I wonder if Fenris has tattoos on his gluteous maximus? Probably swirly ones.

This should be a question for David Gaider!...more like, will his tattoos be all over his body? Zevran said he had more, but he LIED! Just like he said he was skilled at lock picking (he is, but only once you put points into that talent!)

Edit: For teh SqueeesB)

Ok... wow... Everytime I come back to this thread there is something awesome revealed. After reading that list of holy Gaider revelations, this is my reaction:

I gigglesnort at the boxer answer. I never thought that was gonna be answered, since it's so silly.  Oh, Mr. Gaider... these happy tears are for you.

The one question that I have for Dave, is how do you go about creating a character like Fenris? Is the major plot of the story hammered out before characters are introduced, or are general character profiles introduced before moving along with the story?

There are two things that need to exist when creating a companion:

1) A place in the story.

2) A hook.

#1 doesn't always happen if #2 is really strong, so sometimes we forget... and then we regret it later on. A place in the story means that there is something going on in the plot (or one of the plots) that is very central to what that character is about. They care about it, so you do too. Plots can be abstract things, especially when they relate to a world you have only a vicarious stake in, so followers serve to personify those conflicts.

But #2 is enough. There has to be a hook-- for me, not the player. Something that I want to say with a character, either a moment I know I want them to have, a twist on a romantic archetype, a thing that they have which makes me excited to write them. If there isn't a hook, no matter what we do the character will be boring. That can happen, too, in which case you have to create a hook. For yourself. Nobody else needs to care about it.

For Morrigan, the hook was the Dark Ritual. I knew that moment would exist almost before the rest of the game did. Alistair didn't start off having a hook, and I realized it after I began writing him. He was a distrustful, surly sort and I hated it. So... what to do? I wanted to make his dialogue fun, the sort of person who guys wouldn't hate because he was a buddy. Since I was watching BtVS at the time, it came to me when I was (predictably) analyzing Joss Whedon's method of delivering dialogue. Anachronistic, sure, but could it be done in fantasy...? I wanted to try.

There was a hook for Fenris, but I can't tell you what it is yet. It's a spoiler. The tattoos came later (and, amusingly, before I even saw Jack), but there was an element to Fenris that made me want to write him. His #1 is also significant, which is important as I mandated that every DA2 character would need a #1. It's a more personal story, after all, without a "YOU MUST SAVE THE WORLD NO YOU MUST" thing going on-- and thus the ciphers are that much more important.

Everything else after that fact is just mechanics and plot documents. And finding the voice. That's separate and not always easy, and sometimes doesn't come until you hit the Moment-- which could happen right away or halfway through writing the character.

This...was incredibly enjoyable to read. I especially like the insight into how Joss Whedon, God that he is, helped give us our beloved Alistair.

Sorry, Chris.

But you had to know that when you start an "Official Fernis Thread", you're really starting the "Official Squee Fest".

I mean, don't get me wrong, I went nuts over Alistair in DA: Origins, but that wasn't until I actually started playing the game. (: I'm gonna give myself a little time in-game before I decide to devote my eternal soul to this guy, no matter how wicked the lyrium is.

Mmm...dem hips. :D

lol, my mum came over to see what I was staring at, and she just stared at it with me for a few minutes. xD

I've been trying to think of opening lines that Fenris could say (Y'know, like Alistair would say 'Yeeees?' o 'Something you need, my dear?) so far I've got 'And you want?' (rival/neutral) 'Oh...hi.' (friend) and 'Need something, love?' (lover) i'm not feeling very creative atm. Dx

Avada kedavra!

Random, but this made me wonder: does Fenris know when his "living  weapon" powers are unleashed, or is it more of an unconscious thing/he does it inadvertently?  Has he knowingly used his abilities to kill innocent people?  How much has this all damaged him emotionally and mentally, anyway?

If he's someone who simply doesn't care who he hurts and enjoys doing so, my female mage Hawke is definitely going to have a chat with him Posted Image

For me, the "living weapon" part is more of an increased resistence to magic rather than a power that can be unleashed...if someone is more resistent to magic (imagine a lightning bolt or flames being absorbed through tattoos and then the magic "grounded"), it makes them more lethal to mages

This seems like a possibility. I've thought for a while that the magister used Fenris to take out rival mages and he was probably good at it because of a strong resistance to magic.

We're kinda...possessive over Fenris, aren't we? O_o I was just looking back a few pages, and peeps were getting jealous over some Merril/Fen stuff.

Makes me think Stephen by Ke$ha is our theme song.

Fenris, why won't you call me? I'm sitting here waiting. Why won't you call me? Fenris, I can't take rejection. I'm feeling pathetic. Why won't you call me?

Fenris...I'll knit you a sweater.

I wanna wrap you up in my love...forever.

I'll never let you go Fenris.

I'll never let go.

Wow. I scared myself with that last line

Is there any info on how Fenris learned how to use a sword? Or even how he obtained it? (I apologize if this has already been answered)

Also, I think the term Gaider-aid would be a nice addition.

(e.g. "I could really use a Gaider-aid after these long weeks of unanswered Fenris questions," or, "Has there been any Gaider-aid since I left?")

I was under the impression his master was using him as a weapon and somehow had him trained? Don't ask me where this came from, I could just me making it up for all I know. I'll look around to see if there's any answer to this.
