Okay, I had an issue with my DLC content so I reinstalled my games.  I went to create a new character and noticed that the eyes had no color - they remained black.  I removed all the extra mods adding different colors to the eyes, and still, nothing.  So, I reinstalled, thinking that somewhere in the reinstall an issue arose.  Well, I still have no eye color.  My son thinks I'm nuts for being so bent about no eye color, but it's important to my RP!

So, does anyone have any ideas.  Please keep in mind that I'm rather clueless with the toolset, although I have started messing around with it...slightly.

Thanks!

The toolset is the source, usually, in your particular situation (the claim that DAO did work previously), but an uninstall and reinstall of the game should have removed whatever you messed up that way.  The usual  reason for this is very low end hardware, such as anything from Intel.

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/1709310

What video card do you have?  (Intel does not make any such.)  It is my belief that if the developers don't support something, there are often very good reasons that they do not.)  Are you using the same graphics device with the same video graphics driver (No, I did NOT say the newest) and same Dx9 version now as before?

Yup. I am, and I also have the latest driver (I checked for an update) so that's not an issue (computer is very new). That's why I'm confused. My second thought after the reinstall was to check my driver, and I made a point of reinstalling the Dx.

*throws hands up in air in frustration*

Again: NAME that card. It means something you probably do not know.  And if you do not even know what it is, you can get a copy of GPU-z from Major Geeks and install, then run that.

Sorry. Okay, graphics card is Intel® G41 Express Chip set. Latest version. (thanks for the link!)

I had nothing in the saves folder - I had deleted everything when I reinstalled.

The graphics card and Dx9 versions are absolutely the same from when I had originally installed the game.

Sorry, I asked about a video card; the game really requires an actual video card. By definition, a CARD is on an entirely separate, independent circuit board.  You claimed you had such a thing, and said that you had the game "running", but that is not a graphics card, and you should already have been well aware of that by now. It is not supported, it is not supposed to work, it is just more *Intel Crap". Sorry.  I never try to waste any of my time offering support to that sort of tinker toys.

Replace it.  Then see if the real thing does work. If the developers won't support something, it just seems wrong for the gamers here to turn around and try to do so instead.

@Eva: Sad to say you're going to have to deal with the no eye color. As Gorath said your chip is below requirements. The fact that you're running the game at all is pretty good for that chip.

The goodnews is that if this is a desktop you can easily replace your card. The bad news is if you're using a laptop.

Which are you gaming on?

@Ryzaki: It's a desktop. I just don't understand. It worked perfectly before I had to reinstall. Must've been a fluke. What would you suggest?

@Gorath - you know, you need some etiquette lessons. You are obviously dealing with a techno-dud and yet you've mannerisms are sorely lacking any sense of helpfulness, just plain meanness (I'm not overly sensitive, either. I am a forum vet). If it so upset your sensibilities to help someone out on a issue you deem unreal, don't reply. It's also very rude to continually editing your original reply to make it look like I'm a complete moron and not responding to your questions.  That's just rude!  Trust me, we'll all be happier. Sheesh! They let anyone on these things, don't they?

It shouldn't have worked to be honest. I tried to run DAO on an intel card and it was horrifically laggy and hideous. I'm surprised it ran at all on yours...it might have been the rest of your specs dragging your GPU along. What settings do you have it on? The good part about this is that depending on your rig (computer) you might be able to get a much better card that can run it on all max settings.

Do you mind telling me your OS ? And the rest of your specifications?

The easiest way to do this is to use the run command and type DXDIAG in the command box and run. It should give you a program popup that tells you all your specs. I'm assuming this is a fairly new computer? If it is that should work.

The popup will have a tab that says "Save all information." click it and it should produce a text file. Name that whatever. Open it in notepad and paste everything in it on the board.

And while Gorath is abrasive he is pretty helpful. (Far more than I will be.) He just gets sick of people not reading the stickies.

Thanks, Ryzaki. Gorath may be helpful, but his abrasiveness makes it difficult to follow his advice. Esp. if he keeps changing his original post to make the poor techno-dud more of a fool. And, I did check out the stickies - I couldn't find my issue, although to be honest I didn't go through all, what, 900 pages of messages.

