It was indeed. That and giving an annoying, slightly insulting pep talk is something that I think Varric would do.

Now, to bring Fenris into the disccussion:

Fenris(Slams table) Dammit Aveline!

Aveline(Stands up) Watch it, elf, or-!

Hawke(Sticks head out from under table, looking like she just woke up) Whaz goin' on?

Fenris and Aveline: What the hell?!

:lol: this had me laughing out loud!

*is reminded by a certain scene in the movie 'Casanova', and therefore doesn't want to know what Hawke was doing under that table* :lol:

LOL, not exactly what I was thinking though.

I was thinking of (Disney) Sleeping Beauty. Am I the only one who remembers the random bard jester servant drinking out of his lute and passing out under the table?

=Edit=

Here at about a minute is when the lute is filled-- at about 1:10 is the passing out under the table.

Speaking of lutes, do you think that Fenris enjoys music at all, or is he more of a peace and quiet sort of guy?

Fenris: (covering ears) What in the name of the Maker is that sound?

Sebastian: (Holding bagpipes) There my pipes. I take it that you don't like that tune? I can play another one. (resumes playing suddenly a crossbow bolt flies out of nowhere and pierces the bagpipes, causing them to deflate with the sound of a dying cat)

Varric: Look Prince Stabbity, if I wanted to hear a nug in heat I'd still be living underground.

Fenris: (mouthing to Varric) Thank you.

Hello guys. Here's another small Fenris vignette I whipped up:

Mushrooms were Merrill's passion. She would go out into the wilderness beyond Kirkwall to examine and pick them. Some of the mushrooms were edible, so she reserved those for her soups. Some of the mushrooms were poisonous, so she reserved those for potion-making.

One day, while out picking mushrooms, Merrill heard a slight rustle, resonating somewhere from the treetops overhead. She looked upward, scanning the treetops above for signs of movement. Unable to detect anything out of the ordinary, she returned to picking mushrooms growing by the base of the tree before her.

Then, without warning, she felt a finger jab at her side.

“Aaahhhhhh!” The petrified elf dropped her mushroom-laden basket. Mushrooms were rolling in all directions in the forest around her. She turned around, to see Fenris gazing at her. She gasped and shielded her face with her arms.

“Hello, Merrill,” the silver-haired elf said.

“How- but- why,” Merrill stuttered, lowering her arms. “Where did you come from?”

“I can jump off treetops onto the ground without making a single sound,” Fenris replied, smiling slightly. He paused. “Hmm. That rhymes.”

Merrill clutched her chest, heaving. “You could have said hi...” she said in a small voice.

“If I were darkspawn, you would have already been dead. Your reaction time is a bit on the slow side,” Fenris said, motioning to Merrill's staff, which lay many meters away.

“Very well,” Merrill said, coughing slightly. “I'll keep that in mind next time. Thank you.”

“You should. See you back in town.” And so Fenris walked away, leaving an awestruck Merrill to recollect the bundles of mushrooms which she had dropped so carelessly in her fright.

^ Nice! Very very nice. I chuckled at Fenris's lil rhyme. :)

Sneak preview of a lil personal project I'm starting.

DA2 paper dolls. First victim: Fenris. For the hell of it. I just submitted two major projects and need one personal project to destress myself. Hopefully Fen will be done by the end of this week so I can start on Isabela and Varric.

This week's new Prompt:

1.Forgotten Song.

No Entries.

2.Snow.
Absafraginlootly wrote...

Prompt: Snow

The body just lay their, veiled respectfully beneath a cotton sheet. Miriam
watched as the snow fell over it and melted creating a ghostly image as the
sheet sank against her fallen companions face. She had no tears, empty of them,
as she was of feeling and thought, soulless, stationary. She stood there cold
and alone, no not alone, he was coming up behind her, she didn't need to turn
in order to know who it was she'd learned to recognize the sound of his steps.

Fenris.

He came and stood beside her and was silent. The silence
seemed worse when he was there and she finally couldn’t stand it anymore

“What do you want Fenris?” it came out harsher than she’d intended but she wasn’t
going to retract it now.

He stared at her for a moment. “When I first told about my past your hand moved towards me… why?”

She didn’t see the relevance and turned her eyes back to the body.

