And, just to remind myself that I shouldn't ever color things ever:

Posted Image

Oh well!  Practice makes perfect, and all that. xD  I hate how colors seem to change from my tablet to my monitor, but there's not a whole lot I can do about that, as I think it's a problem with the backlight. =/

At least this is out of my system now. >>

I myself have no problem with Fenris, or any other party members having romances between one another. I like this because it gives the characters relationships and interactions that don't revolve just around the player character.

This is not to say that I don't want Fenris to be and LI, I'm just saying that if I choose not to romance him I'd be fine if he started a relationship with another character.

Me too. I think it would actually be really interesting if Fenris started a romance with Bethany or someone else in the party - as long as Hawke gets a chance with him too that would be fun. :D The thing I really like about this idea is knowing that Fenris will still have somebody if I choose to romance, say, "Anders" or whoever else happens to be an LI. (I always feel bad for Zevran when I turn him down while I'm trying to romance Alistair and vice-versa ).

However, I could've sworn one of the devs said that there would be no romances amongst different party members... I don't know if I'm imagining things or not, though. I just feel like I remember there was a point (not necessarily in this thread) where the possibility of romances amongst party members was discussed a lot, and a dev eventually struck down the theory...

So quick question fenaddicts what exactly is it about Fenris that you find attractive? Like physically his angst ridden past put to the side for a second. Is it the caramel toned skin? the snowy white hair? the lyrium scars? Inquiring minds wanna know...

I like all of those things. He just looks--immediately unusual. The white hair instead of yellow hair makes a big difference for me; I don't think "surfer" like I did with Zev. Normally I hate light hair with black eyebrows, but instead of thinking "hair dye" I think "those white veins... what was done to him sucked all the color out of his hair. Cool." It's an immediate visual punch, that. Odd, striking, but you can guess at the reasons right away.

Both the concept art and the in-game 'translation' of it speak of a character with a little bit of mystery to him. Somebody who doesn't immediately make it obvious what he thinks or feels, and whose subtlety tends to make those times when he is unsubtle all the more impactful. I cherish that, possibly because it's a challenge, and it's an area I have a knack for. I am drawn to people who have trouble expressing who they are or what they feel precisely because it's something I'm good at.

So I can't completely separate the art from what I think about the character. But it's as you say--Fenris isn't traditionally handsome This to me does not look like the face of an untried pretty boy. He's handsome, but he looks like he's lived and had to fight off despair for a long time.

You know, Mehrabian's rule is interesting here--the 7-38-55 rule. He felt that 7% of communication is what you say, 38% is your tone of voice, and 55% is body language. Some have taken it further and said that body language is actually 65% or more of communication; we all make unconscious judgments of people based on it. For instance, you see a girl hunched over in her chair, eyes down, arms around herself... you're immediately going to realize she's either sad or nervous; her facial expression and eyes will tell you which.

So, just the way he's standing in that photo, his facial expression--I wonder how much of that drew fan attention. That very slight ironic smile on his face, mixed with determination... that intrigues me no end.

That said, the idea of a young Fenris does intrigue me. And I needed a rest after all that studying for the neuroscience exam that I did. So, here goes. Young Fenris comes out of the fog of fictional history:
-snip-
I think he looks nice that way, too, but I like the weathered version MUCH better; he has more character that way. Less pretty, more interesting. This is coming from a girl who usually prefers slightly younger guys who are sorta pretty, so that's saying something. I just really like his design.

Though, looking at the younger version, it does make me wonder if the lyrium affected... er, never mind. Let's not go to that naughty place again. :innocent:

That was incredibly insightful :D On the note of Mehrabian's rule, it makes me so happy with the improvements in character animations. In DAO a lot of the time, characters would stand rather still during a conversation. In DA2 we have things like Fenris slamming his hands on a table, Varric casually twirling an arrow, more subtle facial expressions, etc. These things make them seem more real. We had the voice and the tone before, now we get the subtleties of body language. I think it's fantastic.

I'm still a fan of Merrill/Fenris ;)
I'm waiting for a scene where Varric/Isabella is trying to get Fenris drunk. "C'mon buddy... I'll pace you!"

I would really like romances, friendships, rivalries between the companions, but I would find it troublesome if the LI's were more interested in other girls/guys. I think flirting would be okay, if we could respond positive/negative to it.

