As long as FemHawke can have him, I'm happy. (would prefer straight tho)

If I can't have hime for some reason, this would happen once I meet Fen in-game:

Fenris: What are you staring at, human?

Hawke: *bursts into tears*

Fenris: Wh..what? What are you doing?

Hawke: *sobbing* I'm s-sorry. You're just s-so gorgeous and your voice is so sexy and I can't have you! *resumes sobbing*

Fenris: Er...

:D He's totally an LI. Not only is he apparently the only companion Gaider wrote (and Gaider has said he wrote a romance), but he's also quoted in 2009 as saying he would like to use Gideon Emery as the voice for a romance character one day. So I would bet my life savings on it! (Ignoring the fact that I have no life savings because I'm a spendthrift )

I think the only thing that's really up in the air at this point is whether he's a straight or bi romance.

You know, after Aveline being confirmed as not an LI, I thought my heart would crack into tiny little pieces, 'cause I was thinking, they seem kinda like kindred spirits... so if she's not romanceable, maybe he's not either. I had all but convinced myself that I should give up on hoping and just accept that Fenris would not be ours. But your essentially irrefutable logic has made me believe again. I... I need a moment. :crying:

Also your new avatar is just so cute with her facial expression! Geez, I adored you before, but now I want to like give you a freaking puppy or something, seriously. :D

D'aww, thank you! *feels totally shy now*

I agree. It should take time - if for no other reason that it would make it more meaningful.
Hopefully Hawke will be able to get his/her kicks elsewhere with NPCs
if desired, but a relationship with a companion should be deeper, and
develop over the course of the game.
I say should, perhaps I mean would be preferable to me.

This. Especially since the game spans ten years.

That's what I'm desperately hoping for. I don't want it to be one of
those things where everything is cool pretty early on... I want
tension, I want nail-biting, I want longing and pining and
gnawing. I actually hope that Anders gives Fenris a run for his money
in the awesome department. Right now I'm thinking it's gonna be Fenris
without question, but it will be interesting to have another apostate
mage around. If the issues are strong enough, it could go either way,
especially if Anders/Vengeance turns out even cooler in DA2 than he
was/they were in Awakening.

But either way, I want to be torn. I want to be drawn to both characters.

I'm already drawn to both characters.

As for the timespan thing, I too want the relationships, especially the romantic ones, to take lots of time. A sloooow burn, if you will. But I wouldn't want it to take the whole ten years for the 'hook up' to finally happen. I'd rather there be a couple of years of tension and/or longing, and then they're a couple throughout the last few years.

Haven't we pretty much debated to death everything reasonable? Everything from the height issue, the 'looks like Sephiroth/(insert other japanese character here) issue, the ongoing LI issue, even his potential lack of control of anger and/or powers.

In fact, I'm hoping for the LI confirm now, just so maybe we can have something new to talk about. We've been over the same few topics for nearly 650 pages. I don't know how much more any of us can really say on the topic, as we've all weighed in on them at least twice, I'm sure.

You can take this as a confirmation.

He sounds interesting. The only voice I've heard lately where I immediately thought "Oooh! Romance guy!" was Gideon Emery.

David Gaider, is this... almost a hint?

Not
at all. All I'm saying is when I heard his voice, I thought he might
make a good romance character -- for the future, perhaps.

This was back in 2009.

I can't believe I missed it...but man *fans self* Anyone else concerned that during all of Fen's cutscenes, you wont be able to focus on a word he says? I have a strong feeling that I will just be drooling at my TV the whole time

I'm going to make a quick-save before every convo with Fenris, so I can replay it a couple of times until I get what he is saying.. It's going to be a long game. xD

*raises her hand* Guilty. I was too busy swooning over his voice during the ten-sceond cutscene to listen to what he was saying.

I'm more afraid of somehow superimposing Balthier's personality onto Fenris than drooling. The voice is very nice, yes, but it's also very stuck in my head with Balthier's face. I'm worried that at first it's going to color my perception of Fenris into one more akin to what I had for Balthier. Who I adored, but still, Balthier is not Fenris, so the potential of that happening bothers me somewhat.

