Zaeed: So how'd you deal with it?
Joker: What? I... ah, don't hurt me.
Zaeed: Relax. I just want to know how you dealt with the old Normandy blowing up.
Joker: Well what else was there to do but deal? I got grounded. No flying, teaching arrogant teenagers through sims. I just killed time with vids and games.
Zaeed: I understand how you felt.
Joker: You do?
Zaeed: Yeah. When Jessie stopped firing, I killed that turian with my bare hands and then painted the end of the barrel with his blood. So that she would know she did it.
Joker: O_O I see. She, ah, got, um, a proud death.
Zaeed: Damn right. It was good to talk. *walks away*
Joker: Commander?
Shepard: Joker?
Joker: Could I install a door or something for the cockpit to keep the "crazies" out? You know, since killing the pilot would be counterproductive?

[Any party member at some point or another during ME2]: "That's ME you're shooting!" or "Watch it!" or "Shepherd, cease fire!" or "Stop shooting me!" or "Ow! That was me!"

Shepherd: "Then stop standing in front of me like an idiot!" or "When I clearly have the best weapons and I'm clearly the best marksman, don't you think standing in front of me is generally a bad idea?"

Garrus: Slow down, this isn't a joyride. Atmospheric re-entry at 15 gees is dangerous. You're melting the shields.
Joker: Yes sir commander hardass. Oh wait...you're not the commander, just a regular, run of the mill, hardass.
Garrus: I wasn't...
Joker: In fact in all matters of piloting I outrank you.
Garrus: What are...
Joker: So I'm ordering you to zip it. And lighten up well you're at it, you're worse than EDI.
Garrus: What's that?
Joker: What?
Garrus: Eight-O-clock, five hundred feet. Signatures indicate two Blue Suns gunships. It might be time to test out the new missile system.
Joker: Now that's more like it Garrus. Glad to see you're following orders. I have a visual.
Garrus: Yes, orders. They're heading for the base.
Joker: The only place they're heading is hell...targets locked...birds are in the air...YEAH...how do ya like that you sons of...
Garrus: I find you guilty of negligence by engaging an enemy while possessing a needlessly depleted shield. You will report to the com room on the Normandy at 0600 for discipline.
Joker: What! you can't do...
Garrus: Oh but I can. When you engaged in an experimental weapons test, you ceded all rank to me.
Joker: Son of a...
Garrus I'm also ordering you to "zip it".

SO TRUE. One of the major reasons I play Vanguard. Nobody blocks your shots. :-)

Especially annoying is when you play Infiltrator. Just lined up the perfect headshot with your Widow. Then you see your scope blocked by a squadmate's back. Then you pull the trigger anyway.

[Femshep and Liara, romanced (cause lesbians are hot)]
[Liara is in the med bay, unconscious from a wound that might be fatal]

Garrus: She's going to be fine Shepard, Doctor Chakwas and Doctor Michel are the best in the business.

Shep: I know Garrus

Tali: I'm sure she has taken worse, Shepard. After all, she IS one of your squad, she won't go down easy.

Wrex: Heh, you got THAT right, especially with her biotics, we biotics are a force to be reckoned with.

Shep: She took a bullet that was meant for me

..............

Virmire Survivor: Lets go guys, we have to prep for the next mission. Commander, see you in 20. Give her my best when she wakes up.

[Everyone walks out except Shepard, sitting by Liara's bedside]

Shep:...Liara, I....I'm sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. You......ever since we met, I know I wanted to share my life with you. *Shepard grabs her hand and moves closer*

Shep:..I never been in love, Liara. When I died-

*Shepard pauses from a moment*

Shep:..when I died, in space, all that I could think about was you, how I was leaving you. My last thought was about the night we expressed our love physically to each other before Ilos. I went peacefully.

Shep: I'm not going to let you die, Liara. You did not give up on me when I died, you, and only you, are the reason why I came back.

