Hmm...since my hopes for finding Fenris in a cage and having to kill tons of bounty hunters and him having a snazzy remark if you're a mage has been crushed (D:), I'm saying that your group has been hired to help some other mercs hunt down a runaway slave (Fenris!), so they go to the place where the rumors state he was last seen (because he doesn't exactly strive to stay hidden, now does he...cocky bastard. >_>) and set a trap...but it fails, and the group Hawke and Co. teamed with was slaughtered. Cue Fenris swaggering in, stating the obvious but giving the leader a chance to run. Dude grabs his shoulder 'n is all 'you're coming with me!' and then POW! Fen phase-punches him, then turns to Hawke and goes, 'Who the hell are you?'

This.

I think it'd be more like dirtsa said earlier - they probably wouldn't say "Go hunt down a runaway slave" but rather something more like "Go hunt down this very dangerous elf" or something misleading.
And it's not simply because the mercs in the story would want to trick Hawke. I was also thinking that a job to track down a "runaway slave" might be too easy to accidentally turn down - what I mean by that is people who play the game (and have no idea who Fenris is) might instinctively refuse to take the job because they don't want to help bad guys catch a slave. If that were the case they'd miss out on recruiting Fenris and have no idea. :o

True, true.

Merc: Hey, listen, you're mercenaries, right? We have a job we're doing, but we need a bit of help.
Hawke: -narrows eyes warily- What kind of job?
Merc: It's...ah...chasing down this elf. Apparently he's really dangerous, he's killed five parties of mercs in the past month!
Hawke: Sheesh. You'd think after two or three times, they'd give up.
Merc: They don't because this job pays really well. Some chap out in the Imperium is contracting it.
Hawke: Well, if he's really killed as many people as you say, we had better get him locked down before he moves onto to innocents.
Merc: -nod- Thanks. Here's everything we know about him...

:P

The German video shows Hawke and Co. fighting Tevinter hunters in the city, a while before the Fenris cutscene. It's possibly out of sequence but Fenris isn't in the party. That makes me doubt if they've been hired to get Fenris unless another party has hired them.

I love the theories everyone's cooking up! It'll be completely different from what I imagined, but so much better in the end. I think it'll add to the drama in the beginning of their relationship because how does Fenris really know he can trust this human? Simple, he can't. Not yet, anyway.

Oh goodness, my brain is thinking of so many possible scenarios now. I love you people.

Yup, honestly if Hawke did get a job like tracking someone, I doubt they'd use the term "runaway slave" too... but in a sense, even though I didn't know who Fenris was, I'd be tempted to accept the job and then plan to help the say-slave to escape. Just for fun. :) And we know what happens next. (just not what Hawke says to have Fenris in the group)

I have returned... and id like too help catch the runaway slave but i think itd be more fun if Hawke was trying too run the hunters out of the city (and subsequently Fenris) and accidentally comes upon the scene in the vid and has this WTF moment....

Also working on the kissing in the rain peice... doing okay >.>

Hmm, I'm imagining perhaps a Garrus in ME2 scene. You pretend to side with the merceneries after him but instead fight against them, so when you come to meet Fenris the only reason he doesn't attack you because you've been working with him, and he wants to know why.

Imo 'THE STANCE' and Head Tilt ™ seem like a "Wtf are you doing?" gesture more than a confrontational gesture. Otherwise it''d be more of a battle-ready pose.

Hey guys, I have a question, sorry if it was said before, or it is something to discover at play, but, just in case:

Why Fenris joins to the Hawke's party?

I mean, Carver/Bethany are family, Varric is the storyteller, i'm also not sure about Anders, Aveline and Isabella, but this isn't their thread... but what is the motivation of Fenris?

A blackened ancient sword lying amidst the chained and twisted bones of elves who were thrown into the depths when the magisters had drained them of everything, blood, sanity and finally their very lives.
Only one survived the fall, crippled and broken he dragged himself to this place and found an ancient dwarven forge where the lyrium light burned bright and with the tools of the lost he crafted a sword with which to strike back at his masters, but the lyrium was too strong and he ended his days quenching the blade in the blood that poured from his every orifice and merged with the hot lyrium folded iron.
Yet the sword had awoken with its creators death and knew only his terrible hunger for revenge and so it called out for a weilder through the echoing halls of the underworld until the very dead of the elven slain arose to answer its call, one by one they came a procession of ghostly slaves still bearing on their phantom limbs the scars and mutilations they had suffered in life and into the blade they poured their hatred, their rage and their limitless thirst for vengeance against the imperium.
And as Fenris and Anders first step foot into the murk of the darktown they hear its call and know that a weapon lies here that even the Archons would fear in their high towers in Minrathous.

