Well he wouldn't talk about Zevran as a "potential love interest". He is a "well known love interest" xD

I see.

@Calla S, now I know what your dA account is, I am going to put you on my stalk list!

@Yellow; D'aw I'm sorry, didn't mean to break your heart. ;) if my phone didn't have this stupid character limit, though, I could do much much better. Probably shatter the poor thing. D: And now that I've written that, I'm thinking it's probably very likely that you have to choose between Fenris and everything else. Because killing Fenris would be cruel. Making Hawke kill Fenris would be cruelier. Having Hawke kill Fenris while in love with him? Cruelist. The river of tears from fan-girls will flow rapidly into the coffee pot of those devious devs.

I'm wondering if there's a major choice to be made here. Keep Fenris alive at the expense of everything else and consequently wreck great havoc upon the world, or kill him and the world still has issues, but not of the "bringing the world to the brink of war" variety.

Or I could be reading way too much into this. That's definitely possible Image IPB

Thanks for the reply about

Nutella is chocolate and hazelnut butter, folks. TRUE STORY. Except actually true.

Ingredients List: (translated from Dutch) Sugar, Plant Oil, Hazelnuts, Skim Chocolate, Skim Milk Powder, Whey, Soy-Lecithin, Flavorings. There is no peanut butter and no almond! Voila.

Isabela: Fenris you need to tell me where you got that plush bunny.

Fenris: Why in the Maker's name would a pirate such as yourself want a plush bunny?

Isabela: Oh, I have no particular reason. Perhaps, I just want something to hug at night while I sleep.

Hawke: And here I was thinking that was my job.

Isabela:
(playfully) I said while I sleep kitten.

Fenris: (muttering whilst rifling through his pack) It's going to be alright Ser Hops-a-Lot, the scary pirate lady won't take you away from me. (notices Hawke and Isabela are staring at him) Supply check. Can't go climbing Sundermount without appropriate supplies now can we?

*lmao* I meant Carver--but it makes a nice twist! ;)

Now, see Christopher Nolan has done an
excellent job IMO with the rebooted Batman movies. I was skeptical of
having The Joker in The Dark Knight, and was happily disappointed when I
saw that movie.

I don't understand the Anne Hathaway displeasure... then again, I never saw the Princess Diaries. I think she's an intriguing choice for Catwoman, and a better actress than Katie Holmes. I just hope Nolan sticks to his guns and keeps his Batverse grounded.

He is seriously one of my favorite directors ever ever ever ever ever, so I trust him.

Also, your Fenris diary, LotR style, was epic awesome.

*lol* I am the opposite--well, I prefer wine, champagne, and beer to the hard stuff 90% of the time, and I've only gotten seriously drunk like 3 times in my life, but I discovered I am utterly immune to hangovers. Never had one.

Some of the people I know are so jealous... ;) And it's a good trait to have here in Belgium, land o' beer.

I cannot figure out why I never heard of cherry beer before I came here! America should be importing the crap out of this stuff. I mean, seriously, over here there's cherry beer, raspberry beer, lemon beer, blackberry beer, even ELDERBERRY beer! ... and they all taste like sparkly, rich, fruity, frothy champagne (assuming you get a decent brand.)

I also like dark beers like a nice Grimbergen dubbel, and Hoegaarden's nice and refreshing in the summer when you get it off the tap, but not everyone goes for those. The fruit beers, however, range from very sweet to very tart and are something many women would just love. They rock. I don't understand why America imports so many Belgian beers but not the fruit beers. It's so weird that I had never heard of kriek before!

found here.
That's all. I wouldn't spread information so definitive, like "LIs will
be announced before February," unless I could back it up.

Ahem.

About the first part--I am now very sad.

About the second part, I offer you this.

FenrisDeSolar wrote...

I don't want taller elves!! D:< THEY WERE FINE THE WAY THEY WERE!!!

I have a similar feeling to that statement.

I'm going to try to say this sensitively, and let people judge for themselves whether what I say hits home for them or not. I honestly have no one specific in mind. I've read far too many posts today and my exam is still so much on my brain that I wrote "tests" first and had to correct it to posts--in other words if there are names attached to this, I don't remember them, so there's nothing personal about what I'm saying.

I understand why Bioware is doing this, and I understand why some people like it--you like what you're used to; what brings back fond memories. That doesn't trouble me. I prefer variety when it comes to height, but I accept that Bioware had good reasons for the changes.

But what does disturb me, greatly, is that some of what I have read--here and in the other thread--reminds me of, "UGH, two guys kissing in public... gross. That just looks fundamentally wrong" or maybe "a black man with a white woman... I don't know, that just don't look right to me." Those might be personal opinions, technically, but are they really--appropriate? Or do they maybe implicate something subtly ugly about the mindset of the person saying them?

I don't take issue with personal preference fairly stated. But I do believe in my heart that some people should ask themselves whether they have a personal bias against those couples, and whether that bias is something they really want to hold onto.

Real love is precious enough in this world that I don't think we should decry anyone who's found it. Like race and sexual orientation, nobody chooses to grow tall--nor to not grow much at all. Love is just love, and I find it beautiful in all its forms.

Personally, I hope that Fenris and Varric are both love interests. Then everyone can be happy.

Testing out new prompts.

Sweets:

Hawke: (notices Fenris eating a piece of cake) Fenris, where did you get that cake from?

Fenris: The proprietor of the shop down on the corner gave it to me. She said it was a way of thanking us for helping her out.

Hawke: This wouldn't be the same shopkeeper that Isabela goes to for...certain items, would it?

Fenris: What exactly do you mean by "certain items"?