*Liara is unresponsive*

*Shep gets closer, grasping her hand tighter*

Shep: Damnit, Liara, I meant it I wanted to have children with you, after all this is over. I want to spend our lives together, having our little blue children run around. Dont give up on me.

Shep: I need you Liara..........I need you to recover, cause I can't make it on my own

Shepard: Garrus...

Garrus: Yes?

S: I... Why do you always throw yourself into whatever fire I start?

G: Ah, Shepard. What would you do without me?

S: I don't know. *huggs Garrus*

G: Ah... look, Shepard. It's a part of my job. Keep the galaxy safe and all that.

S: If you'd never met me *touches his scars* you wouldn't hurt.

G: *sighs* You're wrong. If I'd never met you, I'd still be houding for the C-Sec. You gave me a purpose. And companionship. And... more.

S: More? Garrus, I don't want you to be here if you are-...

G: *annoyed* Don't you understand Shepard? This is about the Reapers! And this is about the galaxy!

S: I... I thought that we-...

G: And this is about you. *looks at Shepard uncertainly* I can't walk away if I know that you are still in that fire. And I'll do my best to get you out, because you certainly won't be trying.

S: Oh Garrus!

G: Yeah, I know. But don't tell me that you feel guilty. Because I'm not the one that this crap is being forced upon.

S: I... thank you.

G: *doesn't meet her eyes* I don't think that you see this clearly. I was shot. But you are the one hurting.

S: If you don't want this...

G: I've never wanted anything more. *smiles suddenly* But don't let it get to your head. You're not the flower amongst the thorns. You're just the only thorn that's in a comfortable spot.

S: *huggs him tighter* I'm glad to be a thorn. That way... I'll have no reason to wither.

This is some of the best writing I have ever seen. Truly, truly touching.

If you came up with those lines yourself, you are a great writer who deserves fame and fortune.

Praise! I love praise. And yes, it's a part of the story I'm working on. This doesn't come in until chapter 59 though.
I'm going to upload from prologue to chapter 4 when I'm done with grammar checkin and making sure the facts fit right.

Also: Keep writing guys! I love all your additions!

Tali: So you were enslaved at age six?

Thane: No, I began my training at age six

Tali: Was it your choice to begin training?

Thane: It was never my choice....

Tali: Then you were enslaved

Thane: I don't think you understand....

Tali: You were forced to do something you had no power over I understand that much

Thane: I still had the freedom to choose whether or not to do as I was told

Tali: That's not freedom. They would've killed you

Thane: It is still the freedom to make that choice

Zaeed: The best kind of freedom is the freedom to say: "I was only following orders"

Garrus: Why do you come out here?

Legion: We are observing

Garrus: Observing what?

Legion: Organic conversation, it....interests us

Garrus: Why?

Legion: We do not understand some show clear discomfort with working with non-human crewmembers but still try to feign friendlyness

Garrus: They're still warming up to us, I'm sure they'll come around

Legion: Data records show the Illusive man speaking of a ga;axy where there is no Council, only the Alliance and Cerberus

Garrus: I like to say that I'm a purple space cow....doesn't mean I am

Jack: Joker.

Joker: *mutters to himself* I can't friggin believe it.

Jack: I've got a question.

Joker: Yes?

Jack: You've been with miss boss before, right? On the old Normandy.

Joker: Yeah. We took down Saren. Why?

Jack: And she's always been like this?

Joker: Kills first and ask questions later?

Jack: *biotic blue light surrounds her* Don't screw around with me, creaking boy!

Joker: I'm not! Yes, fine, yes. She's always been like this.

Jack: *still surrounded by blue light* And she made the call to save the Council?

Joker: By radio, yes!

Jack: *drops her biotics* Thanks, Jocker. *leaves as if nothing has happened*

Joker: That's it. *into the intercom* Commander, I'm having EDI install a turret at the entrance to the cockpit. Just so you know. In case you die.

Shepard: What? Joker?

