I've heard that Dragon Age 2 will be the dark second chapter darker - grittier - sexier, and I'm wondering what this means.

Are they talking about changes in the environmental art? The story and characters?

I imagine it's the same as ME2 just marketing lingo.

Really I didn't see much in ME2 that was darker than ME1.

Well, Isabela wears a black thong, so that's darker and sexier (allegedly). I'd rather not wonder how gritty her nether parts are, though.

Now seriously, I'd bet that's just another marketing slogan, like spartans pressing awesome buttons.

I don't consider any BioWare RPG to be dark or gritty accept sexy. :D

Each copy of the game will arrive covered in dirt, unidentifiable grime and with a huge pair of boobs attached to it.

Darker, Grittier, Sexier is Marketing talk which roughly translates to:

"Please buy me"

Other than that, I'm assuming it has to do with story and characters vs. environment. Kirkwall has a lot of white granite/marble to be dark looking. It probably has a better public utilities department than any city in Ferelden so there's not much room for grit. I don't know about sexier, Ferelden had a lot of hot chick statues holding bowls...

Wouldn't you say that slogan reflects am actual change in the game?

The art design. The companion missions (Samara, Miranda, Garrus, Jacob, and Jack). People being frozen, kidnapped, and rendered into goo.

At least it's better than "dark second act".

Right because we all know that was so much lighter when we was seeing people implaed on husks in th first one.

Really? I don't consider seeing someone turned to goo as being "darker and ediger." and Jack...well I just thought Jack was a mess in a bad way.

Everything was pretty much told instead of shone. There's nothing dark about that.

The main plot of DA:O was no, if less, darker then the Lord of the Rings and It doesn't call itself a "Dark Fantasy". I think it's the blood level and *strippers* that they are going by.

I don't think we've seen enough to make me think that is going to be darker or grittier. But since that comes mostly from the story, I doubt we'll see enough to make a judgment.
We can judge about sexier, as that mostly art and we've seen some variety on in-game screenshots. If your concept of sexier includes breasts the size of Vatican and ripped barechested horny men, then yes, it's sexier.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that the ripped barechested horny men also happen to wear tight leather pants. Make of that what you will.

I hope it means that the champion will have to make some tough choices, like saving some places and sacrificing others (similar to Awakenings). But it's a marketing slogan, so it could simply mean companions in underwear.

I have to agree about the dark and gritter. Though I don't think anything will ever disturb me more than Broodmother.

And

On a side note a far should a game go in showing verses telling?

The breasts are probably the same size as they were in Origins.  Now, the stripperific outfits, on the other hand...

Honestly, was that big, red arrow on Bethany's chest pointing down really necessary?

It was, a bit, but I just turned up my gamma and everything was fine.