Posted this in another thread, be nice if the silver wolf of Tevinter got some kind of signature weapon that synergised with his lyrium vallaslin.

Nice and dark story.

And I love the name you've given Fen: "The Silver Wolf of Tevinter" B)

EDIT: I agree, it would be nice if he got a signature weapon, but I think it's only Varric who will have one.

Exactly, it could work that way too, but that wouldn't be a good idea from Bioware to take exactly the same idea, even if Fenris doesn't know who you are, unlike good old great sweet loving Garrus<3More twists and such could work, however, than just doing a Garrus bis.

EDIT: @jenaisa: No idea, we'll find out when we play the game I guess.

About special weapon, remember that the reward for the demo is a 2-handed sword. I know who will be happy to get it, I think... ^^

Ser Gaider said that Fenris has a 'hook', but that it is also possible to play the game without ever meeting him (just like Isabela). I'm not sure why I am saying this... >>'

To answer your question, maybe Hawke can help him deal with the magister or protect him, maybe Fenris thinks Hawke is cute or maybe Hawke asks Fenris to join him/her because Fenris seems useful.. conclusion. I don't know. ;p

Bioware called this 'Romance Week,' yes? Well, I'm not going to believe it until we see more romance pictures. P:< I want to see more 'tender;romantic' then 'sexehtiemz' pictures. That will make me happy and mushy. Fenris Confession piccies plz and thanks!

Anyways, maybe Fenris sees joining Hawke's party as a way to be safe from the others hunting him? He did seem to be tired of running in the mini-story we got when he was revealed as an LI.

How about the Zevran - joining : You are questing, you come across this elf assaulting some band of innocent mercs (heh), you come to blows, you overpower him and/or you just talk it out and he comes along with you.

I both want and don't want to see more pics, as it would spoil the pleasure of discovering the romance. :D

Yeah, maybe... but then he'd have to trust Hawke. Somehow, I doubt he decided to join for the heck of it. Hawke will probably have to gain his trust first.

EDIT: @Muhu: I thought about that too, but I doubt it too, I can't see his past as slave and escape matching with this theory .

Maybe that's just our FIRST meeting with Fenris, but it's NOT when we get him to join the party! :D Maybe we keep getting caught up in jobs that involve him, and eventually we prove ourselves trustworthy enough that he decides to join?

Or maybe he's like Bishop, and he joins us temporarily to do one mission, then decides to stick around afterwards (much to the chagrin of the others in the party as he's so obviously and arrogant douche.  THAT I LOVE!!!!!)

Meh i just couldn't go to sleep xD Been working on that video. I have the WAV file of that section, if anyone is interested in trying. For now i have:

Guy: [something] everyone [something] NOW!
*guard comes by, you can hear him coughing before he falls down*
Fenris: Your mean are dead, and your trap has failed, i suggest running back to your master while you can.
Guy: *seems angry and says something with "s" to Fenris*

You know (going back to this subject again), I watched that part again and I suddenly noticed that I interpreted this situation completely wrong. xD
I always thought he was telling that guy that his trap has failed, but it looks more like he is telling Hawke that his trap has failed, he is totally ignoring that other guy.. before punching his fist through his chest. >>'

@tankgirly, you are doing it on purpose aren't you, posting that picture all the time? :P

@MRC, it's about the extra in-game items. ;)

What? Moi?

Thanks all.

Mm, then, if there is not an official answer, I think helping each other seems like possibly.

Although I don't think the joining's gonna be that simply, Like in Origins.

I'm confusing about how all the things will works through TEN years, it's too different from Origins to compare. Will be the companions together all over the years? I dunno. Or maybe Fenris will hear about Hawke (when she/he gets some fame) and search for her/his help.

And what is it about end the game without recruiting to Fenris?! (and Isabella) o_o I hope this is an option for the player. I don't wanna lose him (them) by accident
