I kind of wonder if Fenris "hot button" isnt mages, but instead slavery. I meant yes he could totally be like "A mage enslaved me so I hate mages" but it could also be "I was enslaved so I hate slavery all together". He may look at mages individually and judge them by who they are vs judging them soley on being mages. I don't really know, I guess it comes down to how bitter he is and if he can see that a "normal" person could have enslaved him just as easy. Though I suppose a "normal" person could't have branded him. It may be both idk, just my two cents.
Yeah, I could easily see it being both, and would explain why he's so tense all the time.
I mean, you're getting chased by some crazy mage because you're a very expensive project, and, meanwhile, getting constant derision from humans for being a (dangerous) elf, the dalish for being a "flat-ear," and having to travel with an apostate (either Hawke or Bethany) in order to stay alive.
I don't understand how he manages to keep that all bottled up under a stoic demeanor. I can't see that as being a very efficient method of dealing with it all.

Fenris' voice makes me want to hear him say,"Oh, you naughty girl." Though its very unlikely he'll say that but...the voice is just so perfect for it!
It's Poker Night at Varrics house. Most everyone is there. Fenris and Hawke have both long since quit the game
Hawke: You know, Fenris...Carver's passed out.
Fenris: -looks- Why, so he is.
Hawke: No one would notice if we just...slipped out. There's something I want to...show...you.
Fenris: -raises eyebrow- Oh?
Hawke: -whispers something into Fenris' ear-
Fenris: -with a grin- Oh, you naughty girl, you! What on Thedas is that?
Hawke: Antivan Milk Sandwich.
Fenris: Where exactly did you learn of such a depraved act? -notices Hawke's smirk- Nevermind dear, I don't want to know.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
((Best if read while listening to a sad song.
Goodbye - Secondhand Senerade
Near to You - A Fine Frenzy
^ Real tear jerkers ))
The Magister cast a wicked bolt of lightning, crackling like maniacal laughter. It shot out of the ornate staff, piercing through the air and hitting Fenris like an enraged bull. The willowy elf flew back, crashing into the wall. The lyrium in his veins only amplified the spell. Rose stood aghast. She drew her daggers in a fit of rage, charging the Magister, who stood grinning. The enemy lusted blood. He raised his staff, charging it with what looked like powerful bolts of arcane magic. Rose was too quick, however. She leaped into the air as graceful as an esther and jammed her daggers into the Magister's neck. Blood flew, painting the rogue with a scarlet mask.
And then it was over. The Magister sputtered a curse, dropping pathetically to his knees, and then to the floor. Dead. Rose grimaced at his mangled countenance. She ran to Fenris, crashing to the stoney ground on her knees. "Bethany!" She cried, gently shaking the elf. He was drenched in blood, near death. Fenris gasped for breath, a shudder going through his beaten body.
Bethany ran to her sister, kneeling beside her and placing a hand on Fenris' chest. "He's...He's gone now, sissy..." She whimpered. To try and heal him would be like trying to pass off fool's gold as genuine. Fenris reached a bloody hand up to gently caress Rose. "It's better...This way." He coughed. "I love you." Were the last words he muttered quiet enough for just Rose's ears. She burst into tears, her lips meeting his. His lips were urgent, but passionate. Their kiss was filled with such desire. Longing. He slipped out of her grasp, falling back to the blood drenched stone.
"Maker, please...!" She wailed, balling up her fists and slamming them into the ground. Everything that she ever wanted yet could never truely have. He wasn't her's to keep. He belonged to the Maker. Such a wonderful creation didn't belong in my hands. She thought as more tears blurred her vision. Bethany cried with her, cradling her older 'sissy.' Varric and Aveline solemnly stood a little ways away, mourning in silence.
Days later, the group returned to Kirkwall, trekking to Rose's small house with heavy steps. Little words were spoken. Aveline carried the body over her shoulder. She knew how it felt to lose your other half. Your love. Your everything. When they reached their destination, Rose dismissed her party and began to dig a grave. She continued to dig, even in the impending rain. It was done. She gazed into the deep grave, contemplating jumping in him and staying there with him. Forever. They would grow old together, as he always said they would. He always told her that even covered in blood, or barely recognizable due to wrinkles, he would love her. Unconditionally.
Forever.
Omg, you're making magic! Dreams do come true! ;D
I can seriously just imagine that in his voice now. (I'm praying to the Devs that Fenris has some perverted lines. It's a crime not to take advantage of that voice)
I'm thinking Fenris may come off as kind of cold and even mean spirited at first. His life up until he meets Hawke has been about survival and coping with trauma. Maybe relating to him on the rival path will be the way to help him since rivalry is about changing a companion's point of view. Friendship may just encourage him to embrace his identity as a weapon and actually do more harm than good.
That or the other way around would be my guess to.
That... almost made me cry.
On a different topic. I think Fenris will inhabit a morally grey area. Doing good things in not-so-good ways perhaps.
Hmm...I think it depends on your point of view. I mean, I see it this way; people are who they are, and attempting to change that goes against nature. If friendship is embracing him for who and what he is, and rivalry is an attempt to change who he is, then I personally would consider the Rivalry path as doing more harm then good, as you are attempting to change someone's being, going against their personal nature. But then again, that's just my opinion. And it all depends on how he's written.
On a different note;
If there's a set amount of conversations that you can have with each companion every year, I have a feeling that Fenris won't have much to say to me near the end of every year.
I so hope Fenris has a romantic side like that. ;^; I sincerely hope he has soft moments like that!...Hopefully not in death, that is! I'll be majorly upset if he dies. Like when Alistair breaks up with you if he is king and you aren't human >.> or choose the "I'll be queen" option.
