There is an unbelievable amount of creepy in a lover-turned-torturer dynamic. Creepy can be good, but that scenario would also be complicated, and I would prefer if every interaction with him didn't revolve around this pile of physical and emotional trauma. I would not like the finite little box of interaction with this guy to consist of sorting through his problems.
I dunno, I think it's helpful to temper your hypotheticals by guesstimating how much dialogue a problem would actually require to resolve. Simply "slave to a jerk with lyrium to spare" with a side of morally gray reasoning for the procedure has enough potential for psychologically disturbing body horor awesome without adding another layer to the issue that would suck up Fenris time.
I know it's wild mass guessing mode in here but...
No I see what you mean, it is after all just food for thought I wouldn't want the violin and piano to start playing either everytime I engaged with Fenris it'd be too much like MGS2 and having to hear Rose's BS about what day tommorow was when I just wanted to friggin save my game.

Try watch the movie 'District 9'. The whole movie is in SA accent.
-NUUUUUU. Wikus in District 9 had an exaggerated Afrikaans SA accent. The majority of our English SA accents sound more like this guy's, unfortunately - not very exotic. The accent of that Hakeem actor is a mild Zulu one.
*ahem* yes, anyway.
If Fenris did have a more intimate relationship with his magister, that'd be a different ball game entirely. It could be a very interesting sort of creepy, but I think it might be a bit too creepy for a Bioware game. I think. They've proved me wrong before.
Anyway, no matter what the situation was with the magister, I'm sure he will have healed a bit within ten years. We also don't know how long he's already been escaped before Hawke meets him, so I doubt every conversation we had with him would involve a violin and a piano.
I also count myself in the boat of those who don't want to 'fix' him. Some advice and support is good - every relationship needs that, history as a slave regardless - but I'm for Hawke showing him that he has the inner strength to heal himself, instead of doing it for him, if it comes to that.

I get your meaning, but I 'd like him to be bisexual. but rather than have it shoved down your throat as in Zevran's case, I'd make it only come up if your male character flirts with him. That way straight male characters dont go "okay...a leather-bound elf guy is flirting with me" as with Zev. hahaha

"It's obviously not over between you and Hawke."
"*table slam* It has to be!"
Though that's doubtful, maybe he resists getting close to Hawke, but can't help wanting to, constantly, and then she tries to get him to stop hurting her by pushing her away (whereas, if Hawke is male, it could even be the same thing in reverse, which would be interesting--I mean, they both seem the type to resist love somehow. Aveline for obvious reasons; Fenris for guessable but unknown ones.) Maybe they understand each other instinctively for that, but whichever one is actually feeling it at the time is really testy about it.
I would love Aveline even more if she had your back like that.

