When you're looking at new gameplay videos you're not looking at an old build. You're looking at the current build as it is today and I'm ****ing tired of this excuse being used all the time.

Yeah right. So not only did they compile a brand new, current build just today, but they also captured that footage and filmed it all today.

Thanks for the insight.

I'd say that the comments people post in game videos on YouTube usually reflects a much larger players base than any forum can ever match. Let's see what they say.

Dragon Age 2 x Dragon Age Origins - GUI Interface Comparison Image IPB

Watching the 1080p at full screen might be more expressive of my point with this vid. Specially if one pays attention to the details like font and health bars. DA2 is ugly and well, it's not something a DA:O team would have done deliberately, I dare imagine, if it is the same team in both games. Feels like somEAone pushed them into "cost reduction"...

Just wanted to chime in. I like the DAO portraits and UI, but I still think DAO UI was still a bit clunky. I would like to see DAO circular portraits, but I'd like those portraits to be smaller. I think the images of the characters were too large in DAO, shrink that by maybe 5-10%.

Please, if nothing else, give us the option on both pc and console to minimize or hide the UI.

Okay, so maybe they did it yesterday. *rolls eyes*

I would love to read the logical proof that explains this connection.

I question the rationale of game developers that choose to release gameplay videos of old builds which are not indicative of the most current build. That makes absolutely no sense to me.

Just do a mod with circular portraits and status bars, in the upper left hand corner. Most games, in fact, use this method now. Why obscure the player's view?

I thought DA's UI was one of the better I've seen. Beautifully done.

Like I said.. it is a feeling. Detailed, more laboured, better designed stuff, "usually" takes more time, more people thinking about them and working together. That "usually" also means higher cost, if anything else, due to the man/hour cost.

But I really want to believe what's been just commented there:

"True it does look rather simple and plain but that is to be expected. Trust me the final version will look good, maybe even better than Origin's GUI."

He sounds like he knows more than he can tell. *kneels down and pray to the Maker to make it so*

There is no proof. It's all speculation at this point. However, when I or others make an assumption based on early impressions that DA 2 is not taking full advantage of the current gen of GPUs for the PC and being directly ported from the consoles- I consider current PC gameplay videos showing tons of jagged edges from a lack of anti-aliasing being the beginnings of the logical proof we were looking for.

Looks like Bioware is doing their best alienating DA2 from its predecessor and audiences in all possible areas. What is the reason behind the UI being changed so dramatically because I do not honestly get why. In favour of what? Simplicity? The new UI does not fit the DA universe at all.

Bioware seems to be doing everything the other way round these days. Truly sad.

ME2 is a memento for many. For BW, ME2 is an inspiration for DA2. That's what it all comes down to.

It's not the actual day (the 16th of December) that I'm taking issue with, it's the totally arbitrary assumption that everything is current as of the day the video is released. You don't know when the video itself was shot, and you don't know when the combat footage was captured, and you don't know when the build that combat footage was captured from was compiled. Those are three cumulative reasons why "it's an old build" is a valid guess, and believable.

The new UI is horrendous. Its generic and modern looking, not to mention out of place in the DA universe. DA:O had a beautiful UI. Not to start a console vs PC war, but I have no doubt the interface is heavily influenced by development on the consoles. Larger icons, larger fonts obviously to cater to console gamers who sit metres away from the TV.

Seems fitting enough to me. I don't see where people are seeing "futuristic" in it. It uses more transparency and it's a bit more "simple", maybe, but that's about it.

And I don't see how it's a cost cutting measure making it more simple. It was a deliberate design decision. It would have cost less to simply use DAO's UI or make slight improvements onto it.

How unfortunate.

Ignore anything I said then...clearly everyone with something negative to say about BioWare is automatically right, no matter how irrational their points are.

I never said I was right or wrong. I gave reasons why I feel the way I do.

Anyway lad, no one likes an ass kisser. You guys think you're getting ahead in life but you just end up sacrificing your dignity and the respect of your colleagues.

So explain to me why anti-BioWare is okay but pro-BioWare is ass-kissing?

What if I just think it's stupid for some random person to declare what does or doesn't belong in the DA universe?
What if I just think it's stupid to assume that everything in a video is current as of that video's release?

Of course you reserve the right to dismiss any dissenting opinion as "ass-kissing," as though no one could actually hold those opinions, and their sole motivation must be to try to curry favor with BioWare. How convenient for you.

I like the DA 2 UI.

I don't like the DA 2 UI. The one in Origins is better.

They're not. Just like everyone with something positive to say about BioWare just because they cannot accept even the best game devs sometimes screw things up, is not either. That's just "denial". Fact is, the UI showed in the video is awful, particularly if you compare to that of DA:O.

I'm playing Kotor2 right now. For the first time. Heck, even that one looks better! But the one in the video definitely would suit a Kotor3 or something alike.

I would love to be optimistic and think that it is indeed an old build and the release will have an awesome UI that really fits DA universe. But considering what's been said recently about DA2 by devs themselves, I have to think that it is PC gamers that don't fit into DA Universe anymore.

To present the information better? I'll be able to track health bars with my peripheral vision now, and I couldn't really do that in DAO -- I always found myself focusing on the portrait for an instant.

I don't think the new interface looks very good, but I can see how I might like using it more.

LOL, well aren't they? They created the damn thing. No offense to Martanek, but why should he be the final arbiter of what doesn't belong in the DA universe?

I get that someone might hold the opinion that the UI doesn't feel like DA to them, but I'm of the opinion that if the creators of the DA universe put something in the DA universe, then by definition it fits the DA universe.

Maybe that's just an indirect way of saying I think the UI is fine.
