." There's a reason most convicts hate child abusers when they're incarcerated with them.

They usually were molseted themselves; those who rape those their own age generally arent as alienated and targeted.

But I would be more afraid of making a woobie out of him, especially since I can't imagine feeling the the same protectiveness I would feel for a child, for a adult with a giant sword on his back, just because of his past

Finished demo a rogue!Hawke as archer... and can you say "overpowered" with me? I nearly died with dual-wielding, but I switched to that bow and I was like... awesome. And I love that if crap gets too close, we pull a knife and start slashing!

Now I'm considering archer Hawkette on my first round with the difficulty bumped up... Even though I'm totally a mage person!

I was kvetching for such a long time about the locked CC, ugh I'm gonna start again if I don't just cut myself off he––

Exactly my thoughts. I do like being a flippy little acrobat as a DW, though. I'm totally going [to be a] rogue in my first playthrough because I'm most familiar with that class and can never leave a locked chest alone to save my life.

And also, I love the SHING-SHING-iness of the blades. DICE DEM DARKSPAWN, DARLIN'!

Why is March not here yet?

Love how PERSONAL they are! Can't wait to see the full trees for every companion.

Indeed! And deeply buried resentment, eh? Excellent... I look forward to the day all that resentment boils over.

Ah, the "light hearted" backtrack.  The Fenris thread modus operandi.

Say something weird, unsubstantiated, or childish.  Someone comments on it.  Shrug it off saying it was just light hearted, silly, or "fun."  Then sometimes as a bonus question the motives of the person commenting.

A great example would be your convict and child molester edit to the post above.  They're laughable - we're supposed to look to convicts for our ethical compass - so clearly it was a light-hearted statement not meant to stand up to "serious" (evil, trollish, whatever it needs to be called to be hand-waved away) scrutiny.

RosaAquafire wrote...

This is really unneccessary, Shorts. Was there REALLY anything about the innocent comment that made you think she actually thought it was more cruel to abuse something cute? Obviously not. It's a well known fact that human beings find it more difficult to hurt something that appears non-threatening in good conscience. That's all she was saying.

Anyway, it's an ugly and unwarranted discussion that comes off like picking a fight just to rain on a parade and that's all I'm going to say about it.

Define a "necessary" comment?  Must I squee enthusiastically at every piece of fanart - no matter if I genuinely appreciate it or not, swoon at every single aspect of Fenris's anatomy?  Speculate wildly as to what his posture implies?  Dream up whatever out-of-character fantasy would suit my personal desires, and then share it? What if treating him and his situation like I am and he is an adult is what I want to talk about?

Reading a thread and seeing a bunch of filler comments rains on my parade.  It's a good thing that doesn't matter.  For me or for anyone else.

I've noticed quite a few of those abilities have a nice, personal description.  Avelines and Varrics come to mind.  It's neat because so often abilities in cRPGs are typically given very broad, generic descriptions.

Yeah, and I'll give you three guesses as to what it is.

I wonder if that is only for fighting, or if it could be linked to his personality too.
...pardon me while I try and pull alot from a little...
Like... I think it was said somewhere(cannot remember where/when or by whom. Sorry if this is incorrect) that you could pull him down one of two paths: running, or facing those he is being hunted by. Perhaps if you run, he won't have to face "his demons" quite so much, and so will grow calmer in a way.
But having him face his hunters, and the magister, puts him in a point of stress more often, and so adds to his "deeply buried resentment", which could create a more angry, stressed, snappish character.
Of course the first path could lead to increased paranoia, so he may have plenty of snappy moments, while the second path could create an in-the-end calmer Fenris.

... or something? idk... pardon me... Image IPB

I think I see where your coming from. Though I hope the facing those he's hunted by isn't restricted to one path.
Edit: Now I'm being b****y.

*sighs, and delurks* Can we just stop all the in-arguments for the moment? I do agree with some point stated with shorts, but if this goes on its gonna derail into a big argument thread.

edit:  Yay for Fenris footage!

