Fenris: What is this place?
Hawke: Not now Fenris.
Fenris: You are not yourself, clearly there is something about this place that upsets you, what is it?
Anders: What is it? What is it? I'll tell you what it is, this is where the Chantry keeps its pet Mages under lock and key, where they place us so that they can lie to the common folk of the horrors of magic. This is where they pen us up in the old slave's quarters and force us to finance their oppression of our bretheren! And I will not stand...(inhales deeply) Breathe Anders...breathe, can't have our lodger getting his dander up now can we?
Fenris: Wait, they keep mages here?
Hawke: Fenris, we'll talk later.
Fenris: There's something you're not telling me.
Merrill: (angrily) Fenris, we have other places to be right now, why do you have to be so nosy? Can't we just walk in peace?
Fenris: What is it about everyone today? Is it something I said?
Hawke: Look, we'll talk later, but right now, this...this place isn't safe. Not for us at least. There's Templars everywhere. When we get to the Hanged Man I'll tell you more.

Hawke: I'll give you fifty sovereigns for the elf.
Merchant: Fifty? That's robbery. Look at him, he's got highly detailed pinstriping, and he comes with the underglow option. Clearly an elf of this caliber is worth more along the lines of a hundred sovereigns.
Hawke: A hundred?! You can't be serious, does he at least come with a warranty?
Merchant: Lady, I'll ask you this. What will it take for me to sell you this fine elf today?
Hawke: How about a test drive? (Isabela snickers)
Fenris: I hate my life.
first four lines
Hawke: Or i could just kill you and be done with this ( hawke pull out one of her twin blades stabs the slaver and then pulls out the blade and throws it into the chest of one of the other slavers. Then the group kills the slaver)
Fenris: Don't pretend to work with slavers again Night.Please.
thats how i think it might go
(Templars and City Guard Appear)
City Guard Captain: Excuse me ma'am, you're going to have to come with us.
Hawke: But, huh, why?
CGC: You've committed murder in front of most of the baazar. Please come quietly and we'll see about getting you a solicitor
Hawke: But...he's a....what the??
Aveline: Go with them Hawke, we'll figure something out
(Several days pass, Scene fades to temporary gallows set up in Low Town)
Hangman: Do you have any last words?
Hawke: Don't kill anyone in plain sight unless they attack you first, then it's self defence; if you do kill someone first, take care of the witnesses; and above all, never ever EVER let your brother defend you in court!

It would take a lot of trust for him to be intimate with a mage at all, I imagine. Thinking about the dialogue you can have with Teagan about how it would take a brave man to marry a mage. You can forget because our PCs are just that awesome, but in the mage origin you saw that apprentice trying to cast a fireball and the instructor talking about injuries, and Alistair talking about the mental control that templar abilities take, and that's not even counting a blood mage's ability to control minds. If you'd been exploited by mages, it would hard to convince yourself that you weren't going to be manipulated by another one.dangereusegirl wrote...

When she first met him, she first noticed how he smelled. Not the musky scent of cologne that surrounded Varric. Not the smell of sweat, lyrium and demons that followed Anders. Fenris, she had noticed with a blush, smelled like forests, freedom...flowers. Not the most manly scent, but Faline Hawke had never liked so-called 'manly-men.' But then again, the mage was just odd like that. She distinctly remembered his smell; lavender, violets, and a hint of cinniamon.
They say the mind thinks crazy things under stress.
Her magic wasn't working, Maker, why wouldn't the wounds heal?!
Faline now knew just how true that was.
Carver grabbed her shoulders and tried to pull her away from him. Why?! Why was her brother doing this?! Did he want him to die?!
It was funny, how she thought of how he smelled.
"Faline. Stop. You'll get yourself addled, all that lyrium you're taking. He's gone."
Fenris didn't smell like freedom any more.
The lavenders, the violets, the cinniamon...it was all over-powered by the stench of death.
On his grave, she placed a bundle of lavenders and violets, sprinkling cinniamon over them.
Carver had quietly inquired if she'd gone mad.
Anders said it was because of her grief.
They never knew. She would never tell them.
Those flowers meant the world to her. She couldn't expect them too understand why. They wouldn't understand anyways.
She still remembered how that smell had wrapped around her that first night. It would never leave her memory; not until Fenris himself evaporated from her knowledge would she forget.
I know, it's all angsty. You likes? >

Valid point. The eternal optomist in me would like to think (or hope) that after a number of years in the presence of my mage Hawke, Fenris would eventually lower his guard. Realistically, this would take a lot longer than the ten years of the game, but fortunately we're playing a fantasy game.
I would love to see how that would play out.
