[Alduin looks up]
Vault Boy: They said you might be up here--
Alduin: --Shhhhh! Give me your hand. Now close your eyes, go on. Step up. Hold on to my horns. Keep your eyes closed, don't peek.
Vault Boy: I'm not.
Alduin: Do you trust me?
Vault Boy: I trust you.
Alduin: Alright, open your eyes.
Vault Boy: I'm flying! Alduin!

Vault Boy: OH, SH----

The Dunmer from ES and the Drow from D&D are nothing alike apart from their dark skin. You might like the Dark Elves in Skyrim.RinpocheSchnozberry wrote...
I never play dunmer, due to having played over 9000 dark elves in my AD&D days.... I might have to take some medicine for my allergy and give 'er a shot.

All I can say is don't feel any pressure to do the main quest - explore, get involved in some side quests, factions, etc. and try walking around instead of using fast travel.
also, since the world is so huge, a single playthrough can last a really long time, so you might decide to install some mods at some point during your first playthrough.
there are around 30,000 or 40,000 mods for Oblviion, and some of them are really amazing, greatly improve the game
Well since I'm one that likes to explore areas in games like this so the walking around won't be a problem at all.<LOL>
The thing for which I'm most concerned about is my character the first time through the game. Usually I just play a warrior or thief and either dual wield or sword and shield. But from what I've seen on the video's on you tube you can use any weapons as well as for magic and thieveing abilities.
What would be a good first time PC to run which will give me the best bang in the game? Where I will be able to survive most of the battles and also unlock most of the chests doors etc.
BTW I was just checking out the Website and looking over the DLC's for which are available on the site. Are they worth the money or are there some that aren't?
I agree with Naughty. Be in no hurry to do the main quest. Maybe do the first couple of quests to give you "more access to certain realms", but that is my suggestion. Join a guild(s), do the many, many, many side quests, level and loot to advance your character. Cities, towns and dungeons/caves are only accessible by finding them in person unless it is pretagged for fast travel. It seems like you love exploring...you are then in for a treat. Dungeons/caves will seem familiar but the layout is always different and the amount of different loot can be a big motivator.
As for your character, I would suggest being a combination warrior-mage, a Battlemage. My suggestion would to pick Battlemage as your class and The Mage as your birthsign....it'll give bonus in magicka. When you level, you can increase your skills for Security (unlocking chests) as well as everything else as you make adjustments. Many things are improved through enchanted items like rings or amulets you wear that'll give a statistical bonus to your attributes. Also weapons, robes and armor can be enchanted, found that way by default or enchanted by you personally.
Lockpicks can be hard to find at early levels, but don't be discouraged. You can also have staffs or spells that open locks. And not all chests have locks.
If youre playing an unmodded version, understand the game is dated and flaws do exist....but if you're like me, you'll find those flaws (like outdated but still solid graphics, loading textures outdoors) to be barely noticeable as you're immersed in a wide open world of deep, rich fantasy.
I could give you further hints....don't wanna spoil too much. What made you check out The Elder Scrolls?

I concur. Morrowind has aged very well. The new Dumner looks good but I'll never play one. I just kill 'em.

Reason they sounded different in oblivion was because of them being in the heart of the empire, so they had to adjust themslves to the Cyrodiilian way of life. As it should be.
You don't justify that kind of wussification. Bethesda was likely pressured to cut corners somewhere. They had intended to keep the gruff voice somehow.
I meant them living there for generations.... not in the sicenario where "Oh we just moved here and are forced to speak your accent". The accent and lifestyle can shape a person physically and personably through a long period of time... descendants being more susceptible.
And i like the pic with the vault boy and dragon. cute.

You don't get it, do you? It doesn't matter how long they lived in Cyrodiil, and frankly only a few NPCs told you how long they lived in Cyrodiil. A lore explanation like adapting themselves to Cyrodiil is lame. As I asked, how can you explain Oblivion's male elves sounding like wussies while every female now sounds like the dark elf from Morrowind? You simply don't explain it because you're not going to make much sense.

Limited voice actors is the only real life excuse. Whether you accept a lore excuse is solely up to you, don't expect others to feel the same.monkeycamoran wrote...

Now a couple of things for which I've learned about the game that I don't care for is 1. the things for which you've got equipped still count towrads the amount your allowed to carry, unlike other games I've played. The other thing is there isn't a key for highlighting interactive objects like barrels and such which makes the game go slower because you've got to check out every thing.
Now currently I have not added any mods and only the Knights of Nine and Shivering Isles DLCs as they came with the game. Currently not sure where to even sure where to find mods for the game. The descriptions on the DLCs don't look to bad thouh.
Now I've got a couple of scrolls any way to copy them permanetly to the rest of my spells?
As for the graphics being dated that might be true but will have to admit that they do still look good.
As for why Elder Scrolls why not? I like RPG games like BG; NWN, TW, DA and had been thinking of giving it a try. And when I seen the ES IV 5th anniv for $30 bucks and I wanted something new to play figured why not go for it.<LOL>

Well, Oblivion is nothing like any of the games you mentioned. They have next to nothing in common. Okay, so you create your character in most of them (except TW) and level/develop him. And you do quests, interact with NPCs and sometimes with the surroundings and kill stuff.
But other then that... these games alre really very different. Of course there are advantages to ES open world approach as well. I guess you'll see for yourself soon enough.
Though I can't stop thinking that maybe Skyrim would have been a better choice to get a taste of the ES series, as it seems it will be somewhat more story-centric and cohesive then it's predecessors.

Seriously, if you hate the voices of the DUnmer that much, mute it. The subtitles are there anyways, so I don't see what the problem is. If you really need an explanation as far as lore goes, what Therefore said is as good as you're going to get.
Deal with it.

I'm running around 200 mods on my Steam install - some of the mods slow down your load times, so it helps if you have an SSD.
Here are some of the mods that I found to be essential (I would not go back to playing Oblivion without these)
Best place to get help with mods and find suggestions: Bethsoft Official Mods Forum: http://forums.bethso...-oblivion-mods/
All listed mods can be found on the Bethsoft forum or on one of the following:
TES Alliance http://tesalliance.o...-oblivion-mods/
TES Nexus: The Elder Scrolls Nexus - Oblivion mods and community
The Engineering Guild: http://www.theengine...php?do=cat&id=2
