BTW - made it all the way to dry land outside of Riftin when I discovered Harrold is NOT considered a person of note; reload and kill the Light Armor merchant instead.

You got that quest in Riften? I swear, that quest is always, always, always in Solitude for me.

The temple priests are also not people of note. Image IPB

Considering that Riften, the wretched hive of scum and villainy in Skyrim, has a temple devoted to the goddess of love, it's not that surprising that not many townsfolk consider them to be notable.

I used to walk around with a sweetroll thinking it would trigger some kind of quest.

That just brings me back to the Agent of Mara / Book of Love quest line, where you have to deliver the Warmth of Mara to 20 people in Riften...

...and Wujeeta says, "I wouldn't even clean my tail with that trash."

@Blaidefiste, I did that stuff in the beginning, too. Image IPB

Even though that temple woman told me not to bother with the obviously apathetic people, I gave one of those fliers to Maven Black-Briar. She was not very impressed.

I've always been on the receiving end of that sort of thing. .

Felt incredibly refreshing being the one doing the damage. The Black-Briars were the best. Favorite quest in Skyrim!

Passing out the flyers was the best part of that quest for me, as all of the Black-Briar household I could find received a copy.

The Book of Love quest line was actually pretty amusing - I simultaneously facepalmed and laughed when Calcino finally spoke to his object of adoration. I think there was some slightly uncomfortable cringing involved too.

Man, I am CTD-ing like nobody's business now. I've checked mod load order, and just about everything else I can think of. Crashes seem to happen whenever I approach, pass through doors, or quick travel in or around open cities like Falkreath or Riverwood.

I noticed the problem first when I tried quick travelling to Riverwood several times, and could not enter the city without crashing. So, I started in Riften and was able to actually walk all the way to Riverwood without a single CTD, made it to the Riverwood Trader, sold my crap, left through the door and CTD'd. Head desk.

I can travel to gated cities with no problem, but open cities are my bane.

I love that quest.  The Bosmer are the most receptive, funnily enough.

You guys seem to report CTDs and other nasty business like that an awful lot... I don't think I'll ever purchase the PC version of the game. Nothing pisses me off more than a game that doesn't run correctly at least 90% of the time (something I never have to worry about with console games, which I prefer).

^you mean Xbox 360. Because in terms of Skyrim, the platform with the most tech issues, by far, is PS3.

Me though, I'll take the PC version of any game based on mouse and keyboard use alone. But also Better graphics and quicker (almost non-existant) load times on area transitions. oh and Mods.

Yeah, agreed. I use to be a hardcore XBOX goon who had an embarassing amount of time in MP lobbies. I played Skyrim on 360 for 400 hours, and then turned around and purchased off Steam for PC. The PC game is so much better I can't even really begin to tell anyone. It just has to be experienced to see the difference. Setting aside the radical improvement in performance from things like load times to graphics, the mods alone make the experience so much more magnificent, that I can't even think about going back to my XBOX game to even play Dawnguard for that character.

My CTDs are almost certainly a self-inflicted wound, most likely the result of poor mod management. I'm only reporting here in the (very unlikely) event it might be a widespread issue I had not heard about. I'll simply remove the suspected mods and re-load.

I really dislike mouse and keyboard controls - I just feel far more comfortable with a gamepad, which a lot of PC games seem to lack support for without having to purchase and set up third-party software.

I will likely never give up console gaming - it's simply where I belong. PC gaming is... there for games I want to play that unfortunately aren't out on consoles, or would be more difficult to acquire a console version for (e.g. KOTOR).

Well, part of the problem was I had about 20 residual files on my system from mods I had long ago deleted or unsubscribed to. Also there was a couple of instances of mods being activated but not subscribed to. Didn't even know that was possible, but there it is.

Seems to have done the trick!

You know that you you can use your 360 controller on PC, right?  Bethesda supports the XBOX 360 controller for all their games.  Just enable it in options.  But, I warn you, you will never go back once you start down that road! Image IPB

I use the 360 controller on all games that allow it - but I'm really not keen on paying $80 for a game and DLC I already own. I'm not a big fan of mods, either... except for DA:O, which has a pretty impressive selection of mods that pretty much perfect the game.

Skyrim's mods are breathtaking. Not trying to beat a dead horse here, just saying the game is so much richer with things like Dovahkiin Hideout, Battlefields of Skyrim, Weapon Variants Expansion, or More NPCs in the Wild that my merely telling you about it, says nothing really. You could spend $80 a helluva lot worse is all I'll say.

My story: I used to be a hardcore console, anti-PC gamer, thinking PC nerds, elitist, obtuse, and general all around pains in the ass that can never be pleased. I was of the opinion that gaming on a PC was too troublesome, and generally it didn't make enough of a difference in gameplay and presentation to take on the work. I, of course, would still used my PC for my old early 2000s and 1990s games, but that's about it.

Having purchased and played Skyrim, FO3 and New Vegas on PC consistently since about April, and taken advantage of all they have to offer through the Steam Workshop, and now Nexus, and experienced the difference for myself...well...I have since dramatically revised my prior position.

Any game with a decent modding community extends the life of that game so much. That alone is a solid reason for people to get into PC gaming.

I'd take them anyday then have to live without the advantages of a PC game.

Well, its common knowledge that Xbox 360 got all the love in skyrim. The UI is designed specificially for xbox controllers and TV sets, and of course, we've got the DLC exclusivity thing..

But all that being said, I'll still take the PC version of the game. The Eye candy tastes better.  And my version, at least, is as stable and stable gets.  It hasn't CTD'ed on me since patch 1.3

Have you guys met my friend Greengoron? You all sound like you think you'll change his mind! Image IPB

I'm with him, though. The argument is kind of moot with me as well. I was a PC gamer for years, and I went the other way. I'm old, and I no longer care to worry about system requirements or mods. And I sit in front of a PC all day long at work. I'd rather let my Network Admin worry about my system specs there, while I sit in front of a 55" LED TV, with 240 refresh rate, gaming without a care in the world. If you haven't seen Skyrim on one of those, I think you might be surprised.

Guys if he wants to play on the 360 let him, for one its not your concern and two its all about his comfort level. If you don't like it then...

Thats just too damn bad. This crap here and the self superiority alot of the PC games here have, makes me not even want to touch my PC for gaming anymore, its like being at a racism rally honestly.