I'm sure after a short while the knee-jerk reaction will wear off, and it will be Fenris' personality I'm sticking on Balthier, the next time I go through FFXII.

I think that m/m romance should be written by a male writer. Even if writer is straight himself.

And Fenris in DA2 is the only companion who is written by the male - David himself. So I think that an elf can be bi.

I dunno, I'd get bored if we were always making long, logical posts of debate/discussion. I love that stuff, but sometimes I do want to just be a bit silly, too. Especially on days where my mood is already poor, and I'm feeling overly sensitive to what I perceive to be criticism. Days like that, I prefer more lighthearted, and less serious, conversations.

As nice as that would be, we'd probably scare off a lot of people. As much as I love Wynne's posts, when I first started reading this thread, I found their size slightly...intimidating.

I agree. It's nice to be logical once in awhile but life would be quite boring if everyone made absolute sense;).

Oh wow, I just heard his voice. Now I'm convinnced Fenris must be an LI. You don't give him THAT VOICE and then not make him an LI.

Another thing I hope for ... and this is for all romances: that they continue to be relevant and have content even after you've consummated the relationship. In DAO you could still talk to your LI, but it was like the relationship itself was stagnant. You could ask them back to your tent again, but really what was the point? You got to see the same kissing animation, which was sweet of course, but not much else.

I'm not suggesting they create multiple sex scenes (although I wouldn't complain if they did :P), or even that you can replay the sex scene in place of a fade to black 'join me in my tent' moment (although, again, I'd love it if you could :P), but that the relationship continues to grow, to develop and mature (possibly getting better, maybe even deteriorating depending on your choices and actions). I mean, seriously, how utterly awesome would that be? With the game taking place over the course of 10 years there's certainly scope for that to happen.

(Going to have to x-post this to the main 'Romances' thread now :D)

Yep yep!

And they were right about the game lengh...i think i will beat the game in more than 100 h. I'll have to replay the cutscenes with Fenris a couple of times to actually get what he says.

I hope they have things to say after the romance is consummated, as well. That has been my major issue with the romances in any of the games. Once it's done, there seems to be nothing left to talk about with the character in question. My hope is that with the ten year span, there will be more there to make it feel more like a relationship, and not just seem to drop off after sexy times.

Edit: Post length thing: I'm a forum RPer. I'm used to, and often write, walls of text. Just not in here, not often. If I talk about anything serious, I tend to keep it concise. Not everyone has the attention span (some for legitimate medical reasons) for my walls of text.

Oh, I'll know exactly what he says. Every single word will be filed in my memory banks for later anilization. I'll be able to replay every single conversation much like I can with Alistair. Tis the burden I must bare.

This, so very much this. The game spans 10 years so hopefully the romances will take some time to develop since the characters have years to get to know each other. A solid friendship before would be great. And I would definitely not say no to some tension along the way. I would also like for the relationship to continue after the 'big sex moment' and continue to develop after that point.

Sometimes, the small part of sanity I still retain surfaces and inquires 'Why are you so in love with him? He's only pixels on a screen.' Then I showed that small part of sanity the clip of Fenris talking.

That part of my mind stays quiet when I read this thread now. <3

Agreed, in Origins some romances felt 'finished' to me after the personal quest and the 'big sex moment'. It would be nice to have romance-connected things happening in the last (2) year(s). A lot can happen in 10 years I don't want to rush through a romance in (less than) a year.

I agree. That is one thing Zev had over Alistair. Once you slept with Alistair all you had was the Landsmeet and the Dark Ritual. However with Zev half his romance exists after you sleep with him. It would be silly if you slept with romance X on year X and from that point on the romance was over.

First, I appreciate the (relative) restraint used with the "squeees"

Second, I have to agree that his voice wasn't quite what I was expecting.  Im kind of ambivelent to it and thought that he would be more of a baritone than a bass (if using musical terms).  It feels a little too deep for the visual of the character (at least in my mind)