Joker: I swear, they're gonna friggin kill me commander. *to EDI* And make sure to put up a barrier as well. I'll bet they'll come knocking.

________________________________________________________________________________

Mordin: So, Garrus, tell me.

Garrus: Yes?

M: Cross-species intercourse can't be easy. Espescially for human and turian. How do you deal with it? What are the effects? Is it, in fact, pleasurable at all?

G: Why do you ask?

M: Because you have experiance in it. Experience I lack.

G: *amused smile* Don't tell me you're jealous.

M: That has nothing to do with it. I am trying to understand how such intercourse works. So that others may prepare themselves better.

G: *shakes his head* There are things that shouldn't be studied, professor.

M: On the contrary. This should be studied and analyzed. I think that this has to be monitored closely as well. I'd better set up cameras to record the next encounter.

G: O_O Hey, wait a minute professor.

M: Yes?

G: You know that there are extranet sites where you can watch this kind of stuff, right?

M: Oh?

G: Yes. Ask Joker about -...

Joker: No way, you're not getting past the turret.

G: Ask Shepard about it. From what I hear, she's been doing scenes out of something called Vaenia with Liara before.

Tali: So Grunt.

Grunt: What?

T: Your species is very endurant to almost any kind of decease.

G: So what?

T: And yet you always complain about the genophage.

G: I don't. But do you blame them? If half your newborns are dead at birth-...

T: It is very tragic, yes. But no krogan ever needs to spend the rest of his life in fear that a *tiny* hole in the suit lets in bacteria and kills you through fever.

G: Yeah, because most don't get that far.

T: And will never know discomfort.

G: Or sex.

T: O_O Now I have disturbing images I can't take away.

G: Oh yeah? I've had them since they got imprinted in the tank. Survive those images when you're only five weeks in growth and then tell me who's off worse.

T: I see... Very... Illuminating.

Garrus: Tali...

Tali: What's up?

G: Can we talk?

T: Sure.

G: When I joined up with Shepard, I knew that it would be rough. We were already under pressure form the Council back then. But the hunt for Saren. The fight to the death prospect. It kept everything else simple. Everything was black and white.

T: How has that changed? We're still facing a fight to the death.

G: When she died... When the Council disbanded us, everyone had somewhere to return to aside from me and Liara. But she knew that Shepard would come back. I didn't. My goal has been to do good for so long that I don't even remember what good is any more.

T: I think I understand. You feel like you're in over your head.

G: No. I have no problem with what's coming, I've already made that clear.

T: Then... what's wrong?

G: We all fight for something. For Shepard, for the Fleet, for the galaxy, for the Council.

T: And you don't? I thought that you of all people would fight for Shepard.

G: I'm saying this wrong. We all have a memory to go with our cause. Family, friends or things. But I don't remember the good things. All I seem to have left is that what's killing us. I know there's a chance I won't live, but dying for something I don't know is very depressing.

T: … I don't know what to say. But I do know this. From what you have told us, you weren't happy with C-Sec. Your father didn't like your ambition. You didn't have many supporters or friends. Maybe you don't have the memories you want because you never got them.

G: Then what? I fight because I'm ordered? Mercs and vigilantes don't do well with Shepard.

T: No. It's just that, while I already have my memory, my reason, you are creating your own right now. With Shepard and me and Joker and the rest.

G: *soft laugh* What a helluva way to find meaning in life.

T: True.

G: So what do you fight for?

T: For my homeworld. As I always have and as every quarian will. Do not worry for me. My dedication is set in stone.

Jack: Ah... Shepard?

Shepard: Yes?

J: Look... I know that I've said some **** about you and the crew.

S: I get it. You can't help yourself.

J: No. Shut up and listen, I ain't gonna repeat this. Ever.

S: *nods*

J: So... You're always talking to me. And you're not a total b***h like that cheerleader or a f**k head like that joke of a soldier. So... I hope that you don't die a painful death.

S: Ah... thanks.