I don't know--I always kinda felt like that Varric and Fenris are both the underdogs. Varric is a dwarf, which for some incomprehensible reason certain people think means he can't be appealing to anyone, while Fenris is--according to some people--too fruity, too pretty, too "Zevran", not manly enough, or whatever. I think both lines of thought are marveously stupid. So I've always kind of felt like we should be actively supportive of each other. Maybe I'm alone in that, I don't know, but I do feel we're in the same boat and if somebody gets disappointed, I'm going to feel bad for them no matter who it is.
hear things like "YOU MADE THE ELVES TALLER BECAUSE OF FENRI'S FANGIRLS!
What they can't romance him if he is an inch too short?!". See there i
lost it again [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie]
I know... but those people who blame Fengirls for a decision that happened long before we knew he existed--they really are the minority. The vocal, stupid minority. You can't let those people get you down. Otherwise you will catch yourself HERE:

As I have done many a time. ;)

It's hard, but every now and then you've just gotta tell yourself, "Pff. I can either waste my life trying to get idiots to stop being idiots, or I can go do something fun." And then go do the fun thing. *hugs*
Dr. Doctor wrote...

So according to a new interview
(stickied on forum page) our companions will have their own lives in
Kirkwall, and we'll see them around the city interacting with one
another. Where do you suppose we'd find Fenris?
I can't tell you how thrilled I was to read that part of Mike's interview--I had major fangasms. Hmm... it's definitely worth quoting for the sake of anybody who hasn't seen it yet:

...the companions aren’t hanging out at your camp. ... For this one what we’ve tried to do is give him the sense that your companions actually have their own space, their own role, their own kind of agendas in the city of Kirkwall. There are moments when you come into the bar and you’ll find one companion chatting with another. You start talking to them, and then they’re talking about something the two of them have done. Then they’re like, “Oh hey Hawke, how are you doing,” and one of them gets up and leaves and you continue on. It creates this dynamic between the companions that says these are people. They have friendships within their own group. They’ve gotten to know people through you. As the game progresses, as that decade plays out, they start to have their own rivalries and things like, “I did that favor for you like you asked” kind of stuff. And you’re like, “Wow, this is neat.” These feel like much more realized people simply because they have their own place and goals within the city.

I would like to proclaim "Wow, this is neat" to be the understatement of the CENTURY. I've been dreaming of that kind of interaction since freaking Daggerfall.

As to Fenris... I really don't know where he'd hang out. I wish we knew more about Kirkwall's layout. I would think he's a loner, but they develop over time, and maybe he'd actually get addicted to friendly company after what he went through. So he might even hang with Isabela and Varric at the tavern.
ankuu wrote...

Oh and Wynne, you did a good job on making Fenris look younger [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/w00t.png[/smilie]I like him withered also...he looks like he has experience, a story to tell.

ceruleancrescent wrote...
This is gorgeous, absolutely beautiful. I really like what you did there [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]
Thank you both. :) I really do like him either way, but he certainly is more earthy the way Bioware did him--you can tell that he's lived through things that shaped him.
Dr. Doctor wrote...

This is not to
say that I don't want Fenris to be and LI, I'm just saying that if I
choose not to romance him I'd be fine if he started a relationship with
another character.
I agree with that sentiment. If I've had him once, I might even think him with Bethany was sweet when I'm playing a Male Hawke or Lesbian Hawke. (And I'm already planning on both.)

But if I couldn't romance Fenris at all, and he always got together with some other character... that would be a hard sort of slap in the face, just because I haven't found a character this intriguing since... since I don't know when. Probably Gann-of-Dreams in MotB, seeing as he was one of my favorite romances ever.

And that was the same feeling, come to think of it... this feeling of, "I have no idea what this character is about... a hagspawn sounds like a really weird choice for a romance. But at the same time, their concept for him just sounds so cool that I can't wait to see what he's about." I feel essentially the same about Fenris. The lyrium veins and memory loss are weird, but I have a scientific mind. I love to explore what's out there. :)

I mean, there were hints of it in DA with the movement of eyes, but the improvements in DA2 are noticeable. :) The Sebastian Vael trailer with the dynamics going on there impressed me (especially the arrow through the paper and the reaction on the woman's face) not to mention the Isabela/Hawke scene and Fenris's famed table-slam. I can't wait to see it all play out in-game!

It would be nice to get a small morsel of information, and not just admonitions to not expect too much. That's a bit off putting....but with more info becomes more reasonable expectations. For instance, now we know a bit more about Varric and Isabella's humor. I assume they'll be more vocal companions, but I hope Fenris has a full vocal set as well. I know Sten seemed to have substantially fewer lines with my party members, and Shale and Ogren had no dialogue at all. Is Fenris more mute as a result of his personality? Or is his screentime comparative?

Correct. Shrieks come from elven broodmothers. Hurlocks come from human broodmothers. Ogres come from qunari broodmothers. Genlocks come from dwarven broodmothers.

Emisaries are just spellcasters-- in Origins, only Hurlocks (human) and oddly enough, Genlocks (dwarf).

My bad :pinched:I didn't pay much attention to darkspawn it seems. I was probably running around like a sissy trying to make them go away with the power of thought.

I checked the wiki page as well...and isn't it rather odd that from looking dwarfish/humanish not they look elfish? But this is off topic...
