In response to Dr. Doctor's banter:

FemHawke: ... *Glares broodingly at a nearby tree; zaps the poor tree to flaming smithereens*

Rest of party: *Wide-eyed* ... er... *Blink-blink*

FemHawke: *Twists around, hands still glowing* Well? Are you coming or not?

Fenris Fenris...

The concept of this NPC seems familiar. He's story reminds me of F3 and that android who fled his...makers. Now they are out to get him.

But nevermind that. It sounds interesting in the long run. But I have to admit that his mangish, DMC even, facial apperance is...disturbing :) We dont need another Dante ;P

Another thing I was wondering how much is it catering to a specific group (male-female) or to gaming trends in general. Is BW creating with gamers or plot in mind? Do they focus on how certain groups will react to character? Or on characters which cause the reaction?

Better yet, I might assume large female portion of the SBN are in love already ;)

So tell me, dear ladies, which is more to your taste: low or high?

Fenris probably forgot how to have sex when he lost his memories. Lady Hawke will have to remind him.

Well, we've had that problem with Alistair so Fenris shouldn't be a problem!

@hangmans tree, hey, I know you. Your Desire Demon inspired me to do mine!

I know my lady Hawke would be more than happy that to help him relearn.

Also, off topic but, I'm really starting to hope Carver doesn't die, I've never had a little brother to torture before...

And to finish off my somewhat random post, anyone have any thoughts about how long Fenris has been a slave? I've been thinking about it as if he was enslaved when he was quite young, but any other theories?

Oh, and to Hangman (can I call you that?), I prefer Fenris, but I think I'd like option number 2 a bit more if he weren't an elf/werewolf/whatever has given him pointy ears. The ear turns me off for some reason, maybe it's just the angle? Though I wonder, is he bald under that head band? I do have a soft spot for bald men.

Oooh, good question.

I wonder if he was even a slave before the Magister did his lyrium-print voodoo.

If Fenris' namesake is related to the elven god of trickery I can imagine him having a pretty snarky personality. He strikes me as a Jack (from ME2) or an Anders-like:

Varric:
So, you can't remember anything about your life before that magister?

Fenris:
That's right, I suffer from short term memory loss, it runs in my family...or at least I think it does, who are you again?

Varric: (mutters) Lousy scatter-brained elf

Fenris: I may be forgetful but I can still hear you!

DO WANT.
Snarky humor between companions would will be hilarious. You know, if we are able to romance Fenris, I can see Carver being all awkward about his sister's relationships and Fenris waving him off.

Carver: So... you, and my sister...

Fenris: Your sister and I what?

Carver: I-I saw you. I stopped by her place a few days ago to drop off groceries, and the door was open... and––

Fenris: Oh, that was quite a sight, wasn't it? Almost scandalous. I've realized I'm good at those sort of things.

Carver: What?! I never said anything about watching––

Fenris: It was probably unsightly and traumatic to your virgin eyes.

Carver: Who ever said I was a virgin––

FemHawke: Oh, that might've been me. Sorry.

Carver: I hate you all.

I have a little bro in reality too and i just love to ****** him off :lol:So it will be a nice to have one in game as well...AT LAST!

@TheSquadette and Nyaore, Trolls. Nevermind them.

Right, I've forgotten that on this forum you have to either be a fan (girl/boy) or a troll. Since I'm over fourteen and just can't make myself go "oh my god, he's so handsome and has a tragic and mysterious past and is noble, even more so than Drizzt and Snape", I'll be the troll then.

Seriously though: where have I insulted anybody?

As for Fenris: The target group of BioWare is obviously changing, it's a wonder that Miley Cyrus isn't making the soundtrack. Well, I guess that this is a conscious choice, and they know where the money is, but mature players will move on to other, more mature rpgs like New Vegas or Witcher. It's a shame, I still have good memories of Baldur's Gate or Hordes of the Underdark. Then again, Mass Effect seems directed at older audiences, with the fan service not as obvious like this guy... It's a decent game, and much better written than DA, but it's a shooter, only with some RPG elements, so BW is getting more and more of a letdown with every game to me. But if they say that they can make more money by creating things like this guy, they probably know what they're doing.

I like HotU to bits (don't forget it had Valen. It's the main facter in every BW games, darling), I love Mass Effect and I adore Dragon Age. And as the matter of fact, I am definitely way over 14. BW haven't seized to amaze me since HotU. So I have my faith in them.

lol @ people who think Sephiroth invented white hair.

Yeah.

As to the rest of the issues with him, I think I would much rather wait and see what his actual personality is before judging him to be catering to some particular audience or other. Yes, I have Fenris sig. It was more because Calla (who made them) is a friend of mine, and I have a vague interest in him, rather than any rabid fangirling obsession. I know too little about this character to even remotely go fangirl.

But I do not think a few lines and white hair paint him as Sephy/Kadaj/etc incarnate, with an obvious target for that audience.

It may turn out that I can't stand his personality. It may turn out that he's very well written and developed despite 'Sephy' hair (which, as the post I quoted says, Sephy was hardly the one who 'invented' the white hair, anyway). In fact, he looks a great deal more like one of the FFXI Elvaan character models than Sephiroth, as I believe someone pointed out in the other MEG thread. I thought I'd dislike Alistair based on his early reveal info. He turned out to be one of my favorites. This is proof positive of how very little at least I can glean from so little information.

