In regards to possible betrayal among the ranks, I know in ME2 Garrus could have shot through Shepard to get to Sidonis if he'd wanted to. Maybe if Fenris and Hawke were in the same sort of situation with the magister Fenris might be inclined to do something drastic? After all, he's probably bottling up a lot of anger after being kept as a slave for so long.

@panamakira I agree. Even if I end up not liking Fenris, my crush on Gideon Emery is eternal. Even though he's about 20 years older than me. Yes, ours is an ill-fated love and destiny has bid that it end in nothing but sorrow. *sigh*
Just kidding.

Raiders
The Hanged Man, the night after the attack on the Magister's mansion
Fenris: (taking a sip of ale) So if you do not mind my asking, what are you doing working as a mercenary?
Hawke: We need to eat, and there's not much someone in my position can do for work around here.
Fenris: I can repay you, it might take some time but...
Hawke: Relax, there's other jobs.
Varric: (walking over with a small stack of papers) Alright, so it looks like the trip's been delayed for awhile. That means we have some time to raise some capital. (looks at Fenris) Is the elf in on this?
Fenris: In on what?
Varric: Well, one of the many benefits of joining our little band includes such perks as travel to exotic locales. How would you like to take a little trip with us to the Deep Roads?
Fenris: Why would anyone want to go there?
Hawke: I have my reasons.
Varric: You see, thanks to my bean-counter of a brother, we have to raise fifty sovereigns in order to get in on the trip, and that little stunt you pulled with Anso set us back. But thanks to my considerable social skills I've managed to line up another contract for us. (yelling to Isabela) Hey Captain Stabbity you in?
Hawke: What's the job?
Varric: So remember that Magister's place? We got a contract from one of Merideth's people to go in and take whatever enchanted knick knacks we can pull out of the place.
Fenris: There's nothing there that would be of any use to your Templars.
Hawke: Who cares? So the Templars can go play hero for a day claiming that they "cleared out a den of illicit magic" as long as they pay us that's all that matters.
Fenris: Denerius' magics are very dangerous, anything we recover could harm those who do not understand what they are doing.
Hawke: Fenris, first rule of Templars, if they know what they're doing then its too late. Varric, did the hiring bursar give who we're supposed to give whatever we recover?
Varric: Our contact's name is Orsino. First Enchanter of the Circle here.
Hawke: See Fenris, we're giving the stuff to someone who knows what he's doing.
Fenris: I want to come along, just to make sure that Denerius left no demonspawn behind.
Hawke: Good. Well then, looks like we have a mansion to raid.

It would definitely be a hard situation for Fenris to choose between Hawke and revenge...or not depending on how close he allows himself to get to her/him. Either way has the potential for GIGANTIC amounts of angst.

I think the Magister Bastard deserves to die as long as Fenris doesen't sink to his level.

Fenris: He is here.
Hawke: Are you sure?
Fenris: I saw him.
Hawke: So what now? Revenge?
Fenris: I don't know. He took my life, but now I have a new one. Here, with friends and a home... and you. I'm not sure what he took from me is something that I want back. Either way he'll still hunt me, I represent a large investment to him.
Hawke: Well then, I'll just ask him to leave you alone.
Fenris: And how do you intend to do that?
Hawke: I'll make him an offer he can't refuse.
