You could always buy it, do the 1st playthrough solo, then use it. That's my plan of action.

Hmm... I'm getting the strategy guide, if you want I can look it up for you. I can send you a pm with 'take this quest in this year etc' to get Fenris. That way you don't have to run around searching for him at the wrong time/place.

Aww,you're so kind! thank you so much!
I'd like that, if don't cause you any trouble, of course! Don't be in a hurry for me, I'll wait until you want to look it up for you too ^_^

Same here. He is the one character i don't wanna miss. I don't mind fumbling around through the first playthrough, but I gotta have my Fenris! Posted Image

I plan on web searching for the info on getting him. Posted Image

Actually, I read somewhere that the scars or whatever you call them do give Fenris pain. People were talking about touching Fenris (aren't they always?) and David Gaider said that if you ventured to touch Fenris, he'd most likely recoil. Mostly because he wouldn't expect you to touch him, but also because his scar thingies are somewhat painful. I got the impression it wasn't that bad, though. Not the kind of agony that would prevent you from doing dirty deeds. Posted Image

Maybe this has been changed and he is now painfree?

Sadly, I have no idea where to find this post, so I can only go by memory.

I think I'll find him on my own. I don't want to risk any spoilers and I'm sure Bioware isn't hiding him:p.

It looks like you meet him at night and maybe we'll hear rumours from townspeople about places and people of interest. Like overhearing someone gossip about a strange elf staying in x part of town. In Isabela's case I got the impression the PC heard from someone about a pirate woman staying in that inn.

Me too. I always have to explore the whole map of an area and go inside every building I can find so I don't miss anything. It took a somewhat bad turn during Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights where I "had" to discover the whole map and not leave any black left on it..

As for being addicted... uh, maybe Tevinter has fancy ways of making one immune. Managing addiction is not something I enjoy in games. *glares at Bethesda*

Yeah, you know I've been replaying Oblivion recently, and vampirism is great if you have a power complex, but otherwise it's incredibly irritating.

When I originally played Dragon Age: Origins, I spent most of the Brecilian Forest section terrified that I'd be infected with lycanthropy, because, again, Bethesda has ruined me in terms of being paranoid about getting a disease in game. In retrospect, it would've been a cool idea-have the person who you've actively gotten the most Approval with get bitten in a cutscene, and then you have to rush to try and deal with Witherfang in order to end the disease before it properly sets in and you spend one night out of every month with two dogs in your camp. I don't know, it could've upped the ante of that quest, which I run through on autopilot now.

In regards to lyrium-I'm not sure I entirely understand the nature of it, to be honest. I assumed it was a kind of soft metal. Addiction, as I understand it (I'm showing my ignorance here), doesn't that usually require ingestion/inhalation? That's why I assumed it had to be a potion, so that people could take it, experience the high, as it were, and then they get addicted. I'll admit the dwarf sections were always my least favourite (just thinking about the Deep Roads gives this claustrophobic gamer the willies), and so I actively sought out to learn as little about them as possible, since I became deeply uncomfortable every time I'd think about mining. (Also, Maker do I wish we could play as a claustrophobic dwarf. I would play the heck out of that character).

In short, what I'm trying to say is-is being near lyrium enough to get one addicted to it? I know the dwarves have a natural resistance to it that still doesn't fully protect them, but again, I thought it was ingestion/inhalation, not mere proximity. That makes me think of a lyrium plant that's reminiscent of Chernobyl, to be honest. I figure as someone who generally enjoys playing a mage, now's the time to actually figure this nonsense out, rather than playing as a figure who has epic cosmic power at their fingertips while not actually knowing anything about anything.  :)

EDIT: In hindsight, if Alistair had been the one who became a werewolf, all of those comments about "being raised by dogs" would've been hilarious. Even more so than the original script, I mean.

I'm absolutely paranoid about missing Fenris. I completely missed Leliana on my first playthrough of Origins, and even though I got Zev, most of those chests stayed locked.

The only solution I can think of is searching every house of Kirkwall during both day and night while constantly changing my party.

Heh, my Hawke's a stalker. <3

@ kayemdi: Addiction is the body acclimitising itself to a substance, in our case lyrium, and then going into withdrawl when that substance is no longer being taken. To avoid withdrawl, a person continues to take lyrium. There's only so many ways anything can enter the body. Such substances can be eaten/drunk, breathed in, or go through semi-permeable surfaces like the skin or the eyes...

Lyrium going in through the eyes... I wouldn't want to be that slave.Posted Image

Of course, in real life, as the body get acclimitised, that person has to start taking more of whatever recrational drugs they're taking so they can contniue getting the "high".

the thing about lyrium is that its poison. it is incredibly toxic, and cannot be handled in its raw form (a mineral). even refined (into a liquid) its still toxic, or it wouldn't cause brain issues (addiction, memory loss, downright insanity). Lyrium is very useful and seems to cause a high of sorts, but once the initial effect wears off the toxic nature of it takes hold. maintained exposure is probably incredibly damaging to the mind and body. especially for those lacking natural resistence like dwarves. but of course we've seen even they can be lyrium-addled quite severely. recall a certain merchant in Orzammar.

and on the "can't be touched" thing. i think its better to think about a nasty scar YOU have. you wouldn't want someone touching it would you? wouldn't necessarily hurt, since its long-healed. but just the memory of it makes you recoil. it gets complicated with Fenris as most of his body seems to be covered by these "scars".

and i am a horrible person because ideally, the first thing i would want to do is poke one. ):

Considering he doesn't seem to mind leaving a trail of violence behind him, he's probably not all that hard to find.

And considering he's a freaky fade-shifting glowing violence magnet in tight pants, I'm sure others have noticed him as well, and perhaps through word of mouth Hawke might come to know his location. He's not an inconspicuous Chantry sister among many in a city full of refugees.

I wouldn't worry about missing him o_o;

Good point. I agree that it might be more of a memory of pain than physical hurt, though I'm sure it still actually hurts a bit.

I'd poke one too, if I didn't value the integrity of my organs >_>

i thought David said it didn't really hurt anymore and that it was an aversion, i.e. the scenario i mentioned. i imagine the only "pain" left currently would be the side effects of having Lyrium in your body. but that'd be all mental.

Yes, it seems as though his trauma is psychological. He is just uncomfortable with physical contact, but I think it's not painful.

I thought his tattoos constantly caused him pain, but touching them doesn't cause any extra pain, he just doesn't like them being touched.

Evening, Ser Gaider! *tips hat*

I had a feeling Hawke would probably either get punched or get threatened with getting her hands cut off.

Well, first he would flinch-- because his markings are quite painful, and doubly so when they're touched. His first instinct might be to punch someone who touched him, though he'd probably hold back if he realized it was Hawke.

Then he would brood.

So this is what Ser Gaider said.  Poor Fenris Posted Image

Well pain can mean many things. i guess i just assumed it to be mostly mental. trauma and the side-effects of lyrium on the brain. plus it seemed like the whole "aversion to being touched" was getting downplayed. its basically just not advisable to be an immature child like me and try to poke the tattoos. knowing i shouldn't makes me wannnnnnnaaaaaa. >:
