Singularity isn't the best BT for a Sentinel anyway. I'd strongly recommend a weapon talent (ARs are probably best for their balance). Why? Because default Sentinels have terrible firepower- they get only very basic pistol training (6 levels only as opposed to 12), and on Insanity, you need some decent weapon training. A Bastion Sentinel with a good throw and lift (along with a few points in decryption and Medicine and a point in Stasis) has excellent crowd control as it is- no need for Singularity. Also overload magnifies weapon damage (a good synergy with a weapon talent).

Something to consider as far as weapon training goes, a spectre X pistol running basic marksman with no mods does 367.5 with no damage bonus. It also doesn't cost you any talent points you wouldn't have spent anyway. An unmodded spectre X AR does 384.  So don't overvalue a weapon bonus

But you must also consider how bad the pistol is against moving targets in comparison to the AR. The pistol's slower rate of fire means that it's much easier to miss moving targets. Also Overkill reduces overheating better than Marksman does which means you aren't forced to use mods that reduce overheating. Standard Marksman probably won't be up all the time either (unless you always run with a couple of Medical Exoskeletons).

@bad king

I ended up bringing my sniper rifle over >> apparently i just can't play ME with out my baby

the first one i tried was with the AR however i know where i went wrong with the first sentinel XD
I treated Throw and Lift like weapons talents and completely neglected the Sentinel tree itself. Typically with my leveling process for Adepts, Soldiers, and Infiltrators i only half that tree by endgame and i only put 4 into spectre everything else goes into class specific abilities or the guns i like. After i maxed out the sentinel tree everything dies like.......imagine.................................................i have no equivalent example to explain how fast thigns die xD

but yeah after i did that i worked on my sniper rifle a bit not as much as i typically do but just a bit and now everything at any range dies

Snipers are certainly viable for Sentinels since they will give you an edge in range (Sentinels are seriously lacking in ranged power). I've personally never played as a SR Sentinel however, so I can't tell you much more than that.  : p

Yeah you can't rely on Throw and Lift for damage on Insanity- their main use is for controlling and locking down the battlefield while you kill incapacitated enemies with your weapons.

so i've noticed XD i'm not big on the biotics in ME much better at the tech powers but yeah >> those things sorta suck for damage <.<

and inregards to the sniper sentinel. I'd say it plays alot like an infiltrator but with 2 biotic powers and less pistol prowess that and you die much faster when your shields drop.

You should probably be running medical exoskeletons on a sentinel anyway.  The reduction in power recharge is worth it.  I've never had an issue hitting moving targets with the pistol. Plus we're talking about a sentinel.  The target should be lifted stasised or neural shocked so that you're shooting at a stationary target.  While marksmans not up renew a power.  I'm not saying a weapon is a bad choice for a sentinel, just not the only one.

The other thing is that marksman also will improve the value of any mods you use.  So if you start figuring mods marksman becomes even better.  Since the increase from the mods is applied to the extra shots.

With a singularity bonus a sentinel can lock down a room every bit as effectively as an adept.  The only biotic talent lacking at that point is warp.  You can sub for that with overload.  It's not as effective at damage reduction, but it has the bonus of doing heavy area effect shield damage.

the sniper sentinel is my second favorite class after a singularity vanguard. the snetinel is a great support class. it allows me to use wrex and ashley and i just send them shot gun totting into the middle of a room, i crouch behind cover and snipe enemies swarming my team mates. adding a snipoer rifle to a support class makes way too much sense.

So Singularity was a bad suggestion, :D

I thought of it as the panic button when I needed some breathing room, but I can see why it's unnecessary.

No it was a good suggestion. When you get it as a bonus power you can put points into it straight away unlike the Adept which has to spend a heap of points in something (i think warp) first. As I said, the game is hardest when you first get off the citadel, quite early. At stage your powers are very undeveloped and every experience point vital. At that stage stasis is no good because you cant shoot enemies in it. And you don't have enough points to invest in a weapon talent either. That is why Sentinel is good on insanity, it is the best balanced when the game is at the hardest point.

Right now I’m playing a Sentinel on Insanity with the Energy Drain as my bonus talent. I tend to play very aggressive so my primary style is to rush the target and shoot them in the face with a shotgun. Combined with the blast wave from the tech armor, the Sentinel appears to be the one class that has something for any situation.

Of course… I still love the Vanguard.

Well we've been discussing ME 1 sentinel not ME 2 sentinel.  So no energy drain for you.  :)