And also, where this high aversion to JRPGs comes from, I will never know. Some of them are actually decent. Why we must stick to east or west baffles me. I play JRPGs and WRPGs. Yay.

Why do I have this funny feeling that Fenny/Fenris/Francis/MEG's hair is closer to Clouds?

You've grossly mistaken a troll for something else.

I'd say you're quite a troll in this thread, provoking people and interrupting their discussions with ignorant posts. I hope you understand that you're judging a whole game based a character that has only two screenshots and a "three-line bio" out to view publicly.

You think Mass Effect has less obvious fanservice? With the random shots of Miranda's butt while you're talking about her sister and with the outfits every female character on your team wears (excluding a select few)?

I find it interesting that you seem to think fanservice for men is okay and even "mature", but as soon as women get some fanservice, people start talking about immaturity (and Justin Beiber/Miley Cyrus). Women are not children or young teens; I fail to see how the "squees" of the women here are somehow lesser/worse than the comments about how "hot"  female characters are. They both amount to about the same thing, and it's not as though it hurts anyone. So Bioware is trying to be equal with their fanservice--how is that bad? Do the handsome (virtual) men ruin your game?

For the record, I am not a "fangirl" by any stretch of the imagination. But I think fangirls have every right to be just as enthusiastic about characters as the fanboys do. (And I was lurking and this set me off, sorry.)

...and to be on topic: Where do you guys think Fenris will hang out in Kirkwall, since that functions as our "camp" area in DA2? I know there's not enough information about him or Kirkwall to make a very accurate guess, but I noticed that people seem to enjoy speculating in this thread. :)

I'll take it as a compliment. We really appear to be 14? That's great! I would never wanna grow old at heart. For the record i am 5 years past that line, i enjoyed games like Morrowind, Fable, ME, KOTOR and other ones but Dragon Age has had the biggest impact on me.

Even though i don't like Miley Cyrus as a person and i listen to other genres of music, we must admit that she kinda has a voice.

Oh and i am sure the average age mark is way above 14 as well. But only the devs can know exact statistics...

That is a good question, I was looking at the environment info the other day, I assume he lurks close to the house from outside or is actually in the house since having your companions nearby is useful, and having him be off in darktown/where ever when Hawke's off to save something/kill something would fail to be helpful in the end.

Possibly though, if mother Hawke doesn't die, she won't want pirate girl/schemey dwarf spy/glowing elf slave on the run in her house, so maybe they all hang out at an inn on the docks?

Well, from the screenshot it looks like he was on a ship. It's either they meet him on the ship (as per suggested in the past he might be a....what do you put it....cargo?)(Isabela's ship, perhaps?). So we can't rull out on that one yet, don't you think?:o

Its not like W-E RPG. In my case I see too many Visual Kei elements invading. They do not mix well in "classical"(if any can be called that) fantasy settings. That is my opinion. I have no aversion to jRPGs :)

I like the stylised characters to some degree, but they have to have background. I write about the subject in general, this does not mean I dislike Fenris based only by his haircut (or whatever). I will judge this NPC after playing the game.

For some reason, and I don't know why, but I envision Fenris as so pent up that he needs to release himself at the pub by drinking himself silly.

Fenris: I... I shayd to **** off. I'll... I'll kick your ash.

Hawke: Fen, you're talking to a wall.

Fenris: IT INSULTED MY MOTHER! The... the bashterd.

The nearest paddock where he can park his derpicorn and feed him rainbows all evening , of course.

Hmm... the idea of Fenny and Zev meeting somehow has been plaguing me for some time. I just need to figure out how, why, when and where.

Oh, I can totally see that. WITH DIALOGUE, OF COURSE.

Hawke: *Squints up at Fenris, who sits at the loftiest branch that can hold his weight* Fenris––what... why are you up there?

Fenris: *Doesn't even spare him/her a glance* Oh, you know. I was enjoying the magnificent view. And the quiet. Now I'm just annoyed.

Hawke: *Impatiently* Isn't that just dandy. C'mon, get down from there. We have work to do.

Fenris: Oh, I'll pass. I appreciate the friendly gesture, though––

Hawke: *Draws weapon* FENRIS, GET DOWN FROM THAT SODDING TREE OR I WILL LEVEL IT!

Fenris: *Sigh* Fine, fine. I'm coming.

Edit: LOL, derpicorn has been resurrected I see. But that brings me to your next point, Poison; how would Fenny and Zev cross each other's paths?

I think he will spend his time somewhere not too far away from the Hawke household.

this is just my personal speculation, but since all he remembers is being a slave, he may secretly feel insecure about being near other people since he wouldnt know how to communicate well from being with a slavemaster for so long.

Aww.

But I think I'd actually prefer it if Fenris spends his non-companion time by himself somewhere because it would mean Hawke has to track him down and they can have their little chit chats in private.
I always felt self-conscious having romantic conversations with Alistair or Zev when I felt like the entire party was eavesdropping.