Wow,
you guys are just as bad as me! I spend FOREVER trying to make my
character look how I want her.....which is usually to look like me, so
then I feel I am actually in the game. I've always been hindered in Mass
Effect and DA:O (lack of rounded chin options that don't look squared, a
nose that doesn't curve up or down and has a rounded tip, curly hair
that doesn't look scraggly, darkish brown hair that has twinges of red
in the sunlight, moles, etc.)
Yeah,
I'm the same way maybe it's a chick thing lol. I would hate being
satisfied with my character's face in the CC screen then in-game with
different lighting and stuff they looked stupid , Oblivion was pretty
bad about that too, and boy were those models EVER ugly *shudder* hope
Skyrim fixes that. As for DA2 I hear there's a pre-order bonus that
comes with a mirror or something where you can change your character's
appearance after the CC screen? If that's the case consider me extra
happy, I await to make my chocolate Hawkette, it'll also be nice that my
family will be black too! Human Noble story I'm lookin at you [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie].
Granted I have no problem playing a Caucasian character (that's just
kinda how things are I guess) I'm just glad I have the option,
especially on the black female thing since you don't see many in
videogames, especially RPG's.
I am right there with you--both of you! I take a ridiculous amount of time, and I try to make my first character look like me to increase the immersion on the first playthrough, and the closer I can get to myself the happier I am. (Except in KotoR 2; I chose the dirty-blond one with the ponytail and the locks tucked behind her ears because I just really liked her coloring and facial features.) But for DA2, I'm all the more keen on trying to match my own facial features this time... I mean, I always dreamed of having brothers and sisters and my mom's pregnancies all failed except for mine, so that's something very close to my heart. I think seeing a number of characters, relatives, that sorta look like me will be really interesting and all the more involving.
Well, that's the first run; on later playthroughs I always get more adventurous (I didn't do this in DAO precisely because of the terrible way they did skin tones; the darker ones should've looked gorgeous but they looked pretty muddy, more like you had a dirty face than actual dark skin, and of course your family wouldn't look like you, which sucked for Cousland, Aeducan, Tabris, and even Brosca--though less so because your mom was a mean drunken hobag. 4 out of 6 Origins had family members who were honkies! Not exactly a racially-friendly environment.)
In Mass Effect I played a blue-eyed, black-haired, brown-skinned aggressive Vanguard Renegon-with-heart who romanced Liara and punched anybody she thought was deserved it without much thought for consequences, and a red-haired Engineer dude who was a real boy scout and followed all the rules--he was actually a bit too much of a bleeding heart and occasionally susceptible to being duped. Both of those are "opposites" of me in a number of ways; I like contrast in that regard. (I'm a Paragade of sorts.) So I am looking forward to DA2's revamped relative system--I can finally make characters of other races without going, "Yeesh, Mom, who did you sleep with?" *lol* And I love the Mirror of Transformation thing! I had the same experience with lighting in the CC not showing how my character actually looked, especially with makeup and eye color, so it'll be nice to not have to utter more sighs of frustration and start an entire intro all over again after playing!
trickybunny wrote...
You know I'm good so long as it's deep..I just hope it's deep... not Barry White deep, but anti-hero deep
You know, interestingly enough, I was just studying this sort of thing for my Conversational Techniques exam--a slightly deeper than average voice is perceived as reflecting certain qualities in a person. If a man or woman has a somewhat deep voice for their gender in a work situation, for instance, they're seen as being more dominant and more honest. If it's a situation between two people, on the other hand, then a spontaneous deepening of the voice is seen as reflecting sexual arousal/attraction. So it makes sense that you'd be attracted to that; I am, too.
A high-pitched squeaky voice can be seen as non-threatening and cute, which might be good for some characters, but not for a character like Fenris. For a love interest, a somewhat deeper voice will go over better due to the way people instinctively read vocal tones and pitch.

I THOUGHT YOU WERE BASHFUL ALISTAAAAIR!!"
*lmao* That was exactly my reaction. Just like, "Isn't this a little--kinky? Like, letting the WHOLE CAMP hear--and WATCH--you lose your virginity? Come on!"

I would like to depict my feelings on this rather risque idea in the form of a progression of smilies:

I do, but if I was going to wish for a True Blood actor to VO a character it would definitely be Allan Hyde.
David Gaider specifically requested the dude, you know? I can't think he would mislead us that heavily, so it's almost definitely not Aleksander Skarsgaard. Stop torturing yourself with what will never be! Let it go, sister. Let it go.
Also, Godric was frickin' awesome. If it's Allan Hyde, I certainly wouldn't mind. And it is a slight accent, after all. I admit, though, despite how easy it is for me to imagine a Scandinavian accent for the Tevinter guys, I have trouble imagining Fenris sounding like that from his look.

very feeling that was felt while I waited for Dragon Age: Origins to

I always find myself on the forums more than usual, waiting some
information to fly in here on a rainbow of happiness. Only....the info
gets me hyped up and excited, making it even more agonizingly painful to wait.....
*hugs* I know what you mean... only studying for exams keeps me from doing the same, which I did for DAO as well. I actually feel almost lucky to have exams now--and then coming back here actually feels like stress relief! It's weird. Total opposite of last time.
Lucy_Glitter wrote...
things about lyrium and bodily fluids.
Yeah, I remember that whole thing. It wasn't the content that bothered me, personally--I used to work with women who cussed like sailors and they liked raunchy talk, and I'm not exactly a pure and squeaky-clean-minded type myself, so I don't mind it. Just, DG said that his characters are like his children, so talking about magical man-parts and the magical fluids that could potentially issue from them--however magical they might in fact be--just struck me as tasteless, like if my boyfriend said stuff to my dad about what we do in private. And I think that's why people reacted as they did, just knowing we get visits from him and not wanting to creep him out because we love him so much. So I think the people who said the sort of icky stuff got more of a reaction out of the rest of us than they expected, which normally might not've happened.
I guess the thing we can all learn from that minor event is that it's just good to keep our talk here on the forums respectful of the fact that we're discussing Fenris in front of his "parent." He's like our boyfriend's father in this instance.

