@morningbird, Fenris is lying on the floor and attending by someone? What?

Sadly, it isn't, tankgirly. :(  If you watch the full clip, it's an old woman in a dress lying on the floor. xD  One could assume that a close relative of hers is the one attending her.

@MDS:  That's what I'm hoping, actually! =D

EDIT: Whoops, quoted myself instead of pressing the edit button, my bad!

Sure looks like Aveline to me, with M!Hawke and Carver to the left, and momma Hawke to the bottom. xD

Looks like Aveline to me, too.  I had taken this for a prison but on second look it could be a ship's hold?

Yeah, it's her for sure. Same clothes and hair.

They are poor refugees so maybe that's why they are sitting there under the deck...on the floor...or maybe there's a storm going on, since Hawke looks troubled.

That's what I thought. This could be their passage from Ferelden to the Free Marches.

*put the obasan glasses on and look closely* OH, the hairstyle is different, so it's not Fenris. (phew)

*Ponder*, who's ship is this? Isabela's The Siren's Call? I read on Wiki something's happening to the ship and caused it shipwreched. Is that when Fenris entered the scene?

@Evelane, perhaps that was Aveline's hair band? She does have one, you know.

I just realised. Mama Hawke must be very uncomfortable.

Anyway...

Maybe Fenris thought they were on a slaveship and attacked? Or the dock idea...Or maybe we meet Fenris at the docks, and then recruit him in the forest.

As in, Fenris is the 'thing that happens' to shipwreck the ship? xD  I would be infinately amused, but who knows?  I somehow think it's more likely that he's a stowaway on another ship that makes port at the same time as the refugee ship.

I'm guessing he's discovered when they dock, and chaos ensues when the pirates/sailors discover that an elf got passage between Tevinter and Kirkwall free of charge? xD

Anyway, maybe while they were on the boat, when they got to the docks, we meet Fenris?

If i remember right Mr. Gaider mentioned somewhere that Fenris wasnt one of the "essential" companions and you could completely miss him so i doubt that we would meet him after getting off the boat... unless i suppose you left the area without talking too him

I get the feeling that Fenris is going to find either a kindred spirit or rival in Aveline. Both of them have undergone great hardship in their lives. (I get the feeling that Wes' death isn't the only tragdy that Aveline has faced in her life)  How they go about dealing with what they've gone through is what separates them.

Fenris strikes me as being an "every-man-for-himself" sort of person, he's been through hell without the abillity to rely upon anyone but himself for protection. As a result he maintains the same philosophy when dealing with others, if you have a problem, deal with it yourself. He's being hunted and as such trust is something that Fenris has a short supply of.

Aveline on the other hand falls into the "we protect our own" school of thought. She's had people she's cared about die on her watch, and she'll be dammed if she lets anyone else go down if she has anything to say about it. To her, Kirkwall and its people were kind enough to give her a home and a new start after the Blight, so she'll protect the city as well as she can.

I see the two of them bashing heads.

This makes me wonder how conversations can play out between them and Hawke seeing as Hawke will always loose a sibling. I was kind of disappointed in DAO that I couldn't bring up my PC's losses more, especially as a human noble or as a dalish.

Fenris strikes me as a "every-man-for-himself" person too and someone who doesn't want to bother anyone else with his problem. It would be interesting if he had the same attitude towards others as well - 'don't bother me with your problems'.

Also the way you said the "dont bother me with your problems" reminds me of Valen's initial reaction to the pc in HotU

No one, it's a very confusing screenshot. xD

@Akako: Don't remember which thread it was in, but it's been confirmed that if you play a Mage, Bethany dies, and if you play a Rogue or Warrior, Carver dies. =(  I'll try and find a link for you, if no one else does.

I know. D:  I'm used to rolling a Rogue, so I was hoping I would get to have a playthrough with both without having to choose a different class. :(

but yeah, it was confirmed by Seb Hanlon in the What We Know So Far topic:

"The article is correct. You'll get Bethany if Hawke is a rogue or warrior (regardless of gender), and Carver if Hawke is a mage."

That would also mean Isabela is not a primary LI, since it was said that you can play the entire game without meeting her...or, I believe that's what someone once said.

Edit:  Morningbird beat me to it.

Akako, usually Dragon Age wiki will have quote source, you can find most of the cfm details there.

Yeah, and too be honest, I don't really believe in the whole 'primary' LI thing anyway.  To me, the idea that romances with Alistair and Morrigan are more meaningful/integral to the plot is a bit ridiculous.  Yes, they add depth to the story, and provide a new outlook on the plot, but so do romances with Leliana and Zevran for different reasons.

Whereas Alistair and Morrigan know that a Grey Warden entanglement with the Archdemon usually ends in death, Leliana and Zevran are unaware of what a Warden must sacrifice to end the Blight, and remain somewhat optimistic.  This, to me, makes their romances just as worthwhile/tragic as romances with Alistair and Morrigan can potentially be.  Plus, I believe all four characters to be fully fleshed out with amazingly done romances. ;)  But I'm getting off-topic.

While I'm hoping for a Fenris romance, I admit that, having not played the game, I don't know a whole lot about the character, and am therefore just looking forward to having LI's in general. =)  It's just difficult to look forward to Romances with 'Anders', Seb and Verric because 1) we don't even know if it's Anders yet 2) Seb is a DLC character, so I'm remaining cautiously pessimistic and 3) Verric is the narrator, so even though I'm looking forward to the possibility of a romance, I'm not entirely sure how it would play out, at this point.

Regardless, BioWare is very good at writing the romance sub-plots, so I'm certain that all romances will be written well, regardless as to whether or not the character can be missed. =)

I completely agree with you. On all points, actually.

I wish every party member was an LI, not because I think this should be some sort of dating sim, but because Bioware characters are so well written that a romance always adds just another layer to it. And the more layers, the better. I would love to get to know every single character in every way possible ;)

I think in theory since the romance isnt the "main" plot of the story and the game can be played without having a romance at all that there is no true "primary" LI

Completely agree, which is why I'm finding myself in such a pickle, at the moment.  Too many intruging characters, BioWare. ;)

@Akako: You are exactly right.
