Man, did someone seriously just come into the Fenris thread and equate homosexuality with necrophilia? That's classy.
As far as fetishes are concerned, yes. I did equate them.
What's really classy is your lack of capacity to follow the discussion, if you think I'm comparing a universally taboo act versus one that's a matter of preference.
but in the end, whatever. *shrugs shoulders*
Writing homosexual fan-fiction, though, is a fetish.
Reading comprehension failure again.
Please explain how homosexuality is a fetish.
I am very confused as to when sexuality became a thing that people are turned on by instead of who they are attracted to.

Writing heterosexual fanfiction, on the other hand, is completely normal. Even if you're actually a gay male. Like a good chunk of this thread.
I don't read fanfic, I don't write fanfic, but I sure don't give a **** that somebody else does.

Ouch; I tried, too. But, alright. I'll take it in stride.
Stephen, I love how the only thing you absorbed from my post was my mentioning Merrill-thread discussions on her potential bisexuality.

I do think he's right about people misinterpreting his comments with regards to gay fanfiction. Whether or not he's ultimately right isn't what I'd dispute, but I really do not think - with regards to that specific example - he's saying what people seem to think he is.

No it isn't. Unless you consider all fan-fiction to be a fetish, then I'll just think your definition of fetish is odd, but won't argue with you anymore. All fan-fiction is about making a character different the writer intended them to be, not just the gay stuff.

I haven't singled out gay as something he can't be, I have no problem with that possibility. What does seem strange to me is the tendency to always make the pretty boy character gay. If Fenris actually turns out to be gay, more power to him. I'll buy the computer version and mod the butterfly sword in for him.
While I don't necessarily disagree with your statement about possibility, I think the reasoning is a little specious though. Doesn't it make more sense to use precedents for inspiration rather than total shots in the dark? Having tattoos, being man pretty and skinny + an elf doesn't really set a precedent for gay. I think just about every Elf I've ever seen in literature/media/whatever has been skinny, man pretty. Are they all possibly gay? Or could it just be wishful thinking?
I'm not sure about tendencies or that it's limited to only elves - there's gay Anders and gay Merrill and, well, gay Isabela but that's pretty much an understood fact - heck there's even romantic Varric who isn't a LI at all. What I do know is that gay Fenris in art varies rather a lot in terms of personality, and Aimo/Pseudo's gay Fenris wouldn't be caught dead with a cutesy effeminate butterfly sword, and is most assuredly "the man" even with studly Akiva Hawke. I mean sure ultimately people are going to speculate most enthusiastically about things they want, either in a post, fanfic, or art - but I dunno, I'm not sure that gay Fenris is the result of anything particularly disturbing or creepy.Marionettetc wrote...

I might buy that if we're talking about established characters. Fenris and all the other companions are - at this stage - mostly undefined.
You're 100% correct. I don't have any argument against what you've posted.
Honestly though, I think the Butterfly sword is extremely masculine, but I guess that's where our opinions differ. I think it's a very dramatic weapon, and the actual butterfly effects are outshined by the radiant energy flowing out of it. In fact, when cloaked in Combat Magic with fade shroud, the colors mute and it just looks like overflowing fade energy.
But, back to your response:
You're right. It's not estabilished Fenris *isn't* gay, so I suppose it isn't wrong to speculate. I initially took offense because I was starting to feel dirty for wanting Fenris as my warrior in my party when the game launches, after seeing him *tip* now gay Hawke for having sex with him. This really isn't an issue of homosexuality or homophobia, but he's just a video game character to me and I'd honestly rather keep the game about the game, the universe, the story and character interactions and not focus on the sexual overtones available in the game.
You're also right that I've unfairly singled out Gay Fenris as the epicenter of the whole disconnect between myself and the fan-fiction stuff. I didn't take into account gay Merril, or Gay Varic or gay Anders.

I'm thinkin'... naw.
I had always thought "good fanfiction" = people actually trying to get the characters and everything right... so it really seems like you are reading about the characters and not a buncha OCs.
Why I stopped reading fanfiction. Ran into way too many stories chock-full of ooc-ness. Horrifying.
