Doesn't Tevinterians speak the same language as the rest of Thedas now? Or do they just have their own swears?

The Imperium has its own language, just as Orlais does, even if most people speak the common tongue as well. Only in rural areas might you find people who don't.

Will we be hearing examples of that in game like with Sten's language or will we be hearing just the common tongue for the most part?

Not what I expected, but thanks for answering. ^^

I could provide specifics, but knowing that Fenris occasionally mutters things like "Fenedhis!" during combat isn't particularly illuminating stuff.

New questions; Does Fenris have a, I don't know how to call it, a 'signature weapon' like Varric (Bianca) or is it just some random weapon?

He hasn't given a name to it, if that's what you mean.

And something that's maybe Fenris related, in the Sebastian thread one of the devs spoke about 'flirt lines', now I was wondering do the non-romancable characters also have flirt-lines -> can you flirt with everyone and only the romancable npc's will respond to it?

You can flirt if we wrote lines allowing you to flirt. That doesn't necessarily lead to a romance.

I've checked the Varric thread and a while ago some of Varric's batlle cries were revealed (by sir Gaider himself), so is it okay for me to ask for some Fenris battle cries now?

Fenris primarily swears in Tevinter, but occasionally will break into meditation-like comments on the fight. He's one of the few soundsets that never actually yells during combat.

Edit: I'm sorry for asking all these questions, but I'm afraid that if I don't ask them now I will forget or they will be drowned under a pile of new posts. ^^'

It would make sense. May be like when you can flirt with Tegan in DA:O.

BTW: Thank you David ^-^ Any info makes us cry tears of joy.

Is the common tongue English due to Andraste talking it (and the chant being in English)?

No, he speaks in actual Tevinter-- normally only when he's upset, or swearing, but you'll definitely hear it.

I am now insanely curious as to what accent the people of Tevinter (Tevinterians? I know there's a name for them somewhere) have. For reference, I was only madly curious an hour ago.

Heh, no. The common tongue actually comes from the dwarves. They introduced trade and currency to humanity.

Natalie Dormer! Her performance in 'TheTudors' was excellent!

She was rather good! It isn't every day someone makes me like Anne Boleyn. :) She's also the physical inspiration behind my potentially Fenmancing mage lady that I mentioned. It's why I chose to have her as my profile picture.

Omg, I love Natalie Dormer so much. =] My favorite actress evah. (I seriously want her to be Catwoman in the next Batman flick :D)

Iiiinteresting...
Somehow this makes me think that Fenris' accent isn't going to be an English speaking one, as in Irish or Welsh or whatever.

Is the common tongue is the king's tongue mentioned in The Stolen Throne? I remember when Maric met the Legion of the Dead, he acted as if Dwarves normally wouldn't be able to understand the king's tongue.

If Tevinter is loosely based on the Byzantine empire, is the language based on Latin, or Greek, or something else? I would laugh so hard if it was Latin, then I might be able to figure out what Fenris says.

Then why don't humans speak the old dwarven language? Did they invent a new language to trade with humans?

No, they invented a new language to trade with each other. There isn't any one "dwarven" language, though humans like to think of it that way because of the old kingdoms only Orzammar is left.

my guess is that it's probably because humans integrated that language into their own like how french, portuguese and spanish derive from latin.

No idea where I was going with this question, desperate attempt to get more information I think. xD

The Tevinter language... what kind of accent is that and if you can't answer that, does Fenris speak with that accent or does he just know the language?

Really? I've always wanted that option. I mean, who doesn't play at least one completely skank character? Heathens, that's who.

Anyhow, my warrior Hawke will be best buddies (with benefits!) with Isabela, if possible, flirt with every available species and gender. With his swaggering beard doing most of the work.

Wiki offers this:

"Arcanum, the official language of the Imperium, was designed to be a potential distant ancestor to English."

if i recall right it's not really based on any real language though, but "invented" by a specialist along with few others.
