*lol* Yeah, I mean, all Village People jokes aside, my dad was a sailor back in the day, and when I was younger I asked him what he thought of gay guys. He thought about it for a moment, then said, "When I was in port sometimes there would be guys hanging around the places where me and the other guys were hanging. If you wanted a date, they were happy to offer one. And if you just wanted a ride and some friendly conversation, they were cool with that, too. I never had a problem with anybody like that." Just knowing my dad's quiet way of making a statement, it made me realize he was telling me he didn't mind gay dudes in general at all. That made a tremendous impression on me, in contrast to what others had been telling me at that impressionable time in my life. But he hates feeling like somebody tried to hurt him without having a legitimate reason, so you're quite right that he really takes the whole "trying to kill him" thing personally! I know what you mean about Fenris. I don't think he'd be the same kind of bisexual person as Zev by any means.
But I just don't read a "bisexual" vibe from him, though he could just be the "Straight Gay" kind of character. And yet a non-elven gay guy might be (despite how funny that Penny Arcade "it's not gay if it's an elf" comic was) a refreshing change. I know one friend of mine in particular who would LOVE a gay-Hawke-friendly male human despite the fact that Fenris interests him personality-wise.

With horror. I love Aussie accents, but they sound so relaxed, sly, and fun to me, the opposite of how I imagine Fenris. I could see Isabela with an Aussie accent easier than Fenris.

It is impressive what they've done, and I will forever applaud the choice to be brave and give everyone a shot at romance.  Not a lot of developers have that kind of guts! But I do think they can do someone a little bit more unexpected as a M/M LI, and more subtle. Zevran was fun, but I don't think anyone would want them to always make the M/M LI that flashy and flirtatious. I mean, personally, I'm always more likely to fall for the stoic types, probably because I like to smile and be goofy and cheer people up. So I always imagined there must be plenty of gay guys, too, for whom Zevran was nice in ways, but not the idea LI. It's just good to give players variety, which is part of why I'm glad Aveline and Isabela don't remind me of Morrigan and Leliana and such.

I totally agree with the just friends aspect part, too. I mean, sometimes even when you realize somebody doesn't work as an LI for you, you still end up adoring them. I adored Jack in ME2 for instance, so when she was basically like, "buzz off, I'm not a lesbo," I was feeling a little bit sniffly. I just wanted to make that poor damaged girl happy but the game wouldn't let me explain that! It was like you didn't exist to anyone who didn't want to see you naked. Depressing. But it looks like in DA2 they're making things a lot deeper, which I love.

I imagine so--Bioware's pretty strong on the character integrity, so I can't imagine them just sort of skirting the issue. If Fenris was open to M/M relationships, I would expect him to say so and explain his perspective. But where Zevran was kind of iffy due to his past, I would imagine that the DA2 M/M LI will be bi in a different way. That the person would be more important to him than the parts. I'm not sure how it would be if Anders is in and bi.

I respect both your opinions, but my point was simply that Zevran can easily be seen in a negative light even if you don't want to see him that way. If you don't pick the right option, which can happen if you imagine other lines being said in a different tone than it's literally written, then things can easily end up in a bad place. Though for many people Zevran was a dream come true, for others he was not as easy to love. I came to love him, but I still object a bit to the way he was introduced, and think his qualities weren't necessarily the best way to open minds. That's what I really would like to see best of all--homosexual LIs that make straight people who don't know what to think about homosexuals (due to not having knowingly been introduced to any, or due to childhood/religious/societal brainwashing that hasn't taken enough dents from life experience) go, "Huh, wait... maybe I've been thinking about this the wrong way." Not that it's Bioware's responsibility to enlighten everyone, just that somebody's gotta do it, and they're in a decent position to try.

Despite Zev's good points, when looking at him objectively, I can't think "here is a M/M LI that will entice even mild bigots/uncomfortable people who aren't sure what to think to open their minds a little." And that's what I want to think of when I see a M/M LI: I want to think, "what a breath of fresh air." You know? And I just couldn't feel that with Zev despite liking him.

As for what sort of music (read: from the 21st century) Fen would listen to, I would have to say relaxing piano music. Or just Ryan Stewart, specifically the song called Autumn.

About Fenris' accent speculation... was Zev not Italian? Or was he more Spanish? I still can't picture what sort of accent Fenris has... maybe it's Indian... I love Indian-flavored accents.

I have to admit I'm a little excited by this news. I never got a chance to play Bioware's earlier games (though I intend to someday), but I've heard good things about Valen.
