I don't mind if Fenris had a past love or wife. What I hate about the past lovers trope is that she's all they ever talk about, and she was like the love of their life (not someone it just didn't work out with in the end like most past lovers in real life).Batorific wrote...
I don't mind the wife thing really. i like David's approach as in the quote. its interesting. also tense in translation is iffy so don't mind it. many languages lose tense in translation.

hope it's a mistranslation! The article says something about a later
quest with Fen that involves the magister telling him about his past
and he was married to some woman or something... it's also in present
tense :/

Good lord.
He couldn't have just had an ex that he parted with amicably? Why does it always have to be a damn wife?
I'm calling it now. He has a damn kid too. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]
Maybe the magister is lying and trying to take advantage of Fenris' amnesia to trick him!! That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!! *explodes*

I'm wondering why this sort of complaint should keep me from doing this in the future, and I really can't imagine it. My version of "fantasy romance" does not extend to "you're the only person they've ever loved or will love EVER". Sorry.
Wow, now this would be really interesting. I actually applaud Gaider for this. What a great issue to tackle when you're in this romance, and suddenly Fenris gets his memory back and realizes he has a wife he loves? It won't feed my inner fangirl but wow, that would actually be amazing.
I wouldn't say I'm "hoping" for it but at the same time, I'd kind of like to see something like that.

I am more in shock when discovered Greg Ellis isn't VA Anders.
Fenris has a wife...oh biggie. I don't mind sharing.
*Zevran chuckled at the background* (turn) What?

So long as he's written well,I honestly don't mind.I like characters with emotional storylines.
That's exactly the thing. I'm getting tired of Carth Syndrome. So damn tired.
It will be written well but it lost it's punch after Jade Empire. I'm just sick and tired of it.
And if he compares the female PC to his wife...urgh.
No.
God if he does I hope he's bi. Can't compare me to another woman when my PC is a man. <_<
Fenris does not seem like the type to start lamenting over it every second.

And this is purely an assumption on my part, but I know one of the biggest gripes people have with previously married characters is the constant comparison of, "You remind me of her!"
But... 1) we don't know if Fenris regains his memory ever, or if he's even interested in pursuing his past life (he may want to bury it, wife or no wife.)
and 2) We got rivalry-mances this time around, people! Just a guess, but I'm thinking that if Fenris made any kind of comparison, you'd be given an option to snark and tell him EXACTLY how you feel about being likened to a past lover/wife.
3) the Magister could be bluffing. Making up things about Fenris' past life to rile him up and send him on a wild goose chase for a woman who never existed that ends in a carefully laid out trap. Fenris seems to be quite good at avoiding traps, but if he was prompted into an emotional state fueled by false memories, he could slip up.
Regardless, I wouldn't veto a romance just because he may have been married. We have no idea how it's being handled.

If he's got Carth Syndrome, I'm probably going to have to friend zone him. After Thane I swore never again, it's just.. It's not even hate, it's just not entertaining at all. How does having a dead spouse add drama when all you can do at this point is roll your eyes and go, "You too?"

LOL that's exactly how I feel abou it at this point. It doesn't even matter how well written it is anymore because all the other ones were well written. It's like you seeing a particularly nice trick. No matter how nice it loks if you constantly see it you're gonna hit a point where you go "Again? Lame."

Well he does. He's an awesome guy but because of the wife comparison (yeah it's only one convo but it just bothers me) I find myself constantly romancing him with a male PC.

I actually would not really mind that much if Fenris was married. He is a city elf and almost all the city elves were in arranged marriages. As long as he's not constantly talking about said wife a la Carth or have some major emo angst issues (incurable disease + dead wife + rebellious son) a la Thane, I think I'd be OK with it.
Now if Anders suddenly had a wife... there would be hell to pay methinks >.>

To that point, we could have a Goldana-esque scene. You find his wife and she starts going off on Fenris for disappearing for Maker-knows-how-long and leaving her to deal with everything, and what is this? You have someone else? Don't waste my time unless you have money! *doorslaminface*Fenn wrote...