I don't see that happening, since the Magister seems so obsessed with getting him back, it must come up at some point.

Okay, sure, let's go here.

Upsettingshorts wrote...

Okay, if you want to play semantics, maybe "neccessary" was the wrong word, and maybe I should have just said what I meant: what you said was ugly and mean-spirited, and specifically constructed to make someone else unhappy. Unneccessary, I suppose, because that has even less to do with this thread than repeated posts about Fenris's hips.

Upsettingshorts wrote...Must I squee enthusiastically at every piece of fanart - no matter if I genuinely appreciate it or not

I've personally commented on three? four? pieces of fanart in this entire thread, and haven't said anything to any of the fanfiction, because it's not something I personally agree with or enjoy. So obviously, unless I'm a gigantic hypocrite, no, I don't think you "must" do that at all.

Upsettingshorts wrote...

swoon at every single aspect of Fenris's anatomy?

Again with the "must" -- no, there is no obligation to do this. And to be honest, I understand the frustration that the thread is happy to wallow there instead of engaging in meaningful dialogue. There are many things about Fenris more interesting than his pouty lips or his dark eyebrows or his deep eyes. Of course, that's worth talking about, too, but yes, this thread spends a great deal of time talking about that and the last thing it needs is one more person.

Upsettingshorts wrote...

Speculate wildly as to what his posture implies?

I don't see what this one hurts, and the discussion on this seemed to be about elven physiology, which I personally found interesting, though I didn't comment on it.

Upsettingshorts wrote...

Already said it: I am NOT into fanfiction. It makes me cringe at best. So no, I'm not asking for that, either.

Upsettingshorts wrote...

Not exactly sure what you're saying, but if what you want to talk about is treating his situation like he's an adult, you're more than welcome to make a comment saying "I think it's brutally hard to imagine him in this situation, it must be really depersonalizing, blah blah blah." I would have definitely jumped right in to discuss that with you, as would many other people.

Upsettingshorts wrote...

Rains on mine, too. I rarely participate and usually just skim through. Not my thing. I'm really a lot like you. I like a good, deep discussion better than sitting around cooing over small things that don't matter for pages on end. I had more fun analyzing the hell out of the short story last night with you and Pseudo than I have since the heavy speculation over the voice actor. In fact, it was my best Fenris thread night in memory, and I wish we could have more like it.

The difference between us is that I don't pick petty little fights designed to make someone feel stupid when they're enjoying themselves doing something I'm not. When I don't like what the thread is doing, I bring up a topic that I want to talk about. If nobody bites, well, I have other things to do.

Your tone was combatitive, cruel, and petty, and I'm going to call you on it, because the Fenris thread can be inane, but I'd rather that than have it be ugly.

If I was in a different mood, I'd quote a certain post from a couple hundred pages ago in which this thread was warned not to turn into a clubhouse.  You know, like a building with a "no upsettingshorts allowed" sign.

Nah, though if you'd like I'll respond in a PM.  Though I'll say publically you're right about some things - though I'm probably going to attempt to justify it in said PM.

If that works for you, sure.  It works for me most of the time.

In any event, something on topic to comment on... let's see:

Looks about right.  The eyes in the game are one of the few things that bug me - I think the artist went a little too nuts with the "Saturation" slider, but Fenris - at least in these videos as we haven't seen him ingame yet - seems to have a more subdued color while still being nicely colored.  And moss fits.

It would be a lot easier to just acquiesce to and contribute to the topic of how circumstances, and projections, may influence our perception of Fenris; how this may be bad thing, how it may not be, rather than launching into long harangues on someones motives or how your fun was ruined..

If there's going to be an argument about something off topic, take it to PM. Having a public debate about conduct is more of a display and that NEVER goes well, because people inevitably choose sides and things can get screwy.

Its much easier to have a comfortable, cozy private conversation and resolves problems quickly and fast. You'd be surprised.