J: ****, no wait. That's not what I meant. I meant... *mutters to herself, debating* I meant that I like you and it's kinda cool, being a part of this crew. Cuz', you know, you haven't screwed me over yet or anything like that. So... thanks.

S: I... Thanks Jack. I promise not to repeat this to anyone, don't worry.

J: Yeah. Whatever. Just... *leaves*

_________________________________________________________________________________

Thane: The final battle is coming.

Samara: So it does.

T: Is there anyone you are worried for? Or does you code prevent you from such emotions?

S: Emotions aren't prohibited. Merely inadvisable. And yes, I am. My daughters. The two remaining ones. They were sad to hear of Morinth's death but glad that I was well. They don't know what's coming but they can feel that something is. I think that everyone can feel that something is about to happen.

T: I think you might be right. I told Kolyat little of our task. Only that we had to stop the Collectors. As far as he know, the Reapers are a myth. But in our talks, he has mentioned a tension building.

S: How is Kolyat?

T: … We are at a difficult stage. Sometimes he opens up, allows me to offer him my support. At other times he's...

S: I understand.

T: I hope that, even if I'm not here to fight the Reapers and in the aftermath, he will be well. I would send him somewhere. To keep him safe. But where is there to go?

S: It is quite a dilemma. One that I can sympathize with.

T: Yes, indeed. Losses will be inevitable. I will pray that they won't be too high.

S: You pray to Amonkira?

T: Yes.

S: Then so shall I. And if our voices are heard, then maybe our death might bring life to our children.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Grunt: Ah, I can't stand this tension.

Zaeed: This group is a bunch of drama queens.

Grunt: Why will they not relish the battle to be fought, instead of this desperate sulking?

Zaeed: That, my krogan friend, is a very wise sentiment.

Grunt: Humph. You might just be enough of a krogan to come out harder than you went in.

Zaeed: You might be enough human to go in the right way.

Grunt: *laughs* If all krogans were like you, we would have glory and blood of our foes, instead of piles of newborn corpses.

Zaeed: I... don't know what to say to that.

Grunt. Good. I was afraid you'd make a fertility pun.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Keiji recording: “I love you, Kasumi”

*Kasumi shuts the recording off and connects to Zaeeds security cameras*

Jacob: Listen, Miranda.

Miranda: Yes?

J: All this stuff about Reapers... We're not going to come out looking well.

M: ... I doubt it. Shepard might. But we..?

J: Yeah. And you just got to know your sister.

M: What did you want Jacob?

J: Look. I have regrets. There are things I wanted to do a long time ago. Guitar lessons I never went to. Old friends I never got to say goodbye to. Old friends I never got to tell how important they are to...

M: Look, we've been over this. We aren't... compatible. I like working with you Jacob, but that's it.

J: Compatible? I don't think that compatibility really matters in this crew. Garrus and Shepard. Joker and EDI.

EDI: I resent that comparison. We are-...

M: Don't listen in EDI.

EDI: Sorry.

M: I don't know.

J: We're not Cerberus any more. What went wrong last time... it's not the same any more.

M: It's not.

*Kasumi shuts off the camera as they draw closer to each other*

K: So he's happy. *smiles and turns on Eiji's recording* I'm happy with you, Eiji.

Garrus: Samara, you're an officer of the law, correct?

Samara: Only in a sense. The Justicars follow a... higher code of Justice, though we do bind ourselves by Asari civil law.

G: But you can arrest criminals, correct?

S: Any criminal I were to hand over to Asari police would be arrested without question, yes.

G: Then why don't you?

S: Why don't I do what?

G: Why don't you arrest criminals? I know what occured when Shepard first found you: you had that Eclipse at your power and could have handed her over with ease. There was no reason you had to kill her. And your daughter-

S: Morinth was a monster, and I would perfer you not speak of her again.

G: Monster or not, you could still have taken her captive, knocked her out rather than killing her. If having her pay for her crimes was important, you should have arrested her and handed her over to authorities who could try her.