Eventually she replied “One of the ways most people give comfort is with touch, when you have no words, a hand or an embrace can show your intent where words fail.” Her voice as she described it was dull, uninterested. She stared at the slowly growing inch of snow that had settled on the body’s feet as she continued “I reached out because that was what I felt like I should do, I pulled back because I know you dislike touch.”

They were silent a little longer, and then Fenris gently reached out for her hand, at first she pulled away. An automatic reaction from having avoided him for so long, then she froze and stared at him in blank astonishment
as he firmly took her hand.

“It wasn’t you fault.” He said, holding her gaze with his. Her lip trembled; he didn’t need to specify, the grim evidence lay before them.

“It should have been me!” she gasped in surprise at her own pronouncement, almost unaware of how long she has been holding it in, and then she began to sob. Slowly feeling a slight shock at each touch he drew her into
his arms. It felt unusual, having her there, but to his surprise not unpleasant.

“No Hawke, it should never be you.”

Prompt: Snow
The snow crunched lightly underfoot as Fenris walked down the street, the cold biting into his feet. He had forgotten to acquire a cloak, and he shivered slightly in the frigid air.

It had been a long time since he been in Kirkwall, too long, and he was eager to see some familiar faces. The street he was walking down would lead him past the home of Tiffany Hawke, apostate and friend, and she was the first person he wanted to see.

As he drew near, he saw figures in the street, playing in the snow and laughing unreservedly. The bright red hair brought a smile to the ex-slave’s face as he recognised the Hawke siblings. It seemed that Tiffany was chasing a small child, no older than two years of age, also with… bright… red… hair…

The resemblance was obvious, frighteningly so, and the ease in which they acted around one another could not have been smoother.

He felt his heart lurch slightly in his chest as he noticed this, thought he could not explain why. True, she had expressed an interest in him before he had left, and he had felt a connection to her unlike any other, but neither of them had acted upon their feelings. And yet, seeing her with the child made his heart ache.

As if sensing his gaze, Hawke looked in his direction and waved at him enthusiastically. In an instant, she was running up to join him, sending white powder everywhere with every step. The smile on her face was as welcoming as it had always been, and in spite of the ache, he smiled in return.

“Fenris,” she called happily. “Welcome back.”

“Thank you, Hawke,” he replied quietly. “You seem well…”

He trailed off, looking behind her as the small child, now close enough for him realise it was a girl, poorly attempted to sneak up on them. He watched as Hawke instantly spun round and picked up the little girl, twirling her high in the air to elicit screams of delight from her before positioning the girl on her hip.

Again, Fenris felt the action stab at him, but he ignored it. He was fairly sure that he maintained a stoic expression when Hawke turned back to him with the child in her arms.

“Fenris, I’d like you to meet Bethany, my niece,” she introduced, turning to smile adoringly at the girl.

He stood rooted in surprise, unsure of how he should be feeling. Moments ago he had felt terrible, thinking that she had moved on, but now he was almost lightheaded with relief. Then, the meaning behind her words finally filtered into his head.

“You mean Carver…?” he trailed off again, uncertain of how to finish the question.

Hawke laughed good-naturedly, and nodded to him. The smile on her face widened.

“I know, I’ve known about this for the past two years, and I’m still struggling with the thought of my little brother being a father,” she stated, still laughing. “Who’d have thought, him and Avaline, huh?”

“Avaline?” Fenris asked in surprise, earning another nod from Hawke. “When did they-”

“Quite literally the night after you left,” she stated, interrupting him. “They –well, Avaline– practically announced that they were together that night at the tavern. She was quite sad that you weren’t there, but… I knew you didn’t want a fanfare when you left.”

“And I appreciated it,” he assured her. “Still, it seems like a lot has been going on since I left.”

“That happens when you’re away for a couple or three years,” she noted. “I can dump this little bundle of trouble onto her father, and we could go for a drink, if you like.”

“That does sound appealing,” he admitted, smiling at her.

“Shall we, then?” she asked, holding out her hand, gesturing for him to walk by her side.

He looked at her hand for a moment and then boldly slipped his own around hers, holding her fingers gently should pull her hand back. His palm tingled slightly at the contact, pleasurable, not painful. When she smiled in delight and squeezed his hand in response, the sensation went up his arm and he fought the urge to extend his own smile.

