I don't know--I always kinda felt like that Varric and Fenris are both the underdogs. Varric is a dwarf, which for some incomprehensible reason certain people think means he can't be appealing to anyone, while Fenris is--according to some people--too fruity, too pretty, too "Zevran", not manly enough, or whatever. I think both lines of thought are marveously stupid. So I've always kind of felt like we should be actively supportive of each other. Maybe I'm alone in that, I don't know, but I do feel we're in the same boat and if somebody gets disappointed, I'm going to feel bad for them no matter who it is.
Great post. I've been thinking the same thing for a while now.
Thank you.

Me
too...it's just that i can't keep my temper under control whenever i
hear things like "YOU MADE THE ELVES TALLER BECAUSE OF FENRI'S FANGIRLS!
What they can't romance him if he is an inch too short?!". See there i
lost it again [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie]
I know... but those people who blame Fengirls for a decision that happened long before we knew he existed--they really are the minority. The vocal, stupid minority. You can't let those people get you down. Otherwise you will catch yourself HERE:

As I have done many a time.

It's hard, but every now and then you've just gotta tell yourself, "Pff. I can either waste my life trying to get idiots to stop being idiots, or I can go do something fun." And then go do the fun thing. *hugs*

So according to a new interview
(stickied on forum page) our companions will have their own lives in
Kirkwall, and we'll see them around the city interacting with one
another. Where do you suppose we'd find Fenris?
I can't tell you how thrilled I was to read that part of Mike's interview--I had major fangasms. Hmm... it's definitely worth quoting for the sake of anybody who hasn't seen it yet:
...the companions aren’t hanging out at your camp. ... For this one what we’ve tried to do is give him the sense that your companions actually have their own space, their own role, their own kind of agendas in the city of Kirkwall. There are moments when you come into the bar and you’ll find one companion chatting with another. You start talking to them, and then they’re talking about something the two of them have done. Then they’re like, “Oh hey Hawke, how are you doing,” and one of them gets up and leaves and you continue on. It creates this dynamic between the companions that says these are people. They have friendships within their own group. They’ve gotten to know people through you. As the game progresses, as that decade plays out, they start to have their own rivalries and things like, “I did that favor for you like you asked” kind of stuff. And you’re like, “Wow, this is neat.” These feel like much more realized people simply because they have their own place and goals within the city. I would like to proclaim "Wow, this is neat" to be the understatement of the CENTURY. I've been dreaming of that kind of interaction since freaking Daggerfall.
As to Fenris... I really don't know where he'd hang out. I wish we knew more about Kirkwall's layout. I would think he's a loner, but they develop over time, and maybe he'd actually get addicted to friendly company after what he went through. So he might even hang with Isabela and Varric at the tavern.

Oh and Wynne, you did a good job on making Fenris look younger [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/w00t.png[/smilie]I like him withered also...he looks like he has experience, a story to tell.

ceruleancrescent wrote...
This is gorgeous, absolutely beautiful. I really like what you did there [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]
Thank you both.

I really do like him either way, but he certainly is more earthy the way Bioware did him--you can tell that he's lived through things that shaped him.

I myself have no problem with Fenris,
or any other party members having romances between one another. I like
this because it gives the characters relationships and interactions that
don't revolve just around the player character.
This is not to
say that I don't want Fenris to be and LI, I'm just saying that if I
choose not to romance him I'd be fine if he started a relationship with
another character.
I agree with that sentiment. If I've had him once, I might even think him with Bethany was sweet when I'm playing a Male Hawke or Lesbian Hawke. (And I'm already planning on both.)
But if I couldn't romance Fenris at all, and he
always got together with some other character... that would be a hard sort of slap in the face, just because I haven't found a character this intriguing since... since I don't know when. Probably Gann-of-Dreams in MotB, seeing as he was one of my favorite romances ever.
And that was the same feeling, come to think of it... this feeling of, "I have no idea what this character is about... a hagspawn sounds like a really weird choice for a romance. But at the same time, their concept for him just sounds so cool that I can't wait to see what he's about." I feel essentially the same about Fenris. The lyrium veins and memory loss are weird, but I have a scientific mind. I love to explore what's out there.

You were wise to call yourself
Wynne...Wynne lol that bit information is quite interesting thanks for
sharing, also kudos for being sane. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]
It was my pleasure.

My choice of user-name, though, was only because it's my real name; I've
been posting with it since the old days of BG2 on the original Bioware forums.
Imagine my surprise when a character popped up in DAO with my real life name! *lol* That was an interesting experience.

That was incredibly insightful [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie] On
the note of Mehrabian's rule, it makes me so happy with the
improvements in character animations. In DAO a lot of the time,
characters would stand rather still during a conversation. In DA2 we
have things like Fenris slamming his hands on a table, Varric casually
twirling an arrow, more subtle facial expressions, etc. These things
make them seem more real. We had the voice and the tone before, now we
get the subtleties of body language. I think it's fantastic.
Oh, me too! It really is amazing... I mean, there were hints of it in DA with the movement of eyes, but the improvements in DA2 are noticeable.

The Sebastian Vael trailer with the dynamics going on there impressed me (especially the arrow through the paper and the reaction on the woman's face) not to mention the Isabela/Hawke scene and Fenris's famed table-slam. I can't
wait to see it all play out in-game!

I'm waiting for a scene where
Varric/IsabellaMerrill is trying to get Fenris drunk. "C'mon buddy... I'll pace you!"
Fixed!

Cute little Merrill drinking Fenris under the table would be
awesome beyond words.
