker to be tempted by that smoky mocha piratess. *notices she says that far too often, but it's just fun to say*
