Meh i just couldn't go to sleep xD Been working on that video. I have the WAV file of that section, if anyone is interested in trying. For now i have:

Guy: [something] everyone [something] NOW!
*guard comes by, you can hear him coughing before he falls down*
Fenris: Your mean are dead, and your trap has failed, i suggest running back to your master while you can.
Guy: *seems angry and says something with "s" to Fenris*

You know (going back to this subject again), I watched that part again and I suddenly noticed that I interpreted this situation completely wrong. xD
I always thought he was telling that guy that his trap has failed, but it looks more like he is telling Hawke that his trap has failed, he is totally ignoring that other guy.. before punching his fist through his chest. >>'

@tankgirly, you are doing it on purpose aren't you, posting that picture all the time? :P

@MRC, it's about the extra in-game items. ;)

@Ramante

OK. I don't really care much then. Although I'm still totally doing the demo.

Interesting idea though-- Hawke set the trap then? Hmmm.... *Scheming*

I thought this too.  If you read the spoilers from the recent game informer article some of the information supports the possibility that Hawke was hired to hunt Fenris down.

I didn't say it was very exciting, but it's for the 1M goal reach for the items. Not a bad thing, I think. :)

EDIT: Indeed, I've watched again and now that you said this... yes, it's very probable that Fenris thought the trap was by Hawke. But it can be etheir right or just a coincidence that hawke is here, in the bad place, at the bad time.
Nice thing to think about... :)

That could be what happens. I can see Fenris assuming that Hawke and co are also a part of the trap.
I tend to think Fenris was talking to the merc, though (because I like the idea that he turned his back to the guy while dismissing him ). He probably overheard the merc yelling at Hawke earlier too so he would know they're not working together.

But he still assumes Hawke isn't a friend either, judging by the scowl he gives them after dealing with the merc. The only reason he probably isn't attacking Hawke outright is because Hawke is nothing like the typical thugs hired to come after him, so he's not sure (but ready for a fight nonetheless).

I agree with your both. I've mentioned it before (many pages ago) that I thought Fenris walked/talked more in Hawke & co's direction in the video. I had a theory Hawke got somewhat tricked into hunting Fen down, not nowing every detail about him.

Do you guys think that Hawke even know Fen is a former slave when they meet?

Hawke probably will have no idea. Probably we'll be told, "Track this guy down. He's a major threat." And that was all. No other side of the story until we've found Fenris.

Here is the link to the thread.  The article isn't online, its just been summarized.  I'll warn you it is very spoiler heavy.  Fenris also isn't mentioned directly, so if you are trying to avoid any other details about the game I don't advise looking at it.

Well that would explain why Fenris is not looking at the merc at all and instead he looks at Hawke. Besides Hawkie is working for mercenaries, and as i said before, he might have been sent to track Fenris down and get the money he owns them for the room and the Hanged man or something. It's dark, it's Lowtown! :wizard:Dangerous place to be.

But still, that guy seems quite angry, mostly at the beginning. And i don't know if Fenris would kill someone that doesn't threaten him. Not really because he cares but because "it's not worth the effort". That guy seems weak...

I don't know.. maybe the one who hired Hawke set the trap and told Hawke to check if Fenris fell for it -> that way that master wouldn't lose one of his valuable workers. maybe he considered Hawke expendable.
Just speculating here, but to me it really looks like he is talking to Hawke and the line he says after the phase-punch could be something like 'you really think I would fall for your trap'. I just don't get the entire scene, what is Hawke supposed to say when someone does that? x"D

Oy wait! Varric has a cutscene where he says something along the lines of "And thus ended the Champion's first year in Kirkwall, settling his debts with the mercenaries, THAT'S WHEN I FIRST MET THE CHAMPION". Varric is in the party when we meet Fenris, so Hawke already dealt with the mercenaries...My theory was wrong ><

Mmmm, indeed if he means that meeting Varric ends the first year. Too bad, it would have been interesting.

One of the previews also mentioned that Varric skips the first year, so maybe your timeline theory isn't wrong. Maybe Hawke still takes mercenary jobs in the following years and he uses the first year as a 'step up' -> showing what (s)he can do so in the following years (s)he gets tougher challenges (hunting Fenris, seems kinda dangerous :P)

That context of how it is said suggests Hawke is settling his/her debts with the mercs when Varric firsts meets him/her. It's not, "And thus ended the Champion's first year in Kirkwall, his/her debts settled with the mercenaries."

Hmmm...really? I think Saibh wrote in the 5 hour thread that Varric meets you when you start to gain popularity, when you become known around Kirkwall. So you could be known for your bad acts, for the services you did for the mercenaries. When you meet Varric, it seems that the goal is the expedition to the Deep Roads.

Edit: Opps i wrote the quote wrong? Bah i have a bad memory ^^""

This. It was my understanding that Hawke meets Varric during her/his first year in Kirkwall and that the cutscene goes along the lines of "and thus began the Champions's first year..."

You're right. I just listened to the dev diary again, and Varric says that it's the begining of Hawke's first year, not the end.

So ankuu, your theory may yet be right. It could be that Fenris mistakes us as the mastermind and not some lackey who has, so far, been lucky enough not to get phase-punched.

I like that theory.

A blackened ancient sword lying amidst the chained and twisted bones of elves who were thrown into the depths when the magisters had drained them of everything, blood, sanity and finally their very lives.

Only one survived the fall, crippled and broken he dragged himself to this place and found an ancient dwarven forge where the lyrium light burned bright and with the tools of the lost he crafted a sword with which to strike back at his masters, but the lyrium was too strong and he ended his days quenching the blade in the blood that poured from his every orifice and merged with the hot lyrium folded iron.

Yet the sword had awoken with its creators death and knew only his terrible hunger for revenge and so it called out for a weilder through the echoing halls of the underworld until the very dead of the elven slain arose to answer its call, one by one they came a procession of ghostly slaves still bearing on their phantom limbs the scars and mutilations they had suffered in life and into the blade they poured their hatred, their rage and their limitless thirst for vengeance against the imperium.

And as Fenris and Anders first step foot into the murk of the darktown they hear its call and know that a weapon lies here that even the Archons would fear in their high towers in Minrathous.

Posted this in another thread, be nice if the silver wolf of Tevinter got some kind of signature weapon that synergised with his lyrium vallaslin.

Hmm...since my hopes for finding Fenris in a cage and having to kill tons of bounty hunters and him having a snazzy remark if you're a mage has been crushed (D:), I'm saying that your group has been hired to help some other mercs hunt down a runaway slave (Fenris!), so they go to the place where the rumors state he was last seen (because he doesn't exactly strive to stay hidden, now does he...cocky bastard. >_>) and set a trap...but it fails, and the group Hawke and Co. teamed with was slaughtered. Cue Fenris swaggering in, stating the obvious but giving the leader a chance to run. Dude grabs his shoulder 'n is all 'you're coming with me!' and then POW! Fen phase-punches him, then turns to Hawke and goes, 'Who the hell are you?'
