I'm not sure I'd compare it to Horse Armor - Horse Armor was that and nothing else. Hearthfire seems to be giving quite a bit more than that, and probably some hidden bonuses knowing Bethesda.

Understandable though that PC players are unimpressed - mods can probably do everything Hearthfire does and more. It would be perfectly logical to skip the PC version of this, especially since it won't come out until a month later anyway.

Me? I'll be out $5 on September 4th. :P

I'm not gonna lie, I'm excited about Hearthfire. Although I'll pass on the kids. (Umm, my Dovahkiin is too busy...yeah, that's it).

I wonder if I can just domesticate some wild animals as pets? Posted Image

Pets might be safer. I can't imagine my Moon-Born assassin or my Volkihar mage being an appropriate parent to a child; how would a child turn out after being raised by a Sithis worshipping assassin, or by an immortal follower of the Tribunal...

Exactly. If Babette can have her own spider, surely my Dragonborn could have her own...slaughterfish in a pond, or pet Sabre Cat (or a mammoth!). Right?

Well... you can have some insects in jars! Who needs a Sabre Cat if he can have a bee in a jar?

^ It would be nice to have somewhere specific for all those jars!

Most of the time, I have to toss those on the floor, or in a dresser, or chest, or something, because there's nowhere else to put them. Then I feel bad about piling tons of armor and crap on them. Because, you know...that glass might break.

I have read that you can get pets for your children, or at least that's what this article claims.

Getting to mount a mudcrab for only $5? Thats much cheaper than what the Blooming Rose charges.

Well... that was odd.

A dragon shows up.
Then flies away after a single pass.

That was...weird.

I'm having the opposite happen in my new playthrough. Dragons are landing right away...almost right on top of us. Everything will be fine, then suddenly you hear wings flapping, then stagger, then BLAMco Mac & Cheese! Then you get doused with flames or frost (or a chomp, from right behind you). No warning.

It's really kind of scary, and I'm a little ashamed to admit that I've jumped more than once already from it. Posted Image

The new DLC is not quite what I was expecting.

Can you force your children to work in the nearest mine to bring back ore?

I would of definitely liked to see that magic DLC I was hoping for but I'm not tripping. This is just some awesome extra content that'll probably buy (especially if they add Altmer Children and Male spouses). Five dollars is like is like 2 candy bars so....

There was a dialogue option for making them do chores, so perhaps you actually can get the little tykes to do some real work instead of lounging around all the time like a certain Jarl's three little brats do.

Exactly. Skyrim is a harsh land and the Dragonborn isn't running a charity. I don't care if the trolls attack you on the way to work everyday son, learn to use an axe.

Well ideally after a day of hard work, my children will be rewarded with time for themselves and maybe a gift every now and then - but not before you replenish our supply of firewood, sonny boy. And tomorrow you're gonna fetch a couple of buckets of milk and make me some Eidar cheese wheels - I need them for a special, err, recipe.

Hmm, I don't think I will get the new DLC then. Doesn't look like something essential for me. And indeed it looked a lot like the Build Your Own House mod. Not that I mean Bethesda is ripping off a mod. But the coincidence is funny. ;)

@renjility: Bethesda thought up the idea prior to the game shipping, but it wasn't ready for addition at the time. At least that's how I remember the discussion in Todd Howard's video presentation. Not to say the person writing the mod didn't have the idea sooner (like from playing Oblivion) but the developer gets dibs on their own game.

Edit: ninja post got me

Edit: added link to video exerpt; only beat greengoron by 2 minutes.

Dawnguard and Hearthfire were both foreshadowed in the Skyrim Game Jam video - it's likely we'll be seeing a lot more material from the video being released as time goes on if these first two DLCs are any indication.

EDIT: Bah! I dun goofed - Endurium beat me to it by a whole 12 minutes. :o

Yeah, like I said, I wasn't suggesting Bethesda has simply copied a mod.:P I won't go that far. Just with the book and the work bench it immediately rang a bell for me, because I recently downloaded the mod. Haven't build anything with it though. I have to chop wood first. And my Nord already has her main residence in Winterhold. Perhaps one of my other characters wants a base in the woods. I don't use houses that much anyway. Except for dumping loot, obviously.

Edit: is there any chance Hearthfire includes seasonal changes? I remember seeing that in the Game Jam video too, and that alone would probably make me reconsider to purchase it.

It would be nice if they had some agency. I wonder if they have their own personalities, like Aventus Aretino.
