It leaves more for Hawke to explore if Fenris is actually keeping his emotions in because he is afraid of what will happen if he doesn't. Confronting it could lead to some interesting avenues.

I am intrigued to at the idea that Fenris keeps all his emotions bottled up, and I'm very tempted to go for all the combative dialogue options with him. I only worry that being a **** to him right off the bat means I just refuse to help him and he never joins the party or something. I want to agree to help him but only reluctantly.

If I can't be mean right away, and you have to pick the nice or sarcastic lines to recruit him it might seem kind of bipolar for my FemHawke to suddenly become aggressive and argument in every conversation after she so happily agreed to help him out... Hmm, I shall have to think on this. Perhaps I can roleplay that Hawke was nice to him at first but then starts to get annoyed by his cool, detached attitude and it makes her want to push his buttons just to get a reaction.

It's the main thing I'm apprehensive about in this new system.

I feel the same way but it sounds better then the system in DA;O' at least

Just no more black and white "BFF or I KILL YOU" without making a real effort at either one.  Maybe what I really want is a snark buddy.  That can say he's sorry, with moss colored eyes, deep as the sea.... :D

I think that might be the way to go. I was REALLY looking forward to somewhat of a rivalmance with him, or at least for him to be irritated (beneath the stoicism) and reluctantly attracted to my mage Hawke, therefore making the romance hard-won and spicing the passion with anger. I hope the issue of Hawke being a mage (when that path is taken) IS addressed by Fenris in dialog. Otherwise it will be a serious let-down.

If he is a woobie-woo or a Stoic McStares-a-Lot, well, I'll still romance him I guess. But I'd prefer to break that cool facade. :3

I suppose it'd be fun teasing him into angry fits like Rowan teasing Loghain about his swordsmanship.

I got ninjamanced by Leliana while romancing Zevran  it is very weird when she comes to you questioning you about Zevran and making you choose when you had made it so clear that you were JUST FRIENDS......

At the very least it'd be a nice change of pace.  If Fenris and Hawke don't argue about his whole messed-up backstory at some point, it might come off as nothing more than a melodramatic pity-party setup...which may or may not appeal to you.

I took this screen at 13:09 right before you traipse off to the magister's mansion. (Sorry about the obnoxious play button in the middle)

Image IPB

So it looks like we can call him out on his trickery. I wonder how he will try and justify that.

Also, to those worried about choosing the more aggressive dialogue options earlier on in the conversation in fear that you would flat out refuse him by mistake: it looks like this is where we make our final decision as to whether to help him or not. We can be as indignant as we want. Hurray.

I am going to skip all the squeaking pages since 852, so if I miss any prompt entry please let me know.

*offtopic

Several things I notice while studying the credits (I must be crazy):

1. Anders is not voiced by Greg.
2. Greg was on the list.
3. Jon Curry was on the list !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Oh, Zev!!!!!)
4. Eve (TORCHWOOD!!!!)

@Lucy, I am not sure if they actually know or BioWare decided to change him in the last minute. I can only hope if he will voice the 'Justice had left' Anders at one stage.

That's exactly what I'm going to do as well. I'm under the impression his 'I am a poor little slave who only wants to be freeeeeeeeee' with his soft elf eyes is also a ploy to trick Hawke once again into doing exactly what he wants. He's a bit of a manipulator, so the video suggests.

*le gasp* If Zevran gets a cameo...  (He's the only character I will ever resign myself to use an emoticon for)

In the video Mike said something along the lines of the magister not necessarily wanting Fenris back, per say, but the lyrium itself. I can only imagine how painful it was to have it infused in your skin, but then to draw it back out... Ouch.

I don't think that Fenris is going to be Captain Pity-Party. Fen's got a ton of anger that he has welled up inside and both friend and rival paths might give him a way to deal with that:

Rival:

Hawke: (looking at the door to the Magister's chambers) So you're going to end this right?

Fenris: Yes...no...sometimes I wonder if this is what I really want.

Hawke: Your indecisiveness is inspiring.

Fenris: What?

Hawke: You heard me. All this time you've told us how the Magister wronged you, how much you wanted justice, and we all stood there going "oh poor thing". Now you're here, and it is now within your power to get that one thing you've always wanted, and what do you do? You wimp out when it really matters. Maybe you were better off as a slave.

Fenris: (clenching fist) I am no slave.

Hawke: You could have fooled me. Look at you, you have all of this little demons bottled up inside, you strut around town like you're the hardest man in Kirkwall while under that veneer you're just a sad lost little man who's afraid of the big wide world.

Fenris: Don't push me Hawke.

Hawke: Or what? You'll go brood in the corner? You're not some golem Fenris, you're a living, breathing person, and you're angry aren't you? You're afraid what will happen if you just let it all out, who knows maybe you'd actually feel better, but oh no. Everybody loves the little kicked puppy begging for sympathy.

Fenris: (draws his blade and charges towards Hawke) I'll kill you!

Hawke: No. Not me, him.

(Fenris snarls and busts down the door to the Magister's chambers and the battle commences, after an intense battle the mage lays dead and Fenris' long game is over.)

Fenris: (sighs) It is done.

Hawke: Feel better?

Fenris: I do. Wait? That whole speech was just to get me to-

Hawke: Yup.

Fenris: You didn't actually mean-

Hawke: Nope.

Fenris:
You are an insufferable woman.

Hawke: I know its apart of my charm.

I was wondering about that too. Polite!Fenris was unexpected because of everything I'd inferred about him from reading the short story, so I couldn't help but think all wasn't as it seemed. Perhaps his attitude changes once he doesn't need Hawke's help anymore... ;)

@Doc - Nice! B) I have a feeling we could get a conversation where Fenris says something like, "Don't push me" if Hawke keeps getting in his face.

All I can say on that possibility is: Zevran. <3

I would think that getting it back out would be more err, deadly, than putting it in?  Then again, didn't Fenris say in the video that he "wasn't afraid of death?"  Ouch, indeed.

Right, folks. I am knocking off early, part because I want to play demo again, partly because it's my usual Wednesday night off.

A gentle reminder it's prompt day tomorrow.

Night.

<3 reading this thread (apart from the short arguments that you were all able to work out awesomely ^_^). It's like my routine now! I read what I missed for the day, and swoon over Fenris, maybe take a dive in the gutter, then I go to bed smiling.
And good LORD is Fenris smexy. I watched that video over, and over, and over... and over again.
...OH the things that come to mind.:innocent:
Thanks for being awesome, everyone.
Goodnight!

Exactly. Considering his conduct, the whole "SURPRISE! I used you :D I'm a sad slave elf who trusts no one... You were so selfless! I never run into anyone selfless. Now I'm going to give a selfish request with my sad eyes and ask for some major help that could endanger you without giving you any information about who I am. Let's be off!"

Fenris is so calm, but his specialties seem to reveal that he is a very, very, very angry elf under that cool facade. I am very deeply under the impression he is a fantastic manipulator, which is why he has survived so far.

I look forward to calling him on his bluffs 24/7.

Hawke: Okay. Fine. You want my help.... pay up e_e
Fenris: What! But I have no money!
Hawke: How did you pay the dwarf guy to send me as a distraction then!?
Fenris: I sold my shoes.
Hawke: ..... then I'll take your shirt.
Fenris: .....
*Isabela & Bethany fist bump*
