You guys think Fenris had a co-conspirator that helped him escape? Living weapon or not, I imagine it would be difficult to get out from under the thumb of a magister, especially on one's own.

The blurb on the DAII page says he used his power to escape, kind of implying that he did it on his own. Or maybe the Magister wanted him to escape...

It does not explicitly imply that he escaped solely because of his own power. I'm sure he did a lot of the leg work, but someone of his unique attributes would probably be kept on a pretty short leash. Whether the magister knew of the full extent of his power is still up in the air, but I doubt they'd be so bold as to leave him under the watch of anyone other than seasoned guards. The guy is a magister for a reason, after all. And Fenris was probably being held in some sort of compound/tower/what-have-you making a solo jailbreak unlikely.

Perhaps there is a Tevinter Underground Railroad. Maybe the Free Marches is simply a point along the way and that's when he runs into Hawke and for some reason or another decides he's ran far enough.

I'm just stabbing in the dark here, of course, but I think it's an interesting theory.

I think the problem is that do not really know what "living weapon" means and he was ever "used" by the Magister. If he was meant to fight he could have had at least a small degree of freedom but with some way of controllling him to prevent his escape.

If he did have someone help him, I wonder if we get to meet them.

According to the Bioware Dragon Age lore:

The Summoning:
Has three key parts to it
  • The "Ali-Gaider" Horn:
  • The most powerful, yet non direct source of the ritual. Was stolen by MagneticDawn (meh! ;D) from The Sleeping Giant, The Grand Poobah (or otherwise known as David Gaider) while exploring the depths of the Bioware Dragon Age space in her boredom. While the horn bears no resemblense to an "alligator", MagneticDawn believes that if she names it this the invocation will become stronger, as in addition to just getting kicks out of the name. While the horn is  the most powerful, it cannot stand alone, two other amplyfing sources needed to be added to make it effective.
       2.  The Fen-girl Kiddie Pool of Tears
  • It is said when a Fen-girl Nymph is starved enough of fen-formation, their tears become magical in an attempt to summon Gaider, and/or to become the extra aiding agent in the Summoning process. The tears take an hour to fill the kiddie poo,l and when it's done is set out in the middle of the Horn magister's view or in a field where the Giant Gaider was last spotted. Currently, the stongest and best tears belong to Madam Rose Cryssm, or MRC for Short.
       3.  Beliveing/Belief
  • The most second most powerful agent aiding in the Summoning Process. The belief notion would have become the most powerful part of the ritual making so that it alone could summon him if the the Giant Gaider Himself didn't say to the main leader, Anna0_o, that her all her followers were "All crazy" thus hindering her belief in him and her ability to lead her troupe.
The Steps for the Summoning goes like this:
  • Magister/Keeper of The horn blows for the horn 5 seconds
  • The Leader of the Believers Gather's the the fen-girl troupe and the fen-girl nymphs into a chanting process exlaiming "I BELIEVE!" with the group's eyes tightly shut uttering these words.
  • The Fen-girl Nymphs Cry a kiddie pool of Magical Tears with the fen-formation boosting powers in front of the Horn Keeper
  • After an hour the pool fills up, and the body of the Giant Gaider begins to form. Both depending how bored his is and how powerfull the tears are, the body of Gaider takes up to 3-8 hours to form.
When the Body is Formed, a certian amount of non-reluctant fen-formation questions can be asked. On a bad day, or an irrelevant question, he's answers 1 question. The Average day, he answers On a Good day, he answers three times that amount, 4-6 questions to help feed the poor fen-girls' starvation.

When all is done, the pool is used up, and the girls return to normal until they feel starved again.

Dedicated to ankuu for helping me out with my lame computer problems. xD

Yeah, I like coloring shiny elbows and knees. =3  Its super fun.  Picture colored with the assumption that Fenris' white hair is a result of the Lyrium transfusion, though I decided to keep his chin tattoos (and make them green, like in the original concept art) just because. xD

He's a cutie.

Little did they know he'd grow up to be Darth Fenris.

It's very easy to build up a character (or a game) into something more wonderful than any character (or game) might be, but I think most people here are level-headed enough to know when their fantasy is out pacing reality.

I can't imagine why anyone would look at this thread and think expectations might be a bit high.  The hell you say.  :)

*Is guilty* Sorry.

But really, its mostly just fun for me. Reminds me of the discussions we had in my EngLit classes, no one could actually be right or wrong, it was just opinions and brainstorming.....Fun times.

Im still quite interested to see if there will be some sort of "trigger" for the Magister (in a possible encounter) to use against Fenris to turn him against the party...

The whole ex-slave thing is a red herring. Fenris was the magister the entire time.