They silently walked back to the area outside Hawke’s home, where Carver was sitting, obviously wondering what was going on. The silence was enjoyable, with only the sound of their footsteps in the snow, for which Fenris was glad. He wasn’t sure if he would be able to form a coherent sentence if he were to speak.

“Fenris?” Hawke called quietly from his side. “I’m glad you’re back.”

He flashed her a wider smile and squeezed her fingers gently in response.

“So am I.”

‘She’s the only one who could
manage that.’ Fenris brooded as he walked up the stairs to a certain someone’s
room. ‘No one else did. Only her. Even I didn’t and I don’t even have
shoes!’ He finally reached his destination and opened the door to reveal a very
miserable looking Hawke.

She sniffled as she looked out the
winder with droopy eyes. He sat down beside her on the bed and offered her the
bowl of hot soup he had brought up with him. Instantly perking up, she gladly
accepted the bowl, grinning from ear to ear. Fenris smirked, amused that Hake,
though sick as a dog, still managed to be hear goofy self. And it was that
exact quality about the rogue that had gotten her into this mess.

He smiled to himself as he
remembered what had happened just yesterday.

“And just where are you going?”
Bethany asked her older sibling who had one hand on the door handle, ready to
leave.

The older Hawke turned around to
look at her sister and answered flatly, “Outside.”

“Why?” Bethany questioned.

“’Cause I want to go play in the
snow?” Hawke stated as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“You can’t go out in the snow dressed like that!”
Merrill exclaimed regarding Hawke’s casual clothing instead of the usual fur
and armor garb she normally wore. She raised a brow in questioning, obviously
not getting the hint. Merrill sighed and answered with, “You’ll catch a cold!”

Hawke scoffed and waved
Merrill’s concern away and turned around, opened the door and walked outside,
shouting “I’ll be fine!” as the door closed behind her.

Fenris peered outside the window
to see the “famed champion of Kirkwall” flop down in the snow and spread her
arms and legs to make a snow angel. He sighed to himself, “She’s insane…”

And yet, not 15 minutes later,
he found himself outside along with the rest of the group in the middle of a
massive snowball fight – training! Yes, training!…Hawke started it. Speaking of
Hawke…where was she?

Fenris glanced over his should
to find Hawke turned around sculpting…something? The group apparently seemed to
notice as well as all of them had dropped their snowballs and walked over to
Hawke’s attempt of a sculpture.

“What is that?” Varric
questioned at the awkward tower of snow with a face made of broken sticks and
leaves sticking upward from its shoulders.

“It’s Fenris!” Hawke announced
happily, grinning widely. The group stared at her with a deadpan expression.
“What?” She questioned.

“It looks nothing like him.”
Varric stated. “I mean…it looks terrible! Like a pile of -” he was cut off by a
dagger whizzing past his head. He looked up to meet the terrifying glare of an
enraged Hawke. Immediately he shut his mouth, stating nothing more.

“…I think it’s cute.” Aveline
stated, splitting the tension between Hawke and the dwarf.

Hawke snapped around to look at Aveline. “Really!?”
she asked grinned at Aveline, who nodded in return smiling at the sculpture.

“I think it’s rather cute as well.” Merrill smiled
at Hawke, causing her grin to widen.

“At the very least, it’s quite
amusing.” Isabela smirked and Bethany nodded in agreement.

“I could make ones of you guys
if you’d like.” Hawke suggested, smiling.

“NO!” everyone said in unison.

Fenris though, remained silent,
continuing to stare at the snow sculpture of himself…or what was at least supposed
to be a sculture of himself. As he stood musing over the awful sculpture that
Hawke had created, a small smile managed to grace his features.

“Helloooooo? You in there Fenny?”

Fenris was snapped out of his
thoughts by a pale hand waving in front of his face. “Sorry.” He apologized,
look down into his lap.

“What were you smiling about?”
Hawke questioned, finishing her soup.

Fenris shook his head, “Nothing…How
is it that you were the only one who managed to get sick?”

“I think Bethany cast a spell on me
when I nailed her in the face with that snowball.” Hawke grinned. She then
shook her head returning to the initial conversation, “So why were you
smiling?”

Fenris shook his head and chuckled
lowly, “Your ‘sculpture’.”

Embarrassed, Hawke looked down into
her lap. “Oh…” She was quiet for a moment before she spoke again. “So…what did
you think of it?” she asked, daring to peek up at his face.