Yes, it is a fairly new computer. Here is the info. you asked for (it's probably more than you want to read):

Eva,

For what it's worth, I had this problem and I changed my graphics detail from Low to High and it fixed it. And the game still ran fine. I have an Intel card also.

Who knows? Maybe it will work for you too! Or maybe it was a fluke that it worked for me at all! ;)

That's fine.

Hm...everything checks out except the card if I'm reading this correctly.

Gorath: Would you be willing to recommend her a card to buy the play the game on decent settings? Medium at least so she can see eye color? Or is that not possible?

Edit: Though yes you can boost the settings that usually causes the game to slowdown. But if it somehow works go for it.

I expected a slowdown, but I lucked out somehow I guess. I'm a tech moron so I don't know the specifics. Only that it worked for me. :)

First...hey, hey hey Amy!

And, next, honestly, I'm not experiencing any game slow down. Really. None. Mostly it's the eye thing, and the occassional background flutter. Even now. I know, wierd, but true.

Hope you and yours aren't buried in snow! :D

Odd. But still that's great news.

Though if you plan on playing DA2 I would either invest in a console or start saving up for a computer where you can get all the bells and whistles.

Amy, my dear, I've been playing DA more than NWN myself. I know, I know...we are BAD!

Anyway, you, my dear, are a genius! I upped to 'high' and the eyes are back! It must've set to low when I reinstalled and I, being the numb techno-dud I am didn't think to change it. So, not only do I have the vanilla eye color back, I'm gonna go and reinstall my tints! Yay for me!

Ryzaki, thank you very much for your time and help. My computer is wonderful. But, I may splurge on a new card when DA2 gets it butt out.

In DA2's case it won't just be your card. Your processor also seems to be a bit on the low end side.

If you decide you want to play DA2 you should come back here and ask for advice before buying anything (or some other PC gaming site).

@Ryzaki. Thanks! I have actually been considering purchasing a computer (I'd like a lap top, but we'll see) simply for gaming. I will certainly come back and ask for advice.

A laptop will be expensive but I am a proud owner of my baby lappy. :P You really can't beat the convenience (or at least not as a college student who can't stand her roommate but wants to game).

That's EXACTLY what happened to me Eva! When I had to reinstall it somehow got set to low. Weird! Glad it worked and I'm far from a genius, but I'll take it. ;)

Ryzaki dear, if I have a lame-ass Intel HD Graphics Card will I be able to play DA2? I know it won't look awesome, but will it play?

I'm a laptop lover too...worth the extra $$$ for the convenience IMO.

I'm not sure. Usually speaking intel and the like are never offically supported but always have a chance (even if slim) of working. (And when they don't work someone will come up with some custom drivers to force it to work! ) So you'll probably have to wait until the game comes out and someone tries it with an intel chip.

Totally nothing better than getting away from my roomie and sitting in the warmth of the residence room.

Thanks! :) It does have DX11 so that's *something* at least, right? I'm an idiot, I know.

My college roomie was a raging jerk also. I had no laptop then so I was stuck with her. I'm officially jealous of you that you can take your games on the run!

Something sure. Keep your fingers crossed.

Ah. It was so so nice to get out of the room. Sit down in the quiet warm room and play DAO full blast without her glaring at me.

Me too, at least if you don't count playtesting Sanctum 3. I'm still building more in NWN than DA, though that'll change sometime in the (hopefully not too distant) future. ;)

Yep, that's what I would have suggested, especially since it was working before the reinstall. Kudos to Amy for actually giving a polite and helpful answer.

Ryzaki, thank you very much for your time and help. My computer is wonderful. But, I may splurge on a new card when DA2 gets it butt out.

If you do and you still want to be able to play NWN as well, then be careful of the new 400 series NVIDIA cards. I splurged for a GTX 470 when the 4 year old video card on my gaming rig died recently. It's near top of the line for the new NVIDIA GPUs, and Dragon Age is breathtaking and plays smooth as silk with it. But it has serious problems with choppy rendering in Neverwinter Nights that basically make it unusuable. From what I've read it's common to the whole 400 series of NVIDIA cards and drivers. I've got a ticket open with NVIDIA tech support and I'm trying to help them identify the cause and fix it. Fortunately, I can still play and build with NWN on my laptop, which has plenty of video horsepower for the job. ^_^