S: Omega has no authorities.

G: I never said it had to be Omega, and you know it.  You know Shepard would have done that for you. You know Cerberus would have the means to keep her subdued. You're avoiding the facts.

S: The fact is that Morinth was a criminal who deserved to die. Did you not share that save view not so long ago?

G: I did. I believed Sidonis deserved to die. Shepard persuaded me I was wrong.

S: And you would have been. Unlike you, however, I am sanctioned by a Code that shapes my actions. I am within their bounds, therefore I am justified. I have never strayed from their limitations. Killing the wicked is a part of that.

G: That's it? 'I'm allowed to, so I might as well?' That's all you have to say for yourself?

S: I have never claimed that my Code was merciful, or sympathetic, or kind. Only that it is Just.

G: I don't think you care about Justice. I think you were more interested in murdering your daughter without recrimination.

S: This conversation is over.

Zaeed: So, how long does this Oath of Conscription of yours to the Commander last?

Samara: The Oath of Subsumission expires when the mission complete, and not one second sooner. Have no fear, I will not break my Oath beforehand.

Z: Yeah, sure, I get that, but when does the mission end for you? Exactly?

S: Pardon?

Z: Does it end the moment Shepard's objective is achieved, like if she flips some switch to kill these bastards and they're dead? When you get to the Normandy? After the draw down? When we get to the next good port? After we leave you on some planet? Never? When does the mission end for you?

S: Does it matter?

Z: Hell yes it matters. Me, I'm done when I get the rest of my money after we kill them. Someone like Thane, he's probably done when he can get back home to his family. The Commander, the Commander's one of those people who's never done, cause that mission is about the Reapers, and the crew here's never done until they quit. Everyone else has a simple enough point. But you?

S: What about me?

Z: I wanna know whether I can relax on the way back while in a ship filled with war criminals, terrorists, criminals, Commander Shepard, and an Asari Justicar, or whether I should save everyone the trouble and shoot you in the head before you stop and be done with it.

I love it

Legion: Grunt-Urdnot has not logged in to N7: Medal of Duty in 14 days, 3 hours, and 29 minutes.

Grunt: Hmph. The game's for cowards, and weaklings. Who dies from getting shot in the leg?

Legion: Most organics suffer severe hemorrhaging if the upper portions of their appendages are damaged.

Grunt: It just pisses a krogan off.

Legion: Your N7 avatar is an approximation of a human-infantry. The M-92 Mantis can penetrate Alliance-standard kinetic barriers and still deal significant damage.

Grunt: It's stupid. I'd crush you if I got in close with the Katana.

Legion: That is precisely why we avoid close-quarters combat.

Not exactly squad banter, per se, but...

Turian Councilor: "Ah yes, Reapers...we have dismissed that claim".

...ten minutes later...

Harbinger: "Well?"

Turian: "I blew him off. We're safe."

G: Shaxni? The Relay 314 Incident? You were there?

Z: Yeah, First Contact War. What a **** that turned out to be. First the satelites were blown up, then the orbital bombardment started, then a bunch of ugly mother****ers came down and started shooting up the place even more.

G:...

Z: Me, I was just some punk with a gun back then. More bullets than sense. Did the patriotic thing, joined up with a unit that had lost half its men, played guide while some hotshot with a sniper rifle started taking us out one by one, starting with my friend Ben.

G: I'm... sorry to hear that.

Z: Nah, don't be. Ben was an idiot for volunteering to stand up like that, give us a chance to locate the source of the shot. Remember thinking the time 'what a tosser.' Worked, though.

G: What happened to the Turian?

Z: Dunno. Buried him alive in the rubble, I think. Tank fire does that to a building.

G: And how does that remind you of me, dare I ask?

Z: Weren't you paying attention? He was a good shot who took down a lot of idiots. Just like you.

I do love a good Zaeed war story.  Now someone do Zaeed and Wrex in a bar tossing stories back and forth.
