I bet Fenris is the guy that won't let you have the upper hand even in joking, playful situations. That's the only possibility I've been able to come up with that can connect his backstory with Balthier voice.
And that kind of person drives me NUTS. Argh. I'm going to love to hate him, if that's the case.
Hawke: "I WIN!"
Fenris: "WTF?! GO FISH SUCKS!" *Lyrium attacks cards and they melt in space*
+500 Rivalry.
Sounds like a real relationship man. real relationships with real consequences.
Varric: Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
Fenris: ARGH! *flips board in testosterone fueled rage*
Hawke: This is why we can't have nice things!
Hah! Hawke: This is why we can't have nice things!
Fenris then turns into FenHulk and terrorizes the village.

I keep getting Heathcliff, Male-Morrigan, Darcy vibe from Fenris. which is okay in my book, because my PCs are almost always typically aggressive, mean, and sarcastic. We are gonna be soooo snarky and hated in our party... Its nice to MAYBE have an LI option who agrees with "selfishness" and "jerkery" too, like how the boys did with Morrigan.
This forever. I love Heathcliff, but I love Darcy more, mostly for the fact that he's this stoic, standoffish, yet intensely vulnerable person. Fenris coming out with a "I do not have the talent of conversing easily with people I have never met before," sort of thing would be schweet.
You both have good taste and I concur. <3

The darker Fen gets, the darker my Lady!Hawke gets. In just a week, she'd gone from the light-hearted and sarcastic Isabela/Anders love child, to a broody, closed-off magette, with a dark, morbid, sarcastic sense of humor, who kills, does and saves what and who she wants, and by the Black City, anyone who stands in her way better know how to run. Oh, and she's also all angsty about the death of her baby sister.
You just defined my mage Hawkette.
My rogue is going to be nice, kind of sarcastic but sweet, Bethany's bff, and Anders' girl

Maybe I missed it but when was Fenris confirmed as a dark character? All I've heard was stoic.Deliciously-Demonic wrote...

Granted, DG didn't say "Fenris is extremely stoic guys." He said - I believe - that he was interested in writing a character who was more stoic than Valen Shadowbreath, and that character turned out to be Fenris.

Just a general point: Stoic and angst are not the same. If as concepts they had opposites, well, they'd be on different sides that's for sure. To the point that I'm almost certain it's near impossible to be stoic and angsty at the same time. One describes a sense of rising above such emotional hangups, the other is about a feeling of being moved in some way by them.

yep yep yep yep. yupperoni.
I never got angst vibe from him, but that didn't stop me from wanting to hold his hand two months ago and teach him basic arthmetic. I don't think that's a valid option anymore.

Back that up, please. What makes the idea of "dark Fenris" so very likely? I was always under the impression that stoic = philosophical / unemotional. Kind of like what Shorts said.Deliciously-Demonic wrote...

Yeah, I don't understand this myself, we keep running into discussions about people having to fix him etc. Whereas stoic implies the opposite to me.Upsettingshorts wrote...

It's possible, and Dave's picture of Spock provides an example of when a stoic character blows up and follows their emotions. That might require "fixing" in the Bioware companion sense. But that's not angsty or emo in the sense that the character needs to learn how to accept things and deal with them - a stoic person already has, it's about dealing with the loss of that control.
But that's just a hypothetical. There's no reason - yet - to suspect that if Fenris represents a stoic character in that sense that he'd ever lose control and his "issue" is something else.

Anyone else thinking that Fenris might be the mean-spirited? I don't think he's totally bad but maybe he just doesn't understand people, or life-or the value of it. And based on the certain edge to his voice...he seems to be of the brooding type. He could be the jerk Chris was speaking of-it fits.
And I'm liking him more and more every day. Dammit, am I some sort of sadistic fangirl now???

Fenris will always remain stoic, you'll just have to fight his alternate reality self that has a goatee.

He did run his hand through someone's chest cavity. I'm not sure many stoics do that for fun.
True, and Spock pulled out the violence from time to time too. Because it was reasonable given the situation to do so. We know nothing of the context of that particular scene.
A more interesting one is actually the unfortunately-overspammed table slam. He lookes pretty annoyed at the very least.
Which ultimately means nothing we don't already know: Fenris is basically a blank slate at this point as far as we really know.

A blank slate who is a super weapon and has the voice of a sky pirate.
I am so totally shallow and going to boink him. That's all I need for a green light.
