I'd like a bayonet. I never play biotic Sheps, but I imagine a fistfight with one would be quite a horrifying experience.

why?

I say no to melee weapons.

If they do put on make it a knife or just keep ur fist.

Just keep the melee simple, either a combat knife or a bayonet - nothing more complex needed.

I wouldn't mind having a wrist blade like weapon for melee.

Probably because the Biotic characters in the books do all sorts of close combat attacks, amplified by their Biotics.  At least that's what I've heard.

No. Maybe a biotic-charged punch or a Spartan/Biotic kick, but that'd be about it. Melee-oriented weapons have no place in a world where Isaac Newton is top dog.

Something super simple like a bayonet would be cool.

i actually want melee removed. i never use the B button because its linked to melee. id rather have B be used for another mappable ability. an important aspect of ME3 on the consoles is going to be controller config, and allowing for more hotkeys is the best thing they could do. i even think bioware should remove the Dpad functioning for squad mates and allow it to be used for abilities instead.

1. Play on the PC if you want more hotkeys
2. Melee is one of the best ways to kill a guy, locks them in place, does a lot of damage, conserves ammo, assassin's cloak + melee = rape, ect...
3. Play on the PC if you want more hotkeys

i dont think i get where your going. i understand the PC has a bunch of mappable hotkeys, which is entirely why im asking if bioware could allow for the consoles to have a few more then the given 3. if your suggesting i go buy a new computer and a new ME2 disc, then i dont think your much help. im also not saying melle is a wastefull manuver, as a matter of fact i think its much too pwerfull as is. it seems to do equal damage to the carnafax, which doesnt make much sense to me. if bioware implements more melee into ME3 then i want my biotics to be euqally more powerfull. if you want a lightsaber that cuts orf bodyparts, then i want biotics that do the exact same thing. id even like the overheating weapons brought back in ME3, just because it opens up another button on my controller instead of reloading. i want the freedom fallout3 gives me with my controller options.

But shotguns don't beat a vanguard charge and then a giant hammer to the face.

I'd be for it!

Of course! I would be so down. Who can't enjoy a laser sword etc?

If you want a bunch of hotkeys don't play a console game. I don't want my lovely punch of awesome removed.

Hell no. Doesn't belong in the universe. Do you see modern day warfare backpadeling and using melee arms? No, you don't. Mass Effect, based in the future and furturistic weapons. Hand to hand went from sword to sword and guns came along and it has not stopped. Because safety and efficiency. So thats where it stays.

Well, I don't think I would like actual melee weapons. But a quick punch with the barrel (rifle) or pommel (pistol) of your currently equipped weapon could be useful (especially against that darn husks).

How is that any different from the melee attack we already have?

@adam_grif:

By the time, I submitted I also noticed: Hey, isn't that exactly what we have right now (did not play the game for a couple of weeks).

....or couldnt i have a console game that allowed for the flexability of a PC players keyboard? im not advocating for the removal of the PC version of ME2.

personally i think all of the controllers buttons should be mappable. im sure 99% of you have played fallout3 so id like to compare to that game. maybe i dont like using melee, or the Dpad for my squadies. maybe id like to click the left analog stick and crouch. maybe id like to play an engineer and never have to enter the powerwheel because i have all my needs mapped! thatd be awesome.

haha wow you're a smart one.

Do you actually think anyone in real life could take a shot from an anti material rifle? The answer is no.Guns are not efficient at all in mass effect.
As a vanguard I melee at least half of the enemies I kill and I think it would be awesome to be able to use a knife or a move to push peoples guns away from me.

As someone before metioned, Resident Evil 5 style animations would ba a nice adition to the game. No qte's though (hate qte's). Simply when you kill an enemy with a melee, there is a short animation of Shepard kicking someone's 4$$. And it could be a class specific animation also. For instance Soldiers could beat someone with the weapon currently equiped, Infiltrators could do a neck snap from behind, Adepts could have a Samara style shattering biotic punch, Engineers could shove an omni tool to someone's neck and electrecute/incinarete them, etc...And if there's an added invincibility and/or some other property to the animation, it could have an actual tactical usefulness besides just looking cool.
The melee in ME2 is a pretty important game mechanic, especially if you are playing a CQC Shepard. So I think it deserves more than a simple elbow to the face every single time you press the melee button. In other words, there is is much room for improvement for the melee mechanic in ME3.

sure guns will always be "weak" in your mind. theres no such thing as pistols in third person shooters becasue most enemies take 2 clips. that wont be going away any time soon. melee is basiacally more effective then one shot from a pistol, thats the problem i see. and i surely dont want a knife added to gameplay, when my freaking biotics dont even work half the time as it is. they have alot more of imporoving then adding laughable weapons like a knife. id bet all my money on bioware doing absolutely nothing more with melee in ME3.
