Yeah and I'll be tempted to play it on Nightmare.. ugh. I just want to read the lore stuff without actually having to fight everything again.

I like the idea that lyrium contributed to the quickening of elves, there's certainly more going on than hand-holding with humans. The question is, can the elves regain their immortality? If they could, would they want to? Society has changed so much since the time of the Tevinter Imperium's glory days.

My argument is that Elves were immortal. They lost their immortality when they were quicken by the humans. I have supported this with codex entries.

Nobody has disputed this so why are you arguing it? What is the point of your argument? What are you trying to prove with this information?

Certainly the quickening began when humans started to associate with elves, this we know and we do not try to pretend that it didn't happen. However, we are making the point that humans alone may not have been the single cause of the quickening. Keep up with the conversation.

Yes but HOW did their lives quicken? If Dragon Age has taught me anything, its never to accept information on face value. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that the elves lost their immortality simply because they held hands with humans. There is something more to it, perhaps something darker.

They bred with humans, & because of proximity.

Imagine that a machine runs once a day for one hundred days.
Now imagine another machine that runs four times a day for twenty-five days.
The first machine then tries to keep pace with the second, ultimately running itself faster & shortening its lifespan

But it still doesn't explain how the elves became immortal in the first place.

My argument is that elves were never immortal. They just lived forever (shot)

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Heh, well there certainly are people in Thedas who don't believe elves were ever immortal.

I tend to lean towards the "Elves were always immortal until humans messed with them" camp.

The sun does not rise because the rooster crows.

Why do the elves have to be moral first? Could they not be immortal at creation?

Leonia42, I made my point look at the bottom of page 55, & try to keep up.

@Sabariel Hah.

@leonia42 I imagine the Dalish would be more than interested in recovering the secrets of immortality, unless for whatever reason they learned that the Arlathan's grim fate were tied to those very secrets.

This speculation is making my brain tie itself in knots.

How COULD elves become immortal? Is there some way of explaining it with the information available?

Edit: Actually, perhaps the secret to their immortality lies in what Zathrian was doing. He had entwined his very soul with an immortal spirit, thus could live forever until he chose to die.

Could the Arlathan elves have done the same?

GoA is my second most favourite Dragon Age DLC do date. Shale was the first. I played that game and started to ponder as soon as I saw those Harvesters ventured out at the end of the game, and it leads to my Amgarrak theory on Fenris.

EDIT. I remembered asaris in ME series saying something about the whole 'immortal' thing. Perhaps Elves just have longer lifespan, so to human, they are immortal.

EDIT 2: *reading Leonia's note below* HUH?

We're on page 56 now dude, we moved on from the "how did elves become immortal" to the "how did elves lose their immortality" and now you've brought us back to "how did elves become immortal" and confused people.

Yeah. That argument doesn't stand.

And going back to your idea about humans and quickening? Dwarves are also mortal, and in Witch Hunt, the warden discovers Arlathans were co existing with the Dwarves underground. If that is the case, why didn't the elves quicken with them?

You're just ignoring the things I post & posting a flippant counter-post & not reading what I have typed.

ELVES WERE QUICKENED BY PROXIMITY & BY BREEDING WITH HUMANS
ELVES NEVER GAINED IMMORTALITY, THEY WERE BORN WITH IT

We were talking about what kind of weapon style Fenris uses.

@kwintessa

That's a possibility. It would definitely explain the Tevinter / Arlathan / Ihavenoidea Mirrors. Perhaps by connecting with spirits beyond the fade, elves were able to tie their souls and therefore become ageless. And when the Tevinters tried it, all hell broke lose with the dark spawn.

Just a really really loose baseless idea of mine, but an interesting one.

Show me the entry. We don't know for sure that elves started out as immortals, even though that is the side of the debate I personally sit on I know I can't personally prove it. I doubt you can either. So don't throw around arguments you can't back up. You also totally dismissed my, and other posters', contrary opinion on how elves began to quicken. If you're not going to listen to OUR posts why should we listen to yours. Also we aren't really talking about what weapon Fernis' uses any more because Tankgirly quoted Gaider and proved he is a two-handed warrior. Next?

It is the only source of information about the (off) topic at hand.
& it more of a history book than a mythology book

I'm intrigued about what the mirrors lead to. From the surface, it just looks like the Tevinters used them for long-distance communication but obviously Witch-hunt proves there is more to them than that.

Please make a speculation thread about this. You have seriously derailed this thread.
