@Dhiro; Agreed. The dwarven-elven rivalry need not extend to the fan-girls and boys.

Except we're not the ones making it a bloody race. The Varric thread has been happily hovering in the 400s for weeks now, and I don't think any of us (well, most of us) have made a big deal of it. I'm sure if we wanted to stoop to that level, we could make the Varric thread grow just as fast as this one. However, we aren't quite willing to do that.

Geez, Calla, just forget it. It's not like they're shooting at us or anything, what's the problem with peace between threads?

Where did you get this Tevinter = Australia?

No, Surfer girl said that if it was australian, she'd be surprised, and even more so if it works..

But I don't think Tevinter is  Aussie, though stranger things have happened..

Really, I think I would just die laughing if the Dev team decided that Tevinter was like the Canadian Province of Newfoundland....We'd meet someone from Tevinter and immediately have little idea of what they're talking about :)

But nobody here is making it a race either I think Dawn said off handedly that the Fenris thread might pass the Varric thread, that's it. I'm not understanding all the under handed snark and hostility all of a sudden

Shall we ignore the negative comments and turn our attention to other on-topic things? I do not think Australian would fit for Tevinter, but a more flashy country. That's why I'm going to go with Italian. Although I don't know any Italian VAs. :-(

There is no rivalry.

This is Dragon Age.

Not Lord of the Rings.

Tricky, you have to admit that it could be seen as a bit of a challenge to the Varric thread....

I don't know of any male actors with unique accents who've VA'd for any well-known RPGs. So I can't make speculations. :( I secretly hope for a Russian accent though, or German.

Im still hoping for a former Austrian-American governor of a very populous state for his VA :)

I have Total Recall running in the background while I am working. If Arnold is the VA I will always imagine Fenris running around with a towel on his head.

Right silly me, back on topic isn't Antivia supposed to be mock Italy though before I leave again?

My frustration with this thread on P418 was negative and on-topic.

I didn't realize drawing this would cause drama. It was a parody on character interactions and rivalries, not something to egg people on. :c

Hmm, for some reason I always thought Antiva was Spanish, but maybe that's just because of Zev's weird accent.  Greek would be a bit hard to pinpoint for alot of people, don't you think?  And he said the VA would be easy to guess based on it.  Cassandra is Russian sounding right?  Where's she from again?

Dragon Age Wiki says..

Writer David Gaider has stated that the Tevinter Imperium is loosely influenced by the real-world Byzantine Empire, heir of the Roman Empire.[1] They share a number of similarities: the polytheistic Tevinter was weakened by the birth of the Andrastian Religion, just as the polytheistic Roman Empire was weakened by the rise of the Christian religion; both Empires later converted to monotheism. Tevinter had several Exalted Marches called against it, just as the Byzantine Empire had several Crusades against it. Finally, Tevinter is standing alone against the Qunari, just as the Byzantine Empire fought alone for almost five centuries against the Seljuks first, and later the Ottomans.

If he, or who ever decided it, based the language off of that also, Latin was their offical language until it changed to Greek. ....Which is why I'm hoping for the VA who did Ezio's voice in AC. I could listen to him tell me how to put a tree house together and it would amaze me to no end.

Myself and another poster (who I can't remember, but am by no means going to go back and try and find it in this morass :) talked a bit about Fenris and his memory.  The other poster (a guy I think, so that narrows it down considerably) mentioned something like if Fenris willingly lost his memory, which got us talking about Total Recall, which got me on the wagon for Ahnold as VA! :)

Doesn't Antiva hve elementsof both Italy and Spain?  Or am I just making stuff up?  I thought that's what I ha read on the wiki before.

In any case, Greek/Italian/Russian all sound good to me.

Question: Would Bioware ever hire someone who wasn't native to a particular country to voice a character with that accent (ie would they hire an American to voice a character with an Italian accent)?

Just because the Tevinter Imperium is loosely based upon the Eastern Roman Empire does not mean that its people sound the same. Those connections are as tenuous or as precise as David Gaider and the writers want to make them. Until we hear something described as a Tevinter accent there is no really good reason to expect that they sound anything like anyone living in Byzantium during the Ottoman conquest or Christian Crusades.

Latin was the lingua franca but doesn't mean that it would be Italian...different dialects sound differently.  Best example I can think of is French.  Parisien French is much different from Quebecois French which is much different from Cajun French (Dave of Canada, feel free to chime in here and back me up with the Quebecois if Im off on this...been so long since I've taken French up north :)

Even so is it really that serious that the troops need to start coming over  with snark and backhanded comments just because someone said that? I'm sure it'd be pretty annoying everytime you guys said something pertaining to this thread and like 5 people came storming over every time lol. Secondly who flippin cares? People just talk more frequently over here it's just a number there's no need for this all this.

Well I know for sure cajun French is it's own unique beast, so yes that's a good point bsbcaer.

--edit---
*hopes for people to start ignoring the Varric trolls so they go away...I sure hope we don't troll over there.  I"ve never even been there.
