This game loads very quickly on my system... as it should... most of the time. Sometimes, however, it takes anywhere from 30 seconds - 5 minutes to load an area. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I would do a search but that doesn't seem to be working.
The only information I can offer up is that after everytime this happens and the game finishes loading it says Game Saved. So my best guess would be there is something screwy with saving during loading.

have you tried setting processor affinity to only the last processor?
#3
Posté 13 novembre 2009 - 01:36
I have not. I will give it a shot and see if it happens. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be something I can repeat so it may take a while to see if it works or not.

sure, let it run and see what happens, people have been reporting progressively longer load times and this seems to help in certain cases (working on compiling a list of which processors are affected specifically)

Going from picking up the female mage (fairly early in game, 1st time playing) to loading the first city I have let the loading screen sit for up to an hour. Never finished loading. Tried changing the affinity to cpu 1, deleted all but my last save as is still resulting with the same issue. I'd be happy with a 5 minute wait at this point, since so early in the game I am considering restarting, but can't see how that will fix the issue once I get back to that point in the game..

and your OS? also how do you have the graphics set? 9500GT is a fairly weak card and I'd recommend nothing over medium with no AA

Windows xp, is right at medium

which driver version do you have for the card? and did you try loading the save with the sound disabled?
#11
Posté 13 novembre 2009 - 02:20
6.14.11.8250 for version
No I haven't tried w/out sound. Unfortunately atm can not try anything involving game due to other obligations.
Thank you very much for responding and hope to continue

you might try updating the drivers for the 9500... and also try disabling the sound when you get a chance and let us know how that goes

i know this might be the case here but I know from exp with some other games that increasing the page settings can help if it is a case of load times increasing as the game goes on

the OPs system has plenty of RAM and if windows is managing the page file (default) it will take care of that issue, thanks Macayle

I have updated the drivers, and ran w/ no sound and still getting the same freeze during that load.

when you pulled up the task manager, how many processes does it show are running?
#17
Posté 13 novembre 2009 - 07:16
there ends up being 31 running when I pull up manager.
Not sure if this helps, but the freeze is going from Flameth hut (picking up the mage) going to the World Map where I move to Lothering. Changed graphics settings to low, no sound, updated drivers.

there's a link to microsoft update at the bottom of the first post here
run it, allow it to install anything it wants and when the window loads pick "custom" instead of "express" then install all the optional and hardware updates along with any high priority ones... then report back with the results please

A lot of people are having this issue and there is no certain fix for it yet (not even a known cause for certain). BioWare is aware of it (as they mentioned in another of the 50 threads about this) and seem to be trying to sort it out. No point starting another thread trying to fix it. Hopefully BioWare will sort this out soon. They really should make a sticky about this so people will stop making pointless topics about it.

Quaxo... we've identified at least 4 processor groups with fixable issues on the user end... both AMD and Intel quad cores can be fixed by running them on the last two cores, and AMD dual cores can be fixed by running them on the last core only. I've got verified fixes for at least 40 machines from that alone. Also, running i7s on the last 4 cores works as well and I've got a half dozen of those documented as well.

If you say so, good for you.
Still, it will most likely be patched soon. It's not that hard to exit the game and restart it every hour or so. The "workarounds" aren't working for many people (what's 40 compared to the number of people actually facing this problem?). It should be sorted soon enough.

those are the ones who've bothered to come back and let me know... I've not had anyone say "this doesn't work" and then not fixed it because of another technical end-user problem
the "patch" I expect to see will probably be identical to the one in Neverwinter Nights... a cpu affinity toggle in the .ini file
if you have the problem, let's try to fix it Quaxo... if not, then stop wasting my time by telling people that it won't work because you've got no room to talk

Ended up downloading 7 optional, 1 hardware. Still getting same issue. All these are on restarts of the game after fresh reboots normally. Once the freeze happens I have no choice but to close the program from task manager.
