I would be really disappointed if they took that route. So much potential there, would be kinda lame if they just went "Oh, he's actually incredibly well-adjusted and has no issues relating to his enslavement and torture. Oh, and if you kill this one guy for him it'd be really grand but no big."Pseudocognition wrote...
Anyone else wonder whether the fact that he doesn't yell in combat has something to do with the horrible torture? Less of a 'doesn't' and more of a 'can't'?
My mind goes dark places.
Then again I/this thread could be blowing the ordeal way out of proportion. Which is just as likely as not. "Burned into his flesh" seems rather dire, though. I do think we're overinflating the psychological consequences a bit, awesome though it would be to explore. Could be as simple as kill magister > Fen can chill > awesome.
I still hope you can hand him back over to the Magister. It'd be so horrible. I'd never play it but I'd watch it on youtube and cry.

I think why he doesn't name his weapon like varric.. because his sword isn't a custom weapon, like Alistair doesn't have one, you can just change it with whatever the sword is the strongest. In the first picture, that's a Chasind two-handed blade, I recognize it because I went through hell getting it in the wilds in origins with some crazy quest trail.. And the the second one, no markings, but there is that small bump thing, an black/purple outline on the sword and no funny marking or shape.
*was going to snip those piccie but could not bring myself to do so.*
Humph...you made a point there. Perhaps he wasn't allow a weapon as a slave?

I can't imagine ANY slave would be alouded a weapon, unless that is a fighter slave/ bodygaurd thing.. but even that would be a risk as they could use it agianst their master... >.<

Oh I agree. I'm not explaining it well. I meant that in order to get on that good ol' path to recovery, you'd need to get rid of the source of the problem. Which is probably the Magister. So instead of helping him explicitly with his psychological disturbances, eliminate the source of the problem. Hence kill magister > Fenris can possibly chill out or at least not have to worry about that problem any more > time for self-repair.
If it plays out that way, then you won't need to spend time being his shrink. Which would be great. Unless he's pondering his humanity/elfanity after suddenly qualifying as a 'weapon.' Which would be unbelievably interesting.

I actually wouldn't mind that route at all. To me, it's not lost character potential, but strength of character and metal fortitude.
Not everyone needs/wants someone to fix their problems/see them as damaged goods. Some people like to sort through their problems on their own, and simply appreciate the benefit of having a friend on hand that will stand by them IN THE EVENT that they can't handle something on their own... like a face-to-face confrontation with a Tevinter Magister.
I'm happy either way, but the more I ponder zen!Fenris, the more the idea appeals to me. I like the idea of him trying to keep his calm and work past his issues over constantly dwelling on them and needing patching up, but once again, we just don't know enough about the character.
I wouldn't be surprised if we were all wrong in our assumptions, by this point. xD

edit: i suppose it would make some sense for him appear if he was attempting to get his "weapon" back, but then would feel bit too much like Leliana's quest thingie.

I hope there's something more to Fenris than a revenge trip. I mean in terms of quests.

He almost looks charred or something. It's weird because in the group shot he's got the colorful outfit.
Maybe Mama Hawke fixes it. Or it gets toasted.

Well yeah, I don't want him to be a broken shell that Hawke has to nurse back to mental stability or anything. I just don't want it to be something that isn't explored or doesn't affect him. It also depends how long it's been since he was enslaved or whatever. There are just too many variables but it shouldn't just be like, two lines of a background story and not have any effect on him whatsoever in the present, IMO.Pseudocognition wrote...

They're just about identical except for coloration, armor and uh, floofiness of 'feathers'. So I assumed weathering or damage. IDK. Would like to knowww.

Now that you mention it, I do, too. I hope as the game progresses he will start wearing more brightly colored armor and clothing. Maybe even using it as a reflection to his state of mind as he works through his issues, which no doubt he will have.

I must admit, that hook had been bugging me for ages. It's something we are unlikely to get from the dev, though. More likely we might have to find out ourselves.....

Indeed. I assume these are major aspects of the character otherwise they wouldn't function for friendship/rivalry paths.tankgirly wrote...

The only one I can guess is that Aveline has something to do with the guards and Merrill with the Dalish, and even that's a shot in the dark.

Maybe we could change it like in ME2 after their loyalty missions, or get a new one after a while..
Wait, didn't I hear somewhere you couldn't change companion suits in dragon age 2?

Hawke: I can't believe what the Magister put you through, how did you survive without going mad?
Fenris: I didn't. For a time I was driven insane, by the pain, the anger. The lyrium transformed me from what I was before into a bloodthirsty killing machine. I struck down those who knew my master as the enemy without mercy, without remorse. It was like being held prisoner within my own body. Then somehow I forced out the rage, and I was free, albeit temporarily. After fleeing from my Master's homeland I ended up in Rivain. It is there that I learned the art of meditation from an old mystic of the Natural Order.
Hawke: You don't really seem like the meditating type Fen.
Fenris: The meditations that I was taught are not those that your fool Templars practice. What I practice is a means of taking the raw primal anger that exists within me, and turning it into a precise, measured force. In short it allows me to use my anger rather than letting it use me.
Hawke: Could you teach me to do this?
Fenris: Perhaps someday I will.