Her face was pulled upwards by
gentle hands and she felt soft lips touch her own for a split second. Shocked,
she looked into the moss green eyes of the elf who smirked and replied, “I
loved it.”

Prompt: Fear

Role reversal with an emotionless Hawke as Fenris begs not to be left alone...again

------------------------------------------------------------------
lnicol1900 wrote...

Prompt: Fear
He could not understand her. No matter how hard he tried, and no matter which way he tried to look at it, he simply could not understand her. Fenris could not understand Hawke’s fascination with the Gallows.

He would shiver whenever he looked upon it, remembering his time as the magister’s slave and subject to the madman’s experiments. It was truly a symbol of oppression, and he could not understand why Kirkwall wouldn’t tear it down.

So, when he found Hawke leaning against wall and staring up at the Gallows, he found his curiosity and indignant anger towards her interest such a horrid building wouldn’t let him remain silent. So he approached her, intending to demand an explanation, when he saw something he did not expect.

“Hawke?” he called concernedly. “Are you alright?”

She looked at him, her eyes glistened with unshed tears, and she smiled at him. It was a forced smile, the one where you pretended that nothing was wrong... the one that everyone saw through.

“I’m fine,” she lied, her voice straining at the forced lightness. “Care to join me? This wall is a great place to get a tan.”

Taking the hint, Fenris joined her side and leant against the wall. He shifted slightly to get comfortable and then stilled. He forced himself to follow her gaze and stare up at the accursed building.

“I don’t understand why they don’t tear that place down,” he muttered distainfully.

“The slaves of the Imperium did,” Hawke stated. “They burnt it during the rebellion. The Chantry rebuilt it though.”

“Why?” Fenris asked curiously, turning his attention to Hawke. “What possible use could they have for rebuilding it?”

“It houses Kirkwall’s Circle of Magi,” she stated deadpan.

Stunned, he stared back at the Gallows. Now he understood her fascination. It was as much a symbol of oppression for her as it was for him. Only, she still had a reason to be uneasy about it.

“I’ve actually been in there,” she noted as casually as she could. “I was taking an artefact to the First Enchanter. I walked through, had a brief interview on the nature of my visit, took three steps in, and the doors slammed shut behind me.”

Fenris grimaced slightly, empathising with the feelings she must have felt at that moment.

“The Templars on duty said ‘It’s to keep the mages in’,” she continued, lost in the memory. “For a moment I thought they were including me. I feared that they had realised that I was an apostate, and I had walked straight into a trap, and I was never getting out again.”

“But you’re here,” Fenris noted, hoping to bring her back to a more positive attitude. “You were let out.”

“True,” she conceded. “I don’t ever want to go back in, Fenris. That places scares me. If I’m ever found out, they’ll take me back there and throw away the key… assuming they don’t kill me first.”

Hearing the fear in her voice, Fenris pushed himself off the wall and stood in front of her, blocking her view of the Gallows. He watched her blink in surprise and then focus on him with a desolate look.

“I won’t let that happen,” Fenris promised. “You stood by me against the magister, Hawke, and I will stand by you. If they try to take you away, I will fight them until there is no one left to come after you. You don’t have to be afraid of it, or them.”

Hawke stared at him in amazement for a moment, before ducking her head down to stare at the floor. She chuckled slightly and lifted her head to look at him again. Gratitude replaced the despair in her eyes and she smiled fully at him.

“That means a lot to me, Fenris,” she stated. “Thank you.”

“I think Varric and Isablea are in the tavern,” he noted, knowing that he didn’t need to respond to her thanks. “Shall we join them?”

“That’s sound like a damn good idea,” Hawke agreed.

With that, the duo walked towards the tavern, in the opposite direction of the Gallows. Neither looked back.

4.Fade.
Dr. Doctor wrote...

Prompt: Fade

(After noticing Fenris tossing and turning in his sleep Hawke heads into the Fade to see what's going on in his dreams)

Hawke: (Sees Fenris surrounded by Fade spirits) Maker's breath Fen, what have you been dreaming of?

Fenris: (yawns) Nothing in particular.

Hawke: Then why are you getting swarmed by spirits? (pushes aside a spirit that looks like a giant panda)

Fenris:
Its this thing that they do. They apparently like lyrium, and I'm well, covered in it, so most nights they flock to me like bears to honey.

