I just had a thought. Confronting the magister is almost expected to be one of Fenris' side quests (I know I'll be surprised if it isn't), and I know many people have mentioned possible outcomes, but I think there's one people have missed. What if there's the chance that Fenris dies during the confrontation? I mean, if he's knocked out at the fight's end, or his health is too low.
On those lines, I came up with this little snippet:

Hawke watched as the magister collapsed to the ground. Relief flooded through her as she realised that the shadow that had been overshadowing her and Fenris for the past five years was finally gone. No more would either of them have to look over their shoulder in dread. They were free.

Smiling slightly, she turned round to Fenris. Her smile fell the moment she saw her lover lying motionless on the ground, his sword beside him and the grass beneath him turning red. Frowning worriedly, she knelt down beside him and lightly shook his shoulder.

“Fenris?” she called in a small voice.

Slowly, he opened his eyes wearily. He turned his head just enough so he could look at her with heavy-lidded eyes. The moss green that she loved so much was glassy and distant. He gave her a weak, relieved smile.

“It’s over,” he whispered.

“It’s over,” she repeated, tears flowing down her cheeks.

“Thank you... Leanne...” he mumbled, resting his head back on the ground. “I’m free...”

Silently, Hawke bent down and placed a light kiss on his cheek. He was so pale, and he felt so cold. When she drew back, she saw his eyes staring lifelessly ahead of him, and the last remnants of his smile were fading as his spirit left for beyond the Fade.

“My love...” she whispered, gently closing his eyelids. “You always were.”

But, yeah... Fenris dying during confrontation with magister. What does everyone else think?

I love the dying part!

i have been away for a few days so i need to if anything new has come up like say The Grand Poobah coming by. also what what are the promonts for this week.

The Prompt topic, and the entires, are in here

And the big revealation on the Grand Poobah:

The one question that I have for Dave, is how do you go about creating a character like Fenris? Is the major plot of the story hammered out before characters are introduced, or are general character profiles introduced before moving along with the story?

There are two things that need to exist when creating a companion:

1) A place in the story.

2) A hook.

#1 doesn't always happen if #2 is really strong, so sometimes we forget... and then we regret it later on. A place in the story means that there is something going on in the plot (or one of the plots) that is very central to what that character is about. They care about it, so you do too. Plots can be abstract things, especially when they relate to a world you have only a vicarious stake in, so followers serve to personify those conflicts.

But #2 is enough. There has to be a hook-- for me, not the player. Something that I want to say with a character, either a moment I know I want them to have, a twist on a romantic archetype, a thing that they have which makes me excitedto write them. If there isn't a hook, no matter what we do the character will be boring. That can happen, too, in which case you have to create a hook. For yourself. Nobody else needs to care about it.

For Morrigan, the hook was the Dark Ritual. I knew that moment would exist almost before the rest of the game did. Alistair didn't start off having a hook, and I realized it after I began writing him. He was a distrustful, surly sort and I hated it. So... what to do? I wanted to make his dialogue fun, the sort of person who guys wouldn't hate because he was a buddy. Since I was watching BtVS at the time, it came to me when I was (predictably) analyzing Joss Whedon's method of delivering dialogue. Anachronistic, sure, but could it be done in fantasy...? I wanted to try.

There was a hook for Fenris, but I can't tell you what it is yet. It's a spoiler. The tattoos came later (and, amusingly, before I even saw Jack), but there was an element to Fenris that made me want to write him. His #1 is also significant, which is important as I mandated that every DA2 character would need a #1. It's a more personal story, after all, without a "YOU MUST SAVE THE WORLD NO YOU MUST" thing going on-- and thus the ciphers are that much more important.

Everything else after that fact is just mechanics and plot documents. And finding the voice. That's separate and not always easy, and sometimes doesn't come until you hit the Moment-- which could happen right away or halfway through writing the character.

your kinding right dang i would be here when these had happen if not for school(9th grader) and homework. ugh

*Delurks after 5 days in the shadows of the Fen-thread*

I'm finally having time to post in the thread again (been busy preparing for study-start next week and getting used to the thought of moving 170km away from my home), but I must say that I'm very pleased with what's been happening:

400 pages already, wow we move fast *late celebrating with decaf.coffee and Haribo Vampires".
It's so nice catching up on the thread when it's filled with tons of wonderful stories, artworks and new Gaider-revelations. I've said it before and will probably say it again: "This thread just makes me happy." Image IPB

Regarding the new info:
I'm pleased that Fen is taller than Lady Hawke, but wouldn't have cared if he was shorter than her. What I do really like is that elves is still shorter than the human of the same sex. It keeps a little bit of the elf-model from DA:O IMO. Image IPB

About the shoes, I had hoped that it was Fen alone who didn't wear shoes, I thinks it's a little weird that a whole race is characterized by not wearing footwear. Especially since (in my head) Fen doesn't have any connection with his race as a people.

EDIT: Please Great Gaider, make Fen a LI and grant him and Hawkette a happy ending (as in Alistair + dark ritual + not rejected by him).Image IPB

Ok, for all the new ones joining this thread, here are all the answers that he said;

Fully answered ones have been edited on page 354 on the forums.
MagneticDawn wrote...

1. How tall is Fenris Compared to Fem!Hawke?
David Gaider wrote...

I don't know. I've never compared the two. I think elves are now the same height as humans, so he'd be a bit taller than FemHawke, but I could be wrong.
2. Will Fenris ever wear shoes?
David Gaider wrote...

No. The artists have this thing about elves and shoes. Don't get me started.

4. Who decides the VA for all the characters?
David Gaider wrote...

It's between myself, the Lead
Designer (Mike) and the VO Producer (Caroline) for any major characters.
Caroline decides the others on her own (though she will seek out
approval from time to time, or clarification if she's unsure what
someone needs).

For major characters we start either with a
suggestion, if someone has a particular VA in mind, or with the bible
entry that determines things like apparent age, accent, role in the
story, etc. At that point Caroline would start rounding up suitable
candidates (either from actors she knows about or through casting
agents-- she searches around a lot) and will get Mike and myself
(and sometimes the other writers, who I will get involved if it's their
character) to listen and make suggestions on who could be a good pick.
Sometimes it works, sometimes we try someone out and recast. Sometimes
we recast after a lot of recording has been done, but that's a hard
decision.

Every now and again, if it's a hard role, we'll make up
an audition script and send it out to casting agents so they can have
actors send in audition recordings for that role specifically (which is a
bit easier to discern, as opposed to listening to commercials or other
characters they did and trying to figure out if they have the range to
do the character you want).

David Gaider wrote...
Boxers, Briefs or Commando for Fenris?
You
could ask that about any character. I'm of the opinion that people in
Thedas don't really wear underwear, per se... maybe a slip for girls and
"small shorts" for men... but the artists disagree. So I suppose boxers
would be the best answer.

-3- I was picking random ones as to not spoil the game too much..

Mum: Meh, not as cute as Legolas.

Dad: Oh dear God. This is who you've been mooning over for the past month?

Brother: -snicker- He's an emo ****!

-_- Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

also, we forgot to ask TGP if Fenris' hair is naturally white or if it's effected by the lyrium. D:

The Grand Poobah, I believe. .-. Though The Gaider Pony is a nice one.

Is it...is it creepy that 'Fireflies' by Owl City came on my MP3 player the moment I looked at that picture? Because I think it is.
