Though... At the same time he may not want help, or at least not right away. I could see Fenris' quests being ones potentially that you don't trigger. That the game will decide (perhaps after certain conversations, certain level, certain point in the plot) that the magister will appear.

Considering he doesn't know anyone (or anything?), I thought maybe he would bargain with Hawke for some semblance of security. If all I knew was hell and had just escaped from it and didn't know who could put me back there and how easily, I don't think I would just go along with the first person to be nice, especially if that person has well armed friends and a sword strapped to him/herself. Unless that person was willing to make a deal, or I was sure I could be rid of them without much trouble, I'd gtfo without so much as a "Hi my name is..."

What better way to show that you are trustworthy than to send the Magister or maybe some bounty hunters packing? At least for the time being. They can always come back, in droves.

^ yeah. It's stated he has no friends... (aww, snookums)

That would be logical he'd see Hawke, a fierce guardian (or whatever they will be by the time they meet) and want to gain protection from them.

Oooh! I do hope that his presence means we get to do some adventuring in Tevinter. To take back his honor and what have you. Unless, how he escapes involves you being in Tevinter at the time...?

That depends on how much information he has gathered, which depends on how recently he's escaped. If he just got free "yesterday" which is what I'd like to see or am at least guessing at, he'd be on the run, know of 0 trustworthy people or places, and would probably continue running if he saw Hawke and his/her little well dressed army carrying supremely awesome mook-annihilating equipment without knowing that they're the ones stomping out wretched hives all over Kirkwall, if that is what Hawke gets up to in DA2.

At least in that scenario you'd need a first encounter that causes him to stop and consider Hawke's company.

^ Yeah, I think his escape must have been recent to explain the lack of 'friends'. Either that, or he's been avoiding people in general for awhile.

Perhaps protection, but I can't see him requesting actively going after the magister. From his quote I think he be happy if they simply never returned but if they do then there will be hell to pay.

He encounters them battling an enemy? Sees their strength?

Wouldn't it be great if his old master was in love with him or something? Wanted to keep him for themselves... oh, that would be gold!

Happy dance time!

Depends on who runs into who I suppose.

Uh, that's creepy. That's a delightful amount of creepy, of course, but... still creepy.  Enslaving and dishing out physically and mentally altering torture with potentially permanent side effects onto someone would have to mean that that person is more "in need of medical assistance" than "in love."

Good motivation to slay that person, though.

I hope there's something in the game that explains why he survived the lyrium process or didn't go mad, because that was supposed to be the effect of it due to continuous exposure, I thought they said in the literature.

Exactly! It would be a great plot point, don't you think? Just imagine Hawke being like, "HANDS OFF MAH MAN" and it goes all Maury Povich style.

And anyway, of course it means they are mentally unstable, but to them it's love. That's the key point.

Ergh, that could be so angsty if he remembered whatever business his former master being in love with him entailed. If that happened, I hope he has no memory of that portion of his enslavement whatsoever. It'd also have to be a twisted sort of love if that magister was willing to put him through the torture of the lyrium injections.

- EDIT - Heh, Psuedo questioned the magister's sanity too

I wonder what the magister is like. I keep imagine him either as some aged powerhungry crazy wizard-type or as Edwin from BG. :-P

I'm guessing he or she either really did their research, or Fenris was not the first experiment.  It's likely to be explained away in some fashion since we did get to learn bits on how Shale became a golem.

It'd be uh interesting? But I would like the unspeakably awful torture to have as much distance as possible from anything LI related. It gets creepy. Assuming he remembers at some point, it's just got weird implications. Lots of weird implications. I guess I find something kind of unhealthy or unrealistic about "I love you forever and ever thanks for saving me from my horrible beyond all measure scenario/stalker!" Even if that is never said, implications would be there.

Why do you find that unhealthy? I am not sure what you are getting at... ?

I am not insinuating he'd fall in love with Hawke because they saved him... ?

Oh I know that's not what you said. I dunno. Just commenting on the general iffiness of a hypothetical LI plot that goes just friends > eliminate creepy "in love" magister > romance. I've officially lost track of my own thoughts on the subject now, lol.

Wait, why is everyone assuming that we're going to get a "push you up against the wall" type of LI? If I recall correctly, Gaider only mentioned that he'd LIKE to write one of those, not that we would see one in DA2. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I think it's more of a wish for a romance that involved a "push you up against a wall" LI then thinking that it's a sure thing.

Takes charge rather than waiting for the PC to make the first move, assuming that is what you're asking.

Pretty much, I think.

I'm not sure how they'd pull it off in a game without interrupts, though.

*headscratch*

Whatever floats your boats I guess. XD;

I don't know how that would work either, what if he or any other LI ninja-romanced Hawke and suddenly they had your PC horizontal? That would annoy a lot more people than just "I offer you a 'massage' y/n?" Though they are smoothing out the ninja romance thing... also the realistic thing is usually to ask before you get in someone's space in that manner. I appreciated it with the Origins characters.

Love interests being aggressive could be tricky to do. You don't want to sacrifice player freedom to do it.
