I like Meer's voice, but if I had to choose...

Brian Blessed. Shepard's alive?

Or Patrick Stewart, my Paragon Shep is based on him after all.

Oh look, this topic again.

OP I set a challenge for you. Get a microphone, get one of Shepard's speeches, record yourself doing it, put it on the net for us all to hear and I'll bet any money you fail at sounding anything as good as Meer does.

As for the choices you and some others have made, never going to happen. Why? Well, other than either them or their agents seeing doing video games as 'slumming it', there is then the fact of how much dialogue Shepard has and how much it would cost to hire such people to do that many lines. That and of course the ability to get them to do any additional work in any future DLCs.

Fredvdp pretty much summed up the point of Meer's performance, Meer is perfectly fine, he does a great job and is just as good as Hale who I also think is fine.

Bashing of either of them is just childish.

There is no age limit for awesomeness.  Plus it's the future, genemods and voice reconstruction and all sorts could make it work.  You wouldn't be able to tell his age anyway, Pat is awesome.  Did I mention about the awesome?

I wouldnt cast anyone else, Meer is part Shepard now, so I would keep him (I mostly play femshep though).

Mark Meer. He is the iconic voice for Shepard, when someone hears his voice, they know it's Mass Effect. Can't say the same thing for Hale.

Oh, that would be classic.

You know Brian is doing a voice for a GPS now?  www.youtube.com/watch

I'm getting so sick of this non-argument. It's perfectly possible to think someone is bad at something even if you're worse. I think Heineken tastes like horsepiss. Is my opinion worthless because I can't make beer myself?

I think we can agree Mark Meer is not a bad actor, but his depiction of Shep is a bit mono-toned and for lack of  a better word, dull. Who would you cast in his place?

It's called deadpan. A character who's been thorugh a lot would indeed talk like that and Mark Meer's renegade performance is perfect. In fact, most voice actors tend to overact. Mark Meer's performance is one of the most natural in the series.

This right here. All of it. I don't need someone over reacting to a situation in the game. His deadpan delivery of things is perfect for me. So that's that.

Meer could do a lot better. There is a lack of emotion in most lines. Don't get me started on femshp voice. Thats the 1 reason I don't make a fem shep. Meer has SOME changes in tone at least. Not just a monotone the whole game.

I vote a silent character with Morgan Freeman narrating my every movement.

edit: hookit on fonix rilly werkit fir mee. Ima ooner rolle stoodint!

Such a thing would melt people's ears by sheer awesomeness. Not a good idea.

I think he does a fantastic job as male Shep. Jennifer Hale drops the ball as femshep, but I definately don't want to see Mark replaced.