Hawke: And this doesn't bother you?

Fenris:
(sighs) It isn't the most enjoyable thing in the world, but I've had worse things happen to me than being surrounded by spirits. By the way, what are you doing here?

Hawke: Well you were thrashing about in your sleep, I thought something was wrong. (notices Fenris looks like he is about to speak) I know that you can take care of yourself, but you know me, always in your business.

Fenris:
I'm sorry if I woke you.

Hawke: (sighs) I'm fine Fen, as long as you're alright.

Fenris:
(hugs Hawke) I am unharmed my dear, but for now let us get out of this place before the spirits start to get restless.

(Hawke and Fenris disappear from the Fade)

5.Twilight (no. Not that one).
Navaura wrote...

Twilight Prompt

~~~
Fenris and Lady Hawke leaned against the cave entrance, studying the dimming of light of orange and pink on the horizon.  There was an ever-constant comfortable silence between them.  It was at an end of such an adventurous day that the two of them reveled in each other’s company.  There was a mutual understanding between them when they ventured off together, away from the rowdy and stir-crazy group.
They just sat or stood together, winding down and quietly meditating to themselves, occasionally peeking at each other out the corner of their eyes (which caused Lady Hawke to smile, but Fenris' mouth would twitch and turn back to focus on his meditation; never did he smile back).
This had been going on for several months; and it wasn't just out on the road; when conversing with the others in the tavern grew too loud and annoying, one of them would make their way outside in the courtyard and settle when not long after, the other would wordlessly join beside them.  They brushed off the other’s snide comments and teasing with a sigh and an amused smile.
(Varric:  Why so secretive of your nightly rendezvous with our fair leader? (Nudge)
Isabela:  Aw, I think Elfy is shy!  You know we have tried on many attempts to spy on your ‘activities’ but failed due to your inhuman hearing.  Why do you two tell us to leave if you have nothing to hide?
Fenris shook his head and smirked.)
Or...
(Varric:  You can’t tell me when you stalk away into the darkness after him that nothing goes on!  You’re gone for hours!
Isabela:  I’ve seen how protective he is of you in battle. (Wink)
Merrill:  He never leaves your side.  It’s so cute!
Lady Hawke snorted and smiled to herself; a hint of a blush spread across her cheeks.)
On this particular twilight descending, Lady Hawke had closed her eyes and steadied her breathing: focusing on meditating.  She was like that for a while until she wanted to peek at her companion, who was a shoulder’s width away from her.  To her surprise, Fenris was already looking at her, arms crossed, with an expression she couldn’t quite pinpoint.  Lady Hawke’s eye caught the attention of his growing smile, which was illuminated by the diminishing sunset.  Her eyebrows raised in slight surprise at the sight before her.
Lady Hawke:  My, my, Fen.  Is that a smile I see etched upon your face?  Or did that mace blow to the head earlier knock me into an alternate universe?
Fenris’ smile grew, chuckling softly as he shook his head and turned his attention to the horizon.
Fenris:  If that were the case, my Lady, then wouldn’t that pirate have gone the entire day without making a sexual innuendo?
Lady Hawke smirked and giggled at his sarcastic remark.  It was so unlike him to respond to anyone’s snarky comment with another.
Lady Hawke:  It’s good to see you letting your hair down every once in a while, Fen.
Fenris turned to look at her with a blank expression.
Fenris:  My hair is always down.
Lady Hawke:  No, I mean…
Fenris’ sudden smirk made her realize he was joking.  Lady Hawke sighed dramatically and grinned deviously.
Lady Hawke:   Twice in a row.  I am baffled, my dear Fen.
Fenris shook his head and looked back at the horizon.  Lady Hawke noticed that for the rest of their  'rendezvous’ that evening, Fenris never stopped smiling.  And once, just one, Lady Hawke thought she noticed him blushing when they caught each other’s not-so-hidden sneaky glances.
Hmm....I have a good feeling about the 14th....a good Fenris-related feeling. I'm counting on there being some form of LI news on Valentine's Day, but I'm not opposed to the devs giving us a little info before then either :whistle:.
They released a couple more screenshots and the party seems to be the same: Izzie/Varric/Bethany/Aveline and now, Merrill. Why aren't they playing with Fenris? Maybe he gets recruited later in the game and the reporters didn't get him yet?
