"Marry Me" is depressing if you really think about it, of course, but she just has such a great dark sense of humor! She has a knack for doing that; for making her songs catchy, funny, memorable, etc. but so often dark or twisted in this way that's so not pretentious or excessive. You can tell sees both the good and bad sides of life, and that she's experienced both.Madame Rose Crimsynn wrote...
Emilie Autumn is crazy, but in a way that you can love her music. "Marry Me" made me laugh and cry the first time I heard it. The music and vocals are gorgeous, the lyrics are just funny. "I Know Where You Sleep" is something I got up and danced to the first time I heard it, because it's a song that's very hard to stay still with when you hear it. But her entire style on the Opheliac CD is crazy. If you go back and listen to the Enchant album, they sound like two completely different people-- Enchant was sort of happy and had really high, floaty vocals with a Shakespearian theme. Opheliac had darker vocals, and a darker Victorian theme behind it.
That was my impression of Enchant, too--it was more straightforward and not really what you'd call scary. Well, all except for Shalott, somewhat; that song contained some hints at her future style. But Opheliac really saw her come into her own; she practically invented a genre there. Her style is really unique; I can't think of anyone who does anything like what she does.
Did you ever hear the Murder Remix of Liar by the guy who did Metalocalypse/Dethklok (same guy who did the whole metal Duncan Hills Coffee jingle which was so hilarious?) That's an interesting one! He really makes her sound like a metal singer, which is pretty amazing... *lol* I mean, you don't really think "metal" and "Emilie Autumn." She has such an expressive singing voice.
Don't feel intimidated! I'm a firm believer in quality vs. quantity... er, not that you'd know it exactly, but still.SteamPunks wrote...
Wynne's posts are so intimidating lol.
I feel so inferior for not being able to reply with so much content in
my post. Half my posts are like "LOL I NO!"I salute you.
Also, want to see Fenris cookies
Seriously, the only reason I post so much is because I enjoy the people in this thread so much. Y'all make me want to ramble! It's a pleasure to hang with so many awesome people.
D'awww. Thank you. And I totally agree; directness is a quality I very much admire. In other people.buggirl wrote...
Second the Fernis cookies. And yes
Wynne's post are always detailed and well thought out. Still there is
something to be said for being direct and to the point i.e "LOL I NO!" [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]
Gosh, I hope our Great Poobah visits us again sometime! I hope he doesn't mind us calling him Poobah. D'ya think he minds? Sometimes I worry... but nah, I guess not, I mean, it's just a term of affection. He knows we like him; like him with the fierce fury of fondness that Hawke feels for Nutella!
I don't put a smiley there because Nutella is serious business, of course.
OMG OMG OMG I want to know this so much! Although then I'd want to know when the next vid is going to be, too, otherwise I would still be tortured.Minxie18 wrote...
^Good point...
Well, I suppose a better question would be whether or not we'll get to hear Fenris in the next dev diary/vid?
Man, between wanting to know this and my neuroscience exam tomorrow, I'm getting really anxious! I technically shouldn't even be here, but I've noticed it helps me not to immerse myself in the material too completely; I actually do better when I goof off part of the time than when I do nothing but study. It's good to have a place to go to remind myself there IS something besides all those cephalons and nerve cells. Although, technically I'm using all those things to write this post AND to study... I can't get away from this stuff!!! *laughing*
