There's just a lot of pesky wildlife. I think Real Wildlife mod adds even more.

Sibbi: I'd do anything to have that w****'s head on a platter - all I need to know is where she is.

Me: Good luck finding her from there.

Sibbi: ...amusing.

Said with no small amount of menace, I'm sure. It's so cute when people think they can take on the Dragonborn and live to tell the tale. You'd think that people would think twice about antagonising the guy who eats dragon souls every time he meets one, yet they still do.

Well he's been in Jail the whole story so I'm sure he had no idea who the person annoying him really was. So at least a little excusable in that particular case.

Well, it's official: The Rift is my least favorite Hold in the game. Besides Riften just being a piece of crap city, I can't seem to take a f***ing step out on the roads without being attacked by wolves, bears, or Frostbite spiders. It's literally reaching Cliff Racer levels of annoyance. >:(

Crap City? It's probably the most detailed in the game lol.

You obviously do not know what kind of things go on in Riften.
NOT SAFE FOR WORK. Seriously.

Wait wait wait, when did George R. R. Martin start writing for Bethesda?

Damn those vampires! In Riften I sprinted to the scene of a vampire attack. No way to get there faster. Still, the vampires had killed THREE named NPCs by the time I got there. I know people are claiming it's never a problem if you know what you're doing. I call BS, you just haven't had bad luck yet.

Other times they just get butchered by guards of course. But you can be really unlucky. I wish I could just sit down with the Bethesda employees who designed that and calmly and patiently explain to them why this is poor design. Bad Bethesda!

Wierd, in my game the Vampire or "traveler" doesn't turn hostile and start attacking until he actually sees me. my last two attacks have been in Whiterun, and the "traveler" simply walked right past the Alik'r warriors and Adrianna (at the forge) and then turned hostile right as I looked over at him from the Breezehome door.

I do find this whole controversy sorta Ironic though.  Before Dawnguard came out, the big gripe you heard were people complaining about essential NPCs.  ie.  why can't I kill X, how come Y is unkillable etc.    But now that these people  are sitting there watching NPCs  drop like flies, the gripes have suddenly  changed....

Silly Yrkoon, only PCs are allowed to kill innocent NPCs. Any NPCs that start killing other NPCs are infringing on YOUR rights to the lives of every single person in Tamriel.

I wonder what the deal with those two Alik'r is, anyway. What kind of bug possesses them to stand around the Whiterun gate with no care at all?

Well I never worried or complained about essential NPCs being unkillable. Before Dawnguard, it also annoyed me how dragons may actually kill non-essential NPCs, including merchants.

Olaf, I disagree. If you're not careful, the small towns can be wiped out. The merchants in even the large towns may be slain, never to come back. I don't see how that is good design. I understand that I am not supposed to control every aspect of the game world and I'm fine with that, but the population slowly being thinned out due to a careless implementation of random attacks is still horrible design. That's just taking "you're not in control" and beating the player over the head with it repeatedly.

The problem is that Skyrim is not heavily populated to begin with. Instead, the game should have had extra random NPC citizens that may be killed and would be replaced by other random citizens later.

But hey, who am I to argue against "realism" in a game where giants club dragons to death while mammoths are floating in mid air!

I was simply demonstrating the mindset of people Yrkoon is amused by. Many times I've wondered if a dragon was attacking a town somewhere in the Rift while I'm in Solitude or something, and I was concerned for those poor little NPCs who cannot defend themselves. =(

See, now that would be awesome if you had random respawning NPCs. Then you could have some real attacks and some real mayhem without ruining your game world permanently.

You could even have the scenario where you enter a town only to find it has been recently attacked by dragons.

But I don't mean to sound too negative. I do like Skyrim after all. Haven't played it as long as some of you guys though. Only slightly below 200 hours so far.

Luckily I got a mod that makes NPCs level (mostly guards) with you.

Lets just say that the Vampires did not really get away with much when you have ANOWLD for a gate guard.

"My cousin's out fighting dragons and what do I get? Guard duty"
After going mano-a-mano with two vampire's and their thrall, and that traveler.

So a Vampire incursion is still not manly enough for those dudes it seems.

I've not killed Sibbi on any of my characters yet, generally they all just ignore Louis and let the scum rot. But I should probably kill him at least once, just got to decide which character.

It would be nice if you could drag enemies into the ground when you toggle collision off and thus suffocate them.

You know, it's funny. Something called the 'console' is available only on PC.

That reminds me of Thief. You could knock people out and place them in water so they'd drown. What a gem that game was <3

That's not why I dislike it - I just think it's a hell hole. It's run by a scum Jarl, who answers to a scum crime family, who are in control of a scum criminal syndicate. It's just a scummy city all around.

I find it god damn hilarious when people there THREATEN you.

On my main its just laughable.
But they really push their lock with my honor obsessed Nord.

They REALLY needed an option to clean up the town, just so you can gut Maven like a fish.

Light the entire damned Ratway on fire and then kill the entire Black-Briar family Mythic Dawn style (i.e. rush them with dozens of assassins). That should teach them that cheaters never prosper.

That's two separate issues.

Ever consider named NPCs are to *supposed* to die because, you know, vampire attacks are a growing menace?  That's not "careless implementation of random attacks," that is story exposition.

That's good game design.

What would be bad game design is to cater to the existing poor game mechanic of not having random unnamed citizens which can serve as cannon fodder for the alleged world threatening dragons and vampires by never having anyone die.  If the Nazeems, Belathors, and Brenuins could all be assurred of living their lives in relative saftey, then there is no point for the DB to do either of the main quests.

Actually the simplest solution would be:

Poison them off, and frame the daughter.
Then kill her off for being a murderer.

With Maven dead, "find" a note and payment from the TG implicating them in the plot, then wipe them out.
With Maven and the TG dead, corruption will take a severe hit.

Then replace Lalia Derp-Giver with someone half way competent, and focus on turning Riften back into a trade hub.
I mean look at it, its sitting in a prime place for fishing, mining, foretry, and trade down into Cyrodil and Morrowind.

Yo save some time and just call it Chicago or DC.

Oh god I hated that crap. I wanted to kill Mercer and Maven for the down talk they gave me. Well least I get the former but after the fact.

On a sidenote I wish they will in a future DLC allow a new town or such you can be the Yarl of.
