Any ****iness is probably a reaction to being oppressed and enslaved. Finally being able to free oneself from that, by oneself, and having the crazy abilities with which to eliminate anyone who would try and take away that freedom... it probably feels good. The way I interpreted the story he was making excuses for waiting for new opponents to show up so he could fell them and continue to be free. If that makes any sense. An emotional 180, from having no power to having ridiculous amounts of it, and perhaps wanting to demonstrate it or prove it to himself and others or whatever.
Or maybe I'm seeing rationalization where there isn't any and he is actually sick of the chase. Then again he makes it clear that he is rejecting any of the options he has to blend in. So he's sabotaging himself. But why would he do that? Either to invite enemies and fell them thereby validating his hard-earned freedom further still or just because he likes combat. He seems to forget all about being tired of the game once he's got someone to kill so I'm guessing it's one or both. And to continue to behave like that, he's gotta be damn sure of himself.
Like I said earlier, the ****iness or reckless belligerence is in the one snapshot from what we can infer is around when we meet him. There is a decade for him and errybody else to change, and they inevitably will. Pseudo Hawke is certainly not putting up with that crap.
Edit: lolcensors.
That does make a lot of sense, actually. I never thought about it as some sort of rough 180 degree transition from powerl
ess to power
ful. When you look at it that way, most of the standard "arrogance" people would usually attach to a generally "cocky" attitude seems somewhat justified.
When I read the short story, I got this feeling that he'd lost the will to hide anymore; almost like it wasn't confidence that drove him out into the open, but sheer fatigue. But then when he was actually attacked, he did another 180 and seemed to somewhat enjoy the chase again.
And you're right about the character development that can happen in ten years, as well. Now that I think about it, even if he did start off as straight-up "cocky", which isn't even that likely, that could easily change in the interim of a decade. That's kind of a "duh" moment for me, right there. *tallies the seventh of hers today*
In other news, speculation makes my head hurt. >.<
(On a slightly off-topic note, Psuedo, I love your art! You're really amazing! )
