I wish there could have been names for different buildings/sections in the Soul Cairn, to give a better point of reference on the map. In my first playthrough, I'm sure I probably missed half of it. The only reason I got as much done as I did was because I was looking for Arvak's skull. Then I found out the hard way that by summoning him in Tamriel, it replaced Shadowmere. Waa.

You can regain shadowmere just go to where she/he last was.  Also that ghost horse sucks.

I see. Good thing to know. I don't want to lose my dreadsteed... I mean Shadowmere.

I prefer Arvak to Shadowmere.

Mostly because I dont feel like joining a group of murderous insane cultists in most games.
Plus he can level the conjuration skill.

Actually, I tried that. The last place I'd been before that was in front of Castle Volkihar, and he wasn't there. Or anywhere that I had been, including outside the DB. Maybe my game glitched (wouldn't surprise me), but he was never seen again. There's really not much point to summoning him in Tamriel, unless you don't already have a horse.

Edit: You know...that was the same playthrough where Belrand and Jenassa went missing on their walks home. I bet there is a bug in my saved game that demands souls.

I don't see what's wrong with Arvak. If I'm right, you can use him as a cushion when you want to jump off a great height and don't have Become Ethereal, or it's on cooldown or if you don't want to use it for whatever reason.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Arvak. "He's such a good boy!" I've caught Serana killing him, though. OK, maybe it was coincidental, but she smacked him on the butt right (or moved her hands in just the right way) when his time ran out, that it looked like she was taking him out.

I always join the DB. Always. If I had to choose - Arvak or Shadowmere - I'd choose Shadowmere. We've just had so many good times together.

I remember people saying that they used Shadowmere as a mobile container back in Oblivion. When Shadowmere dies in Oblivion, she gets resurrected a short time later. Which, of course, doesn't prevent you from dumping loot on her corpse.

In case you're confused, Shadowmere is referred to as female in Oblivion.

^ Yeah, and male by Astrid in Skyrim. I know. We've had this discussion many times in this thread. I think the last time, some people were banned. Image IPB

Edit: I didn't join the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion, so my only point of reference for Shadowmere is as male.

I am a little ashamed to admit that my halo-sporting, Crusader Armor-wearing paragon wasn't willing to walk the Pilgrim's Path again, lest she be undeserving of wearing it.

Meh... I would choose the Morag Tong above the Dark Brotherhood anytime. I simply have no motivation to join a bunch of cultist who literally worship nothing ^_^

I may use Arvak with my Archmage, but prefer Shadowmere with warriors. And I utilize the console to gain the Daedric steed after placing most of the DB into the ground; my own DM reward as it were.

Perhaps Astrid doesn't know the difference!

Or Shadowmere is a daedra and more intelligent than he lets on...

^ Or perhaps it didn't occur to her to look. I'm hoping that's the case. I'd like to give her a little credit somewhere, despite her complete and utter failings in everything else.

Eh I only joined him once.

Much more fun to simply slaughter them like animals, and decapitate the organization for good.
Minus Cicero, and Babette running around.

She is the only one who can never die it seems.
"YOU CANT KILL A KID ITS EVIL!"
No more evil the tearing people's souls out, decapitating whole villages, and all the other **** you can get up to.

Like that kid in Riverwood.
Yah kid I get on the bad side of demi-gods, Daedra, assassins, and evil Goosesteeping elves every day, you really scare me.

Moralnuts are just insane like that. Not to mention that, given where Bethesda is located, they'd have the ground sued from under them if such a thing were allowed.

That's what mods are for. ;)

Moral Guardians ****** me off.

"BAN THIS, BURN THAT, HATE THEM, FEAR THOSE!"
I want to make a game so offensive that it makes their head explode.

One day.,...one day.

If you're not suffering the console version, you can download the Killable Children mod to eliminate those brats that annoy you.

It does feel good to be part of the PC gaming master race.

Except when Bethesda borks its releases.

I wonder how many of those who declared they were going to boycott the PC release of Dawnguard actually did.

I never said I would boycott it, but I haven't bought it yet. Waiting to see if there'll be a patch in the coming months. I likely won't get heavy into the game until winter so I'm in no hurry.

So anyone read that "Bioware: How to rip off players and lose franchises" thing?
I just found it endlessly amusing. You know I am very glad I support Bethesda over them.
Yes Dawnguard was 20 bucks, but they keep adding little things to the game, support modding, dont have terrible DRM, and actually support their fans.Plus I can play my game offline which is always a plus.

Oh!  I have a question.  I'm still on my first playthrough of Dawnguard, and doing it with a "good" character who's not associating himself with the Dark Brotherhood.  Question:  does Babette get the bloodshot eyes that other vampires get when you've installed Dawnguard?

Damn I dont know.

My only character who left them alive is in the Soul Cairn.
I can load an old save.

No.
