Sorry its just Pseudocognition seemed to be very negative towards him and there are other people outside the thread who seem to already have labled him as a douchebag :/

Just like there are people in this thread who have him labeled as a gentle sweet lover?

No-one is being negative.

Indeed, and based on far less evidence.  They're being "positive" though, I suppose.

I love that he is a douche. It's a nice change from the Origins cast. I want to understand how and why he is that way. He's very interesting. Character reactions to extraordinary circumstances are my favorite part of fantasy.

No offence but why defend a companion you haven't even met yet? You might end up hating him, for all you know.

Okay people, onto another topic. Well, not altogether a different topic, since it deals with Fen and his personality, but whatever.

How big of a role do you think Fen's personality before the branding will effect him in the game? I know this seems like a rather odd question, but stay with me. If for some reason, Fenris regains his memories from before the lyrium branding, do you think this will have a major impact on how he acts around the rest of the crew?

No one has declared him a jerk and stated they wanted nothing to do with him.

Pseudo is expressing interest in the character. Nowhere is she saying he's a douchebag and that nobody should like him. Must a character be a perfect, chivalrous knight-in-shining-armor, free from any attributes that could be criticized in order to be liked?

Oh,well...okay .___. I'll just be....over there somewhere.

I don't know, I actually like this topic, to be honest. I'm having fun analyzing the short story and there's some good discussion with different points of view going on. I like this thread when it does a variety of different things :D

No, Pseudo was analyzing the story, which is a good thing.  If a character does something one thinks is negative (and unless the character is supposed to be perfect, they probably will), what is wrong with pointing out why you think it's negative?  You can like or even love a character without approving of everything they do.  I loved Alistair, but he said/did some things that I felt were deserving of criticism.

Also, even though these are "just characters in a story,"  I believe it's a good thing to step back sometimes and think about why you react to them in a certain way (ie. why you find a character's actions "amusing and lighthearted").

My interpretation of the situation: He ran because he second-guessed himself and/or was actually afraid, but not consciously. Don't expect me to prove it, 'cause I don't have any evidence. The entire smirk at random lady's cleavage might've been just a blip of surprise. And something to give me more belief that I'm entirely stable for sleeping with a metal softball bat next to my bed, because if any guy, no matter how attractive, crashed through my window and stared at my boobs, I'd totally take a swing at him. Even though it'd probably not be effective against this said character.

Too much offense and we'll end up hating him before we even meet him.

Well, maybe not the fangirls here.:pinched:

I find a nice middle ground to be sufficient.

Analysis of the short story and his character motivations does not equal writing him off.

Sorry I guess by what I mean as to "writting him off as a jerk" is going ahead and labling him as a jerk  >.<

If he's a jerk when you meet him, that doesn't mean he's forever gonna be Lord Douchey of Douchalandia. The short story is giving the player a glimpse of the character before Hawke meets him, not "this is how Fenris is and will be foreverty ever".

Running the risk of looking like I'm begging people to pay attention to me, does anyone have any thoughts on my interpretation? You might want to google the Monkeysphere to get a better idea of what I mean (language warning.) I think that basically everyone is outside of Fenris's monkeysphere until he actually has experiences with them that make them into real people with feelings and emotions in his eyes.

Maybe--it's highly possible that his experiences have turned him into a misanthrope, if that's what you're saying.

I think this is a good discussion. I'm still voting on he has more of a warped sense of humor than consciously trying to be a jerk, at least as far as this situation goes.

As far as doing things to get Hawke to notice him, I find that so elementary school, it's actually pretty hysterical. I kinda hope and not hope that this is the case.

It's alright to have an opinion about a character. You might think that Fenris is a nice guy who was just dumbstruck by some boobs for a second. It's really all speculation until we meet him anyway.

Definitely think this is true, or at least hope. Though I do so very hope he's dry, there's been an impression of dryness here and there and I do so love bone dry humour ...

Besides, if he wasn't a douche, it'd be no fun to rival-mance him. :D I'd love it if Gaider's little "*slap* *kiss*" scene happens, but only if Hawke has a really good reason to slap him.
