It is possible that because he has been utilized as a weapon all this time, and probably never failed in his task, or done so very little, that he simply considers fighting the better option to hiding. Hiding might not be something he is good at, or he may view it a wearisome, and feels that he should simply utilize his strengths instead. He may see hiding as something that won't work long term, so why do something you are not particularly good at/ know how to do well just to delay the inevitable?
As for the Zevren analogy, Fenris is probably, yes, very cocky and confident to the point of arrogent when it comes to his ability to fight and defeat those following him, after all he has thus far succeeded and is a "living weapon". I seriously doubt he would have that level of confidence when interacting with comrades in a non-hostile environment. He will probably not be at all used to conversing, or using charm. This is the very area Zevran was most confident. Thus, they can both be overly confident without being anything alike.

Re: Fenris' potential narcissism...I think to the degree it's there, it won't be a Roark-esque objectivist, I am more gifted/talented than the teeming masses sort of narcissism, but as upsettingshorts said, more of a runaway slave who has realized he is uniquely suited to kill his pursuers and relishes the opportunity to do so whenever possible. I do hope he is at least somewhat unlikeable, but being a Rand protagonist is like the ninth circle of hell for me, so I'm hoping it's not that.

I don't disagree with you, however, he's gambling with his life by procrastinating. I highly doubt he actually wants to be captured. And again, he's not taking the options he has (sucking it up and blending in). Which makes me think that paragraph is rationalization, or telling himself he's not looking for a fight, or what have you. That's what most of my interpretation hinges on really. He's being indecisive but the cost of his laziness could be his freedom, which tells me there's more to it than just being sick of running. Bolded for emphasis: He'd rather fight constantly and risk capture than hide? That's very telling. Is it any effort to put on a cloak or a long sleeved shirt? Doubtful. Sleeves and hats aplenty in Kirkwall, I'm sure. He's putting off or not doing very easy, simple things, including not looking like a peacock. To... fight indefinitely.

Replace it with any mundane task.

Fenris hates washing dishes. He avoids them and lately ants have been coming in droves to feast upon whatever is growing in his sink. He kills the ants, because it's fun to squish them or suck them up in a vacuum, but the dishes are still there. He could do the dishes, and he's sick of dealing with the ants, but he really hates doing dishes. He's above doing dishes, really.

Then again my interpretation is colored by the fact that I reeeeeally want an aggressive character. And I hate washing dishes.

I get there you are coming from, and honestly I wouldn't mind if he was aggressive.
And on one point I completely agree, yes he could do more to try and hide,
he was also he plan when he escaped, yet when he saw how the city elfs
lived, he didn't want to - one he would have to give up his weapon as no
city elf that was in plain site has any.

He’d thought to
blend in more once he’d escaped the Imperium. In a land
where elves were free, certainly one more elf would go unnoticed? He’d
been a fool, of course. How was he to know that so many of his people
would squander their freedom living like frightened cattle? If his only
choices were to either dress as meekly as the local humans
expected their elves to be, run off to find the wandering clans that
grubbed in the dirt for whatever scraps the human kingdoms threw them,
or to fight… then his choice was clear.

And in my opinion he is way to proud to live like that, if you had been a slave
would you become free only like live, in was he perceives as another from
of slavery?

From what I read, or rather how I under of the story is that he doesn't see the city elfs or dalish elfs as free
- (I know this is a bad analogy but bear with me) a dog on a leash my
think he is free but, the a wolf would disagree with that.

Oh, uh... there was a flyer out for like a year that said 2-1-2011 and as the day of apocalypse drew nigh, certain segments of the forum built up massive speculation about what would happen.  I guess a lot of people were expecting a demo on that day.  The day came and went with only an announcement about a beta trial of Legends (which was already in beta).  Stunned by the anticlimax, some forumites went on a rampage.  In short, it was just another day at BSN, only moreso than usual.

Also, Fenris!  I'm chained to a desk, someone tell me if Fenris shows his pretty face in the demo.

Sure am. I've already played the demo on xbox but since I will be playing DA2 on PC I want to try on my PC too. Ugh, 47 minutes to download. I might as well get dinner out of the way while I wait..

On the subject of Fenris possibly being a bit cocky:

There's the old phrase "If you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail." To me this sort of how Fenris chooses to live his life, what he can't run from he'll fight off even if its not the best solution. From what we see of him in the short story he gets that the running and fighting isn't a permanent fix but its what he knows how to do. He's pretty much a stranger in a strange land who doesn't fit in with the locals, and doesn't want to go back to where he came from.

That's where Hawke comes in. Romance or not Hawke's band is a place where Fen fits in perfectly:

Hawke: So you're this lyrium-infused living weapon?

Fenris: Pretty much, it doesn't freak you out does it?

Hawke: Buddy, my sister's an apostate mage, my friends consist of a dwarven spy master, a woman who can beat darkspawn to death with her bare hands, an cranky mage possesed by a crankier spirit, a Dalish keeper, and an ex-pirate captian. If those things don't bother me nothing will.
