XD Oh that reminds me, I wrote something in the boredom of my waking life



The fight had been raging for a few minutes now, the sharp sound of metal on metal ringing harshly in the open chamber. The quest had seemed simple, collect a keepsake from a scouting party lost in a Thaig and return it to the woman mourning the passing of her husband. However things were rarely simple. Especially for the ragtag group that had so recently come together.

“What’s the matter elf? Sword too heavy?!” Varric shouted from his perch on a protruding rock, shooting a bolt into the chest of a tainted warrior. Smirking in triumph the dwarf ran his fingers across Bianca’s smooth handle in pride as he watched the slender elf bury the large blade into an unsuspecting hurlock’s side.

Grunting out a laugh, Fenris’ lips curled into a smirk. “What’s the matter dwarf? Too short to aim properly from the ground?” He retorted swinging his sword in an arc beheading a small cluster of darkspawn.

Letting out an audacious laugh the merchant prince hopped down from his vantage point and released an onslaught of charmed bolts that seared the darkspawn’s flesh upon contact. Eye’s narrowing in concentration Varric felled another monster, exclaiming his prowess for all to hear.

“18!” He bellowed leaping from an archer’s line of fire.

“20!” Fenris replied smirk widening as the dwarf’s face darkened. The two had generally been respectful of each other, but in the wake of battle all formalities were tossed aside. It seemed the age old rivalry between the two races was a hard habit to break. Panting slightly from exertion the males exchanged a heated glance before eyeing an approaching group of darkspawn. Whoever could slay the most would be the victor.

Fenris leapt forward, Varric loaded another bolt; both anticipating their imminent victory. Only to be knocked back by a blast of hot air. Peering through their now tussled hair at the raging fire that had engulfed the tainted creatures the males exchanged a knowing look. Turning to face their mage companion they watched as Hawke twirled her staff expertly before striking a triumphant pose.

“It’s hard to tell from the blackened mess, but I think that constitutes as roughly 30.” She grinned striding between her friends towards the ominous Thaig, a bounce in her step from the sweet victory.

Sharing another glance the two males seemed; for once, in complete agreement with each other. “It doesn’t count if you’re a mage.”



...I might have been inspired by a scene from one of the LotR movies... XD

Lol, I was wondering why that vibe going on there felt so familiar, I wonder if the dwarven/elven rivalry thing will be played up this time, of if Fenris and Varric will just break the forth wall and go "lol rivalry" like Og and Zev did.



Also I couldn't help but picture Fenris doing a Limit Break there sorry XD I'm so both into Western RPG's and Japanese RPG's I wish sometimes they would merge together and make some awesome sauce baby

Kind of ironic how the dwarf is the archer and the elf is the two-hander. lol
I can see Fenris/Varric being a rivalry path with each other. Healthy competition.
Thank you for posting it was very nice to read. ^-^

And relating to the Fen being exclusively male Li... I'll just play Male Hawke first lol. I will probably have at least 3 playthroughs. Each class, and each tone. Switching between male and female.

Oghren would probablly have an issue with Varric not having a huge dwarf beard. Thinking maybe he left his dwarf side behind in favor for a more "human one".

True thing...i don't think i saw a dwarf without a beard in Orzammar whereas outside there were some. Sandal for example.

 I'm glad they did Varric like this, without a beard. That' a huge step up from DAO, where almost all dwarf without a huge beard to cover their face were ugly.

Maybe he speaks like Sten with only "No" and "Yes". Considering he was a slave i am sure he just had to look down, shut up and work. Maybe that's why he doesn't look Aveline in the eyes. I would die if he would be like Sten! I couldn't talk to him like 3 playthroughs cause i was trying to be nice (and i was a fem).

Yanno, as much as I find that gif the DA version of hip-notoad (cwutididthar?), it bothers me that his hair doesn't move in it. Especially since his hair is kind of long and could flip angrily with his table slam. Besides the lack of movement in that particular scene, though, I like most of the hair models we've seen so far, they've really made improvements to it. Not to mention I just saw this-

Does he look her in the eyes during the head turn where the camera is pointed at Ave? It's impossible to tell but I got the impression he was glaring up at her. :/

But I doubt David would write a character who had little content, so if that was true there would probably be a lot more depth after you "broke through". But you do have a good point with the slave attitude thing,

The dwarf-model does not mirror him perfectly.

He'd be a ball of furious hair without armor on.

He also mentions that there are 36 styles for male Hawke, 17 beard options and 22 eye colours.
