This is why I don't like analogies. I won't pretend to actually know the pyschology behind rape victims, but I'm going to guess rate of 'recovery' of any sort depends wholly on the person. The same with Fenris.
Of course, I don't know how it really works for my analogy or for Fenris - I'm simply suggesting that it's very possible he isn't over it and getting over it won't be easy or quick.
That would be a nice change from the normal progress of a Bioware relationship. Talk, kiss, sex, achievement. It feels a lot more real if you have to really work for just a small amount of contact, especially for someone who's been through something like Fenris has.
I think that in Fenris case, the ME 2 romance system can works. As in, you only consumate the relationship in the end. This way the player will see the relationship progressing really slowly until it comes to it's climax. Or course, same way it can be tiring to help someone to overcome a traumatic experience, I suppose some players will give up Fenris because they feel the romance is going too slow, if that's the case.
It's a matter of taste, I guess.
Well, I wouldn't say I want ME2 romances either. They were pretty short on the conversation. I mean how long before Garrus started on calibrations? Then you have your final scene, and it's like nothing ever happened on the final mission.
I liked how DA:O was working until the end. For instance, here's Alistair going on and on about how he loves me and would never hurt me and you know, all the romantic stuff. Then we get to the Landsmeet and it doesn't seem like the relationship is anything more than a crush. There's no trying to make things work, there's no trust in said loved one, there's no chance for any sort of reasoning. I mean if it were really that special of a relationship wouldn't you at least suggest ways to make things work out?
It just irked me. I think I got more pain from Alistair when I told him I was interested in someone else. Even the end if the player died was just kind of 'eh.' I mean you don't want him to start balling his eyes out but I think that scene could've been a lot more heart wrenching.
But then again part of the problem is that the DA timeline lasted only about a year, so in reality it only felt to me kind of like that honeymoon era love. I'm hoping now with ten years to work with it's an actual deep connection. Something where it's not just romantic to die for your love like what happens in so many love stories, but to actually live with them through the tough times, to know them on a deeper level, to want to make it work out no matter what happens.
Which is what I'm hoping will happen with them now having ten years to work with. Then again, I know this is a video game and I'm not expecting ten years of epic romance, but something that just doesn't focus on the happy first year of new love would be nice.