Hawke:
You do know that the shopkeeper fills her days making poisons and cake right?

Fenris: (chokes on cake)

I don't know if anyone mentioned this already, but you could have to do something like a loyalty quest similar to ME2. Hawke might have to help Fenris confront his former master, and either destroy the bastard, or have mercy. (But from the sounds of it I'd probably waste the guy, lol.)

I doubt you'll have to choose between Fenris or the world, although having an option to kill him would definitely be heart-wrenching!

Just my two cents. I'm totally on this band wagon. ^_^

I just had a thought. Confronting the magister is almost expected to be one of Fenris' side quests (I know I'll be surprised if it isn't), and I know many people have mentioned possible outcomes, but I think there's one people have missed. What if there's the chance that Fenris dies during the confrontation? I mean, if he's knocked out at the fight's end, or his health is too low.
On those lines, I came up with this little snippet:

Hawke watched as the magister collapsed to the ground. Relief flooded through her as she realised that the shadow that had been overshadowing her and Fenris for the past five years was finally gone. No more would either of them have to look over their shoulder in dread. They were free.

Smiling slightly, she turned round to Fenris. Her smile fell the moment she saw her lover lying motionless on the ground, his sword beside him and the grass beneath him turning red. Frowning worriedly, she knelt down beside him and lightly shook his shoulder.

“Fenris?” she called in a small voice.

Slowly, he opened his eyes wearily. He turned his head just enough so he could look at her with heavy-lidded eyes. The moss green that she loved so much was glassy and distant. He gave her a weak, relieved smile.

“It’s over,” he whispered.

“It’s over,” she repeated, tears flowing down her cheeks.

“Thank you... Leanne...” he mumbled, resting his head back on the ground. “I’m free...”

Silently, Hawke bent down and placed a light kiss on his cheek. He was so pale, and he felt so cold. When she drew back, she saw his eyes staring lifelessly ahead of him, and the last remnants of his smile were fading as his spirit left for beyond the Fade.

“My love...” she whispered, gently closing his eyelids. “You always were.”

But, yeah... Fenris dying during confrontation with magister. What does everyone else think?

Awesome.
This is now filed.

Folks, from this week on, the prompt will be filed in multiple places. As well as my own notepad, I also store it in our group, Fenris' Fanatic Followers, sorted by Prompt theme. Each submission is inserted as a linky under each theme.

Tricky also started a page on LJ, it's underconstruction at the moment. It should be up and runny pretty soon.

Getter bigger, this prompt thing. Am feeling really proud.

The Prompt topic, and the entires, are in here

And the big revealation on the Grand Poobah:

The Grand Poobah wrote...

Dr. Doctor wrote...
The one question that I have for Dave, is how do you go about creating a character like Fenris? Is the major plot of the story hammered out before characters are introduced, or are general character profiles introduced before moving along with the story?

There are two things that need to exist when creating a companion:

1) A place in the story.

2) A hook.

#1 doesn't always happen if #2 is really strong, so sometimes we forget... and then we regret it later on. A place in the story means that there is something going on in the plot (or one of the plots) that is very central to what that character is about. They care about it, so you do too. Plots can be abstract things, especially when they relate to a world you have only a vicarious stake in, so followers serve to personify those conflicts.

But #2 is enough. There has to be a hook-- for me, not the player. Something that I want to say with a character, either a moment I know I want them to have, a twist on a romantic archetype, a thing that they have which makes me excitedto write them. If there isn't a hook, no matter what we do the character will be boring. That can happen, too, in which case you have to create a hook. For yourself. Nobody else needs to care about it.

For Morrigan, the hook was the Dark Ritual. I knew that moment would exist almost before the rest of the game did. Alistair didn't start off having a hook, and I realized it after I began writing him. He was a distrustful, surly sort and I hated it. So... what to do? I wanted to make his dialogue fun, the sort of person who guys wouldn't hate because he was a buddy. Since I was watching BtVS at the time, it came to me when I was (predictably) analyzing Joss Whedon's method of delivering dialogue. Anachronistic, sure, but could it be done in fantasy...? I wanted to try.

There was a hook for Fenris, but I can't tell you what it is yet. It's a spoiler. The tattoos came later (and, amusingly, before I even saw Jack), but there was an element to Fenris that made me want to write him. His #1 is also significant, which is important as I mandated that every DA2 character would need a #1. It's a more personal story, after all, without a "YOU MUST SAVE THE WORLD NO YOU MUST" thing going on-- and thus the ciphers are that much more important.

Everything else after that fact is just mechanics and plot documents. And finding the voice. That's separate and not always easy, and sometimes doesn't come until you hit the Moment-- which could happen right away or halfway through writing the character.

Ooooh no. Mrs Hawke's Cake of Death is a completely different baked good all together:

Merrill: (staring at cake) Hawke, are you certain that Ironbark isn't an ingredient in your mother's fruitcake?

Fenris: Believe me Merrill, if it was this cake would be edible. Why did we bring this along with us anyway?

Hawke: Because despite it's lack of flavor, or texture, or any discerable qualities that could relate it to food, having something as dense as Carver's head can come in handy sometimes.

Meanwhile in Ferelden

Arnell: (fighting a Werewolf) Alistair throw the cake!

Alistair: (yelling) I don't think that tall, dark, and hairy here wants a snack!

Arnell: Just throw it!

Alistair: Alright! Fine!

(Alistair quickly rummages through his pack and produces a cake that looks similar to the one that Hawke's band has. He then throws it at the werewolf's head. The cake connects with a mighty thud, snapping the beast's neck, thus ending the fight)

Alistair: What in the Maker's name is in that cake?

Arnell: You don't want to know.
