Fenris
Penis

that story about picking a new name was true, wasn't it.

You're doing it too, lol. I always do a double-take when I read the thread title.

Ok, so it's not foot related.. hm.. *checks that off the list*

He's not a mage so.. not a shapeshifter..werewolf maybe? Related to Fen'Harel?

Hmmm, possibly because the magister saw him as nothing more than a pet, like a really vicious dog?

Since Fenris is part of our earth-based mythology and Thedas is entirely different world altogether --meaning to anyone from there "fenris" has no such association-- this seems rather dubious.

I'm bored and faffing around in photoshop, so I thought I'd make some banners for you folks. (OKAY AND YES FENRIS IS GROWING ON ME STOP GIVING ME THAT LOOK. :|)

Is there anything in particular you'd like them to say?

I KNEW YOU WOULD COME AROUND, CALLA(IA).
I will now have banners.

Somewhat less fangirly: I am excited that he now has a name and history. I am very interested now, in seeing how his story plays out in DA2.

Not too likely.

But maybe he just looks like a werewolf.. when he doesn't shave.. darn it! *crosses off facial hair on the list*

I'm sticking with the Fen'harel theory, for now.  "They know what I am. Let them come, if they find the courage."

That's neat-o, Fenris' name will be explained in the game =]

Tamyn wrote...

I bet he's Crispin Freeman Gideon Emery, or whoever voiced that sky pirate guy Balthier in Final Fantasy something-or-other. The one with the bunny women. IIRC, David was complimentary of that guy's voice when someone linked to a video of him in-game a long, long time ago.

I would be SOOOO happy if Gideon Emery ever had a role in Dragon Age.  He did in Mass Effect voicing Chellick, that turian in C-Sec you help with the weapons deal and few minor roles in ME2 like Gavorn.  He's not too shabby on the eyes either.

If Gideon Emery voices Fenris, my life will have been made. Balthier was one of very few characters in XII that I could even stand.

Aside from the strange notion that someone would need to "look" like their name, yes, there is a reason he's called Fenris. No, it has nothing to do with his abilities.

This looks promising indeed ^_^

The look-argument is foremostly based upon my reaction when seeing the name "Fenris" and then looking upon that character which appears to be designed to make people go "Squeee, he's cute!".
I just fell straight for my own five.second preconception and can't get to lose this particular (frustration ain't quite the right word, but I am currently lacking a more appropriate vacabulary, it's a bit stronger than what I'd call disappointment, but this is due to my nature defining and using principles/words in a very exact manner most of the time).

As long as he sounds like someone who's been merely a living weapon for all the time he can remember and who has endureed great hardships and his story and character fits (his story does actually seem to have great parallels with the original Fenris) I am perfectly fine, but as for know, I can't stop picturing him other than like Zevran, and I think you can agree with me that is nothing like a mythical, godpowered, giant wolve.

So you've decided what his personality is, and are having trouble reconciling it with his name based on that?

Well, fair enough, but Fenris is nothing like Zevran. So I guess you'll find out for yourself, eventually.

Yay!  Granted, Zevran wasn't exactly a BAD character, and this hardly indicates what Fenris IS like, so who knows.  Personally, I'd prefer some serious characters get rolled out now.  We've seen Isabela and Varric and I'd be fine if they have most of the light-hearted wisecrackery in this group.

i guess since he is without memory, he doesn't feel as strongly toward the elves much like how shale didn't care much about dwarves.

This. I'm ready to see some characters that are serious. I adore sarcasm and humor, but I like to have a counterbalance to it in someone in the group. I'm glad Fenris is nothing like Zev, because Zev really was one of my least favorites in DA. It'd start feeling like typecasting if Fenris were like him, imo. It would also drive me to kick my dog, or something.

Guys, he is written by David Gaider! I don't want to appear an ass kisser, but i've read his books and Alistair, Maric, Fiona etc. were great! I am sure Fenris has a big role ahead of him!

Well now, seems to be my day for gaming info, glad I finally came around to check this forum out again.

I hadn't really assumed he'd be like Zevran (who I love), that just seemed incongruent to me when provided with (some) background and screen caps. Either way, I'm happy to hear other wise, very happy.

Also, thanks to those who made banners, I had a hard time choosing.

Dang, over 30 pages already? AWESOME.

I haven't read through any of the posts in this thread, so I may say something that's already been talked about earlier. Be warned, though, long post will be long. If you manage to read it without falling asleep, I shall bestow upon you a cookie.

So, this Fenris fellow; what to say about him. Well, for starters, I LOVE HIS BACKSTORY. He sounds like he's been through Hell and what better way to help him heal than to spend time together in a cabin high in the snow-covered mountains with only the crackling fire and our own body heat to keep us warm. Oh, Maker, that sounds like the beginning of a Mary-Sue fanfic, or would that be fenfic? Heh, fenfic. Feel free to ignore my horrible jokes. It's early and I haven't had my cup of gatorade yet.

Well, looks like Fenris will be remaining by my side throughout all of our adventures. If Carver can survive, he'll be in my group, too; as for the third spot, I'll probably give that to Varric, until Nate comes along or a human male blood mage. My fem!Hawke has enough estrogen to choke a horse, figuratively speaking, so whilst I'll more than likely recruit some fem companions, they'll probably be left to go about their business. In real life, I've always been more comfortable around men, so my Hawke will probably be no different. Oh, and I don't want to take a chance on any of the girls putting the moves on Fenris. Image IPB

It's hard to believe I'm a 30-year-old woman who would like nothing more than to trace the branch-patterned markings on his body. Perhaps they're like the dotted lines on a treasure map, and if you keep following them, they'll eventually lead you to a most wonderous thing. Image IPB Boy, I need to get out more.

From the screenshots I saw, it looks like Fenris is a warrior. I'm basing that on the sword he's swinging, so if I am wrong, feel free to correct me. If he truly is a warrior, WHOO! I've always wanted to have a male elven warrior companion. ZOMGCANTWAITWANTNOW. That reminds me, I need to get on the ball and make myself a new banner for my sig that reads, "Proud to be a Fenatic." Hey, bad jokes make the best banners, didn't you know? *rubs hands together* Hehehe.

There was something else I was going to say... what was it. Oh, about Fenris' VA. I know I've been saying that I strongly believe it's Keythe Farley (Thane's VA, if you didn't know already), but last night, Nathan Fillion's name popped into my head during another of my ME2 playthroughs. It got me pondering again, and I don't know if it means anything, but there you go.

You know, I just noticed something. Chris created and stickied this topic for Fenris. I'm not sure I recall any of the other reveals getting stickies. This means something, I know it does! I bet it means Fenris is not only a companion and LI, but he will also play a very important role in DA2. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Image IPB

Like I've said, I think it'd be cool if he had a more sardonic type of humour. Loghain was a very serious character, but his sardonicism made me laugh just as much as Alistair's sarcasm, while still retaining the serious side to his character.

I wonder how different Fenris will be depending upon whether we choose the rivalry or friendship paths with him. Of course we don't know nearly enough about his personality to infer how it could go in either direction, but I'd imagine it would be an interesting contrast in any event.

I still don't trust him. Be wary against the Trickster wolf.

From way back on page 5, only more so now. Maybe just too clever for his own good and enamored of it, so he had to throw in a lupine reference in his name.

Hugin and Munin are also in the elven pantheon, after all.

Thanks! It's true though, we have to see where the lyrium leads, right?

Hmm, now I wonder if he would have something against mages. It could make for an interesting romance dynamic; mage Hawke and the elf who was enslaved by Tevinter mages.
