I personally don't care whether Fenris is bi or not, since I'm playing as a FemHawke. I would prefer straight, however.

I really, really want Emery as Fen's VA...his voice is swoon-worthy. But he's worked with Bioware before, and I think Gaider said the VA hadn't worked with them. Sigh...Posted Image

Let's move our puppy eyes and tears over to the live chat thread. As i said, Mike just can't resist. If we say that we would like Fenris in the party, he might consider doing it.

And Origins, as well.

So he really said the VA hasnt't done Bioware work before? I suppose that would make sense, considering Gaider's comment that this was a VA he was surprised he was able to get.

Probably not Mr. Emery after all, folks...

Edit: And in that facebook post he was most likely referring to ME 3 or TOR.

No. Gaider said he hadn't worked with the VA before, doesn't mean the VA hasn't done bioware work. I imagine Gaider only works with VAs who are specific to  important characters in the storyline. For the most part, Emery has only done small roles.

Ontop of that, Gaider has said before he wanted to work with Emery one day, after the fact Emery still had Bioware tacked on his resume.

The only David quotes I got concerning Fenris's VA are the following:

David Gaider wrote...

Fenris has an accent. It's a bit unusual, but I'm not going to say what
it is or you're likely to pinpoint his VA in about 30 seconds. And we
can't have that.

Ineffable Igor wrote...
I wonder if the guy who's voicing Fenris has been in any other well known RPGs

David Gaider wrote...
Yes, he has. But I'm not sure what that tells you

David Gaider wrote...
It's not a strong accent, but it's definitely an accent. Beyond
that, I'm not really going to give anymore hints. You may just have to
wait to hear him to find out

EDIT: There were others, but they pretty much said the same as the three quotes up top.

Okay sorry about that I thought he said he never worked with bioware before not that Gaider never worked with him personally. Well I hope you are right

The "has been in a well known RPG" is what I picked out while going through the thread. Final Fantasy 12 would count, yes?

Yeah I think FF12 counts as well known.

*just wants an LI confirmation*

*and a Fenris not being pscyhotic confirmation*

Ah, well in that case...!

How long ago did Gaider actually say he wanted to work with Emery, anyway? Was it before DA2 was announced?

Edit: Just tracked down some Gaider quotes from 2009 in this thread:
"He sounds interesting. The only voice I've heard lately where I immediately thought "Oooh! Romance guy!" was Gideon Emery."
"David Gaider, is this... almost a hint?" (from Lucy :D)
"Not at all. All I'm saying is when I heard his voice, I thought he
might make a good romance character -- for the future, perhaps."

:)

I'm talking about using an elf twice as the bisexual love interest. They migh try to avoid typecasting, avoid exactly the thing you said, "The whole idea that there's something intrinsically gay about an elf just bothers me."

But just acknowledge that there's "typecasting" there is what bothers me. It wouldn't matter if Fenris and Zevran were both elves. No one would say anything if they were both humans. Or maybe they would, I don't know, the amount of importance that people put on race is truly staggering, sometimes.

It's not that simple. The game itself emphasizes the amount of importance people place on race itself. Let me quote Hespith in origins: Humans, bland. Elves, exotic. Of course nobody would say anything if it were two humans because there are a lot more humans in the party (in Thedas for that matter) and therefor them being bisexual is a lot more common. There aren't so many Elves represented as npc's in the game, and if you make the two male ones, Zevran and Fenris, both bisexual love interests in the two games, then you risk the danger of typecasting, because they're representative, like it or not.

That being said, I'd be overjoyed if Fenris was a bi LI . I'm just speculating on the reason why BioWare might try to avoid that.

Gideon Emery's website also lists an example of his complete voice range, which is to say, incredibly impressive.

To talk about something other than Emery for a moment while our information is at a standstill, here -- do we know how far into the game it is before Fenris joins us? I always thought it hurt the characters in Origins you don't get until later, especially Zevran. I want to get into the character right away ... by the time Zevran came along, there wasn't room in my party on my heart.

Do we know anything about this?

Very talented indeed. And I'm always a sucker for darker voices..