Yeah, seriously! Especially since it was easy to kill the guy--my dad didn't even know Zevran could be a party member, so his response in-character was always to murder Zevran.
I think the average straight guy's attitude towards gay male LIs would be, basically, "I don't care as long as I don't have to worry about dropping the soap during bathtime." A nervous straight guy in particular would feel that way. If on the other hand you receive the <3 icon here and there, and don't have to use it but can if you want to, I can't imagine very many people minding. No reasonable people, anyway.
And if you grow to like a character, well... maybe over time loving a male LI as a bro would convince some guys to try him out romantically. It could even open minds.

Oh boy, now I remember that one quest from KOTOR...
Magister: Hello Champion, I seem to have a small problem that I need help with.
Hawke: What seems to be the problem?
Magister: My...companion seems to have wandered off.
Hawke: What does he look like?
Magister: About this tall (gestures with hand) white hair, elven.
Hawke: Your companion is an elf.
Magister: Yes and he's the most important thing to me in the world.
Varric: That's a little creepy. This woman really seems to be missing her elf.
Hawke: Let me see what I can do.
(Minutes later Hawke comes back with a rather dejected looking Fenris)
Hawke: There you go miss, your lost friend.
Magister: Oh thank you Champion. Come on Fenris we have some business to attend to.
Fenris: (Deadpan) Please kill me.

I really hope all the LI's will be confirmed on Valentine's day, they did promise us that once and then announced the delay of DA:O on Valentine's day instead
Short about the character creator: Like some of you guys I also use hours after hours creating a character, but I never make her look like me. Guess I can't see myself in a fantasy setting..

My dad's not prejudiced, really not, but I suspect he wouldn't be amused. He doesn't like people who try to kill him, all the more so if they go into sexual harrassment mode not long afterwards, and then get pissed if you tell them to stop. I mean, I love Zev, don't get me wrong, but there were aspects of him where I really had to suspend what I would normally do in a case like that and just say, "Hey, he's a companion, if I want to see the content I have to let him live, and just pretend my character going to sleep in the same camp with him rather than having a guard on him at all times makes any sense whatsoever." Or like, "This particular Warden is an outstanding judge of character and just knows that he won't try to murder her again because she is a natural, who read his facial tics just like Paul Ekman would do." So I think a bit of subtlety and non-murder-you-ishness is probably a good idea for the future.
I don't know, but I really don't get a 'bi' vibe from Fenris. I really think that if he is a LI, he will be for FemHawke only, but that's just me. Might be because Gaider said he was nothing like Zevran so I'm just jumping to conclusions (that's what a lot of us always do when Gaider says someting). :innocent:

Alright, only a page to catch up on. I got this
OOH! I didn't even think of a Valentine's Day LI confirmation tactic
I'm not really so so concerned whether Fenris is bi/straight...as long as he IS capable of carrying on a relationship with my Hawekette. I mean, I just look at it as, if I dont want to see him as a bisexual character...I simply just wont pursue him if/when I make a male character. So in that respect, I agree that I dont want another Zevran, hitting on anything with two legs and a face (I also, love Zev in that way, just dont want to see that on my Wiggilicious Fenris) Even with Leliana (also, love love love her) it always felt creepy whenever she started puttin the moves on my female warden. If a romance is to be pursued, straight or bi, I really hope it'll be initiated only through deciding if Hawke is going to flirt with said character.
Whew...alright, time for breakfast
Edit: Just re-read that. Not that I think bi/lesbian relationships are in any way creepy, I just wasn't feeling it with my straight female warden, and Leliana getting mad that I decided to *spoiler* marry her off to Alistair. Just wanted to clear that up

Yeah, I should have clarified - he may not be exaggerating his own voice, but it is rather heavy compared to the average Afrikaans accent you'll encounter in Joburg.
Also, I read that he was using his public speaking voice which sounds a bit more formal, but the accent itself isn't changed much, it's what your average English-speaking South African sounds like - I listen to those accents every day.

Firstly, yay, fellow South African in the mix.
Secondly, what a lot of people don't seem to get is that there are a variety of different accents in South Africa. Not all of us sound like Wikus from District 9 or, heaven forbid, Donovon Hock from ME2. In fact, whenever I'm overseas people always think I'm from Australia. I myself don't hear the similarites, but there you go.
Thirdly, I really hope the voice they used for Fenris isn't an attempt at a SA accent. It's hardly ever done well, and I really don't want to turn my speakers off. I want to hear him swear in Tevinter(ian?)
