Calla is my good buddy, and I would hate to see her disappointed if Varric was cut. Seriously. So I'm really torn on it all. I want Fenris. I want Anders. Getting the two of them would oust Varric. Getting Varric in would oust one of mine. Bleh.



Would've been easier if they'd done 3/3, but with the Aveline thing, that's no longer a hope to grasp at.

I like the idea of Varric being an LI.

Now, on the Fenris front I don't think that he needs fixing, he's a stranger in a strange land who could use a friend. At first I just see a friendship between him and Hawke that changes into a relationship later on. Now what I want to know is what happens if the whole romance conflict thing goes on:

Hawke: Can't I have both of you?

Fenris: (Is shocked) I'm not sharing you with him that is just wrong.

Varric: As pretty as you are sweetheart, I'd rather shoot out my own eyes with Bianca than see elf-boy here naked.

Isabela: It's alright Hawke, I'm willing to share.

This is just about the best summary of this yet. We're only going to get two of three, and so it's easy for it to get all back-bitey. The fact is, Varric is the one I'm hoping gets cut ... but I've been crossing my fingers for him to be romanceable since moment one. I have irc logs of me squeeing to my friends about the possibility of a hot dwarf LI. I would be THRILLED if Varric were an LI. It's just that we only get 2/3 !

It's just easy for people to get wrapped up into the competition. When we say Fenris is our favourite, it's easy for other people to hear "and damn the one YOU like!" And vice versa. We should all be bonding over our love of fake men who would never look at us irl, not competing !

Also: re the shoes, they don't BOTHER me, but they do BAFFLE me. I'm curious what the design imperitive was for that ...

I don't see why everyone argues that they don't want Varric to be an LI because they want both Anders and Fenris. What about us, the people who want Varric? Can't we have him? If you have the option to romance one of your choices (as you have two), why can't we have the option to romance the one guy that he want to romance? It just strikes me as selfish, is all. Though I suppose people are all selfish by nature. It's just one of those things.

I'd rather it be one of mine, and Varric, tbh. There's too much of a fanbase for Varric to just let it drop like that. I'm hoping more for Fenris than Anders (and please don't kill me Anders fans) but either/or at this point. I tend to stick to one LI for most playthroughs anyway, and if I got Fenris, would probably never actually end up managing to finish a romance with Anders.

Happened in ME2. I wanted to try to romance Garrus or Jacob, I really did. But Thane. Damn him. I couldn't resist.

I will cry sad tears for either the Anders or Varric lovers if one is eliminated from the love interest pool. I know how sad I was when I heard I couldn't romance Kaidan in ME2 and I ended up romancing nobody, which left my Shepard sad and alone

Hum....I don't know why people think that the Varric fanbase would drop off if he wasn't a romance,  though.   The people that love him will still love him and continue working with him in fanfiction and art, so....  Though I agree, it'd probably be pretty painful to lose your first choice.  

Although since this is the Fenris thread,  I want to throw in my hat and hope that regardless if it's Varric or Anders for LI 1.... Fenris is the other option    His character design is just too cool, and getting to see various sides of him would be incredible, in my opinion.   That and David Gaider wrote him...there's that.  XD

Take heart! At least by keeping him out of 2, they can't pull the 'well he could've died so you don't get to see him again in 3!!11 hahaha' card. Not that I truly believe the people who say that none of 2's characters will be in 3, but just in case they do pull that, Kaidan and Ash are safe. And with them, the potential for a romance that spanned a lot of time and difficulties. Including death. Pretty epic stuff, right there.

I know it's pisspoor consolation for not having him in 2. When I went into 2, I wasn't really expecting to get to romance anyone either, because I wasn't sold on the alien-love thing. Siha broke me. My heart. It shattered. That one word.

Edit: and I don't think we're having a LI war. We're having a rather civil discussion on the topic, imo. I am finding it nice that it's gone so well. A calm laying out of rationales on all sides. Not like we have anything else to go on about yet. No more voice clips today.

I know. I just remember seeing my Shep after talking to Liara in her cabin from LOTSB. She just sat on the bed and said 'come back soon' despondently as Liara left. She looks so lonely  

I'm at least hoping to make my Hawke happy in Dragon Age 2. So it's killing some of the pain.

I only want Fenris at the moment, so I'm happy. I wasn't planning on having or wanting an elf LI in DA 2, but Fenris surprised me. And David wrote him. David doesn't disappoint me.

It will be interesting to see the other writers' (besides Sheryl) takes on writing romances. They haven't written romances before as far as I am aware.
